Mee too! Almost seems they have the same features and is very hard to decide. Whichever I can confirm can decode 5.1 AAC to 5.1 LPCM will win.

What I do like about the AIOS is that they support having an open environment for 3rd party firmware development.

does this aios thing have instant skip jump of any sort? (like 10sec, 15sec, 30sec jump forward/reverse) - with the default firmware?

i only see rew/ff and goto mentioned in the manual.
Does this thing play 1080p60 (that's 60 frames per second progressive) video?

It does. You hit the right or left directional keypad to jump forward or back and it will bring up a progress bar to illustrate where you are as you click through. Works quite nicely actually.

I have had mine for a little while now and am super impressed.

UI and Firmware- There are currently three popular options
1. official firmware that now has UI background options
2. semi-official firmware which was built from the official by community members and contains a greatly improved UI as well as other bonus features
3. XtrAios which is 3rd party but popular

I have found UI to be slightly sluggish but have heard that its better when using a Harmony remote.

Fan noise is minimal(My DVR makes far more(which is also not much) so by that standard the Aios does not contribute to ambient noise at all)

File compatibility is fantastic and picture quality is also great. So far it has bit streamed all content I have thrown at it. Bear in mind that my receiver is the next item to be replaced and does not decode anything but core audio tracks.

I don't use it for anything but streaming Video ISO/MKV's so can't really comment on App features.

Support and community is fantastic with a really active forum.

I really don't think that you can do better for your money if your main objective is to stream HD content through your receiver.

Where is the official forum (or community) for this player? And, looks like the price went up to $140 on Amazon (wasn't it $99)?

It's done that before when Amazon ran out of stock. It went up to $140 from another vendor, not Amazon, prior when they ran out. It'll be back down to $99 once they get more in I'm sure.
For $140.00 it isn't worth buying. You are better off buying the Micca EP950 when it comes out in about 1 week, which is pretty much the same to Himedia HD900 for $150.00. You can even buy the popbox v8 for $130.00.
I doubt there will be any disagreement from anyone with you on that. It is just like when the PCH C-200 went out of stock. It went from Amazon's $299 to $399 from another vendor, can't blame them for trying I guess.

Rather than bumping up the price they should order more to get a bigger profit.

Has anyone notice that almost everyone is turning into the Netflix money hungry company? Yeah, our product is selling well...lets increase the price by 200% without any improvements or updates.

I understand companies have to make $$$ and prices will go up, but at least give the customer something out of the price increase. Don't just increase the price!
You can't really blame the manufacturer in this case though, it's the resellers trying to cash in. If someone pays it then I guess it's there own fault for paying too much and not doing their homework. It's just greed, like when a toy becomes a parent must have for their kid and people buy them up and sell it on Ebay for double the cost. Alot of people just suck in general.

I agree that it's not worth anymore than $100. It does what it does well in that it streams just about all content without any hiccups. Streaming content is just about all it does very well so if you are in need of a quick and reliable box for that purpose go for it. I will still end up with a HTPC as time and money allows but this will bridge the gap.
I was going to build a HTPC, but then I'll have to do 3 of them, and I don't have the $$$ for that.

So, I opted for a main media player for the living room (A-300 for now), and now I'm still pondering about what other two players to get for the other two rooms.

I was thinking of buying the AIOS, but when I saw $140.00 on Amazon.com I was like hell no!

So, now I'm waiting for Micca to come out with the new EP950 player, which was supposed to be out by now, but I haven't heard anything.

More then likely if they actually get more to sell through Pivos it will go down to 99 again. NCIX USA has it for 99 right now with free shipping if you want one at the previous price. I think they MIGHT be throwing in the WI FI dongle for it too but not sure.
I have bought things from them before and they arrived fine, though it took a while because of crossing the border and a snafu. I called them about it and they deduced the rush shipping I paid for so it worked out fine except for the extra wait.
Now that they have a USA warehouse and site the shipping should be fine.
OK, it's back at Amazon as of right now direct from Pivos so if you prefer them jump on it before they sell out again.

I am trying to decide between the AIOS and the MED8ER which is twice the price. What is important to me is a video jukebox using Thumbgen. Can the AIOS show DVD covers and the movie info sheets? I have not seen any good videos or screen captures of how browsing movie folders works.

No the AIOS does not have jukebox capabilities at the moment.
well, jst bought a pair of these from amazon for $160 shipped. Plan on taking them through their paces in the next week or so. Going to try stock firmware and the xtraios..
I'm thinking about doing the same thing. My A-300 is acting up, and I'm getting very upset because I am using a lot of my free time to make it work rather than enjoying it, and it cost my wife $260.00

The a-300 is awesome when it works, but lately it has been giving me gray hairs.

I like the WDTV2 as well, but it doesn't play HD sound. I got one for my parents for xmas, and they love it. They mainly love the pandora app lol.

The community is working on movie walls and jukebox type things and they just added a movie wall to the latest semi official firmware R15 so check it out when you get one and see if it does what you want now with a little work. I'm still loving mine and just hope more features like what my Live has get added.
Media Fly was added a while back after I and a few others asked about it.
Need to put my old router back online to pickup my Live too seeing how I ran outa ports with my new gig and wi fi Dlink.

That is pretty crazy that third parties can tinker with it - even if the brand stops development on it that means it can still keep on trucking with community support... similar to patriot's PBO...

Edit- Oh well, it's sold.

well playing with my new toy with custom firmware. Don't know the etiquette here for posting stuff like that but a quick search of the aios wiki will show you lots of info.
First thing I noticed is that the custom firmware does pass dts-ma and tru-hd as well as 24Hz for blu ray rips on my hard drive. Looks great sounds great. Tried the FF and REW buttons to see if it would lock up like my neotv but could not get it to falter, everything continued on its merry way. Off to play with the other one I bought on stock firmware and see how that goes. More to come. If anyone has any specific questions post 'em up and I will do my best to help

I have 2 of the AIOS now and like them both. How would you compare the custom firmware to stock?

Well, so far I HATE THEM BOTH! For the life of me I can't get either one of them to play a blu ray iso with menu's! Trying to watch an episode of Chuck ripped to a full iso and it will only play one episode on the disc. This is with both Xstreamer software and aarons r15 semi official firmware. I have no idea what I am doing wrong so will need to check the wiki and ask...

Read all the posts in this thread and still need some basic questions answered:

#1 will is pass through DTS-MA to A preamp that has DTS-MA decoding thorugh HDMI. All the posts about it do not seem definitive or were posted before the latest firmware updates.

#2 If the answer to #1 is NO, then it looks like you can do it through Xtremer firmware?

#3 if you make Blu-Ray ISO's, can you skip chapters like on the Neo 550? I mainly watch concert videos on Blu Ray so I really want to be able to skip chapters.

Thanks in Advance

I think you'll get more information about this on the pivos forum. I get mine tomorrow but I don't use ISO. I mainly use m2ts and mkv files.

Has anyone discussed the picture quality difference between the Reaktek chip and Sigma chip?

Everything I have read seems to talk about features more than the actual picture quality. I am guessing it's about the same?

That's an excellent question to which I do not know the answer to. However, dbone might know!
