Advice Needed...which one Marantz SR5005 or Yamaha RX-A1000?

I'm a brand new member and I am hardly an expert, so that's why I came here to get some much needed forum advice.

I just purchased a Samsung UN46C7000 LED TV which is awesome and I'm thinking ahead toward 3D and I'm looking to purchase a Receiver that will best compliment my system. I currently have a Denon AVR 1908, but need more HDMI ports and 3D capability. I have an older set of JBL surround speakers which are good enough for now. I use my system mostly for movies, sports, along with music, so I do not need a system that's too much for me.

I have 2 options right now and I'm curious to get some much needed expert feedback/comments. I can get both of these units BNIB for basically the same price.

Which should I get and why (based on my needs)?

Yamaha RX-A1000

I have read that the SR 5005 will upconvert any video source to 1080p, while the RX-A1000 will not upconvert 720 and 1080i to 1080p. Is that correct?

Also, does the receiver do the upconverting or the TV?
