Was looking at media player and saw a youtube link form Linus tool tips covering AIOS HD Media Center from Pivos which seems like the realtek 1185 chipset. Any one had experience with them?

I'm going to order this player.

I've been looking at different players for a while now.

I was close to buying the Micca EP600 or the Micca EP350.

The AIOS seems to be those two combined, has the space for a HDD, has the 1185 chipset, Gigabit lan , USB 3, ready for Wireless N, SMB ..... at the same price.

i'll post my thoughts after using it for a couple of weeks.

This has great specs
just saw it today on NCIX canada
if works as presented really opens up field in the under $100 players
for us folks just looking for a player to handle blu-rays
1080P 24HZ with full support of DTSMA and TRUEHD
on fast network
keeping an eye on this one

Where do you see DTSMA? I only see TRUEHD listed.
The player hardware looks to be a standard spec 1185 player, and the interface, if you look closely past the yellow skin, looks very similar to other 1185 based player firmwares.

The big shocker is the price.

you may be right - I thought I had read that in another forum
but in looking thru the manual it only lists DTS-HD
That may just be core - will have to see how pans out
after some reviews get out there

Keep us posted if possible check for DTS-MA support..

Looks like it should support DTS-MA. The first Realtek 1185 player was the AC Ryan PlayON! HD2. Here's what Ganesh (anandtech.com) wrote about it:

Right after hooking up the box, I tried to playback some MKV and M2TS files with DTS-HD MA audio. Bitstreaming of the HD audio worked without a hitch! Like many other media streamers, there is no official support for DTS-HD audio. However, that doesn't prevent the streamer from handling it within the constraints placed by the user's setup and the licensing agreements in place.

From their official forum...

"Can Netflix be added in the future via a firmware update"
All i can say right now is that we are working on it.. although netflix is abit slow when it comes to qualification.

I'd be surprised if Netflix approved them, given as even Syabas, a bigger player, couldn't get it for PopBox.

Well, I just bought one off of amazon. Spec looks good and price is right. I am not too worried about netflix though. Got too many devices hooked up that already has. Should be here in about couple days, will post details.

Those of you getting the box, please report on hd audio and what kind of movie/TV jukebox support it has. Also, if the browser supports Flash in addition to HTML5. I'm guessing no Flash, but maybe it does.

saw it on ncix's forum... TrueHD/ DTS MA, don't think i saw flash for browser. Their forum has a thread about movie sheets view which is kinda cool.. Gonna report back when it's here.

So I plugged the unit in last night and did some very short testing - will have more time on the weekend.... Here's a stream of info

I streamed my backup BD.ISO and DVD.ISO over gigabit and the BD played the movie... no menu support except for 1 movie! Casino Royale!

The DVD did play with menu but it has trouble navigating multi-episode TV programs (Fawlty Towers)

Sound is straight passthrough so if your AV Receiver can decode it you should be fine. It can down mix to some degree too.

The picture quality is a little disappointing (oversharp) and the DVD ISO upscaling is a little rough.

The UI is brutal - and for me, I hate the yellow orange colour - way too bright in a dark media room. No option to change it yet.

I did upgrade the firmware right out of the box before I ran my tests.

It played most of my media - but had trouble with the FLV (Flash) files.

Did not try the browser or online media options

It will not play Apple Lossles Audio files (non DRM)

The IR remote is poorly layed out and sometimes non responsive - you have to be pure line of sight.

For the $89 I paid I'd say it's OKAY and I plan to use it on my boat (12v) with movies on either the internal or external drive.

It could in no way replace the Popcorn C200 (Which I love/hate)

If you're based in Eupore, look into PopBox v8. May address parts you hate about the C200.

i see this model from their websit
can input hdd tray ,Usb3.0 giga Lan ,however the important is the price .very slowly .i buy Micca EP350 ,a good player based 1073 ,i want to buy a new Aios HD player to instead my old player .
The realtek 1185 player for BD iso Guide only support BD1.0 but can play the BD movie .i think webbrose is useless for realtek 1185 .
@tomasch any chance of a detailed review about its capabilities, especially with regards bitstream and downmixing to stereo.
If it is 1185 based it's a good deal for $100. It has Gigabit ethernet and USB 3.0 support- plus they're based out of California so for us US folks if we have a problem return shipping is not an issue. I already got screwed 2x on cheapie 1055 players. Too bad it doesn't have an external SATA port.

I might pick one of these up.
If anyone gets a unit to use and post their thoughts and reviews here that would be great!

So far the RealTek's 1185 gigabit ethernet feature has been the same, worst or only marginally better than 10/100 ethernet on current players that I know of like AC Ryan's Play!On 2 and Xtreamers' Sidewinder 2... Also the sidewinder 2 has some file playback issues...
They told me in an email that DTS-MA bitstreaming only works in BD iso support right now, no .MKV support. They said they would fix this in an upcoming firmware update, but until that happens I don't intend on buying one. I won't buy something that might or might not have a feature.

Am I allowed to post links to other forums? If so, many of your questions might be answered. The OP has put a lot of time into this device.

Argh, I'm new so no posting URL's for me. There also is a wiki, google will get you there since I can't.

Google < Pivos AIOS redflagdeals >. Not sure if this workaround is allowed but the info here is to valuable not to pass along.

I am an ex-SageTV user, thanks to google and my extender flaking out I've started looking elsewhere. I picked up a couple of WDTV -Live Plus but I'm not totally in love yet. The AIOS looks interesting.

This sounds very promising. Looking forward to your reviews!

Here you go... I helped you out... it looks like a Canadian Deals forum (correct me if I got the wrong link)

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/ncix-...nched-1087164/

The thread Looks pretty intensive with various diffrent experience... from doing a quick scan of the thread, OP is stating it supports Blu-Ray ISO with menus and has an interface similar to AC Ryan HD2 and HD2 mini...

Apparently the rumor mill is that the founders of pivos technology group used to worked for a famous media player brand...

Apparently you can flash it with Xtreamer 3.0 firmware?

Why would they want to flash it with Xtreamer firmware?!

http://pivos-aios.wikidot.com/forum/...d#post-1277142

are pivos and xtreamer are one and the same?

Really? I think I might haev to get one. Does it support DTS-MA bitstreaming in a .MKV file with the Xtreamer FW?
I just picked up one of these last week and so far I love it. This is my first media player and I'm wondering what took me so long to get one. Updates seem to come regularly and they seem to be constantly working to improve the product.

My only complaint is the interface, it's rather boring and plain. I'm sure they will get to fixing that as well.

This Xtreamer firmware looks promising, is there a how-to on flashing the AIOS with this? I'm pretty new to all of this stuff so please excuse my ignorance.
