Anyone else picking this up? I'm taking a shot on it with my $20 credit from GOW 3. 3 discs 22 GB for the full HDD install.

I am planning on getting it, for the PC. Hope it delivers but I am keeping my expectations low.

I'm suprised they wasn't a thread on this one yet.

Rage is on my radar...but if it doesn't crack 90% on Metacritc I'll wait until its avaliable for less than $40 and pick it up later.

There are too many other AAA releases out now and being released the next two months.
Definitely picking this one up! I prefer single-player games so I'm not as excited about BF3 or the new COD game. I decided to go with the PS3 version for the single-disk and supposedly higher textures through mandatory 8GB install.
I'll be grabbing it on the PC. Most of the games I'm getting for the foreseeable future I'll be getting on PC. I'm ready for the next Xbox and only picking up exclusives until the next machine is out.

Same here. My gaming backlog is growing and I unless I have a sense the game will be awesome, I will not pre-order and wait for reviews. Not gonna make another Duke Nukem mistake ever again.

Ha! This game is in a different league than Duke Nukem 3D. I don't know why anyone on earth expected more than mediocrity from Duke. It didn't even hit that mark.

Been pre-ordered for awhile now. Really looking forward to this.

Which version are you planning to get? There's been some recent speculation that the PS3 version may be slightly superior, but the difference probably won't be that striking. I decided to go with the PS3 version mainly to have the game on a single blu-ray disc.
various previews say the in-game performance is better on the 360. i'd pick framerate et al over swapping discs.
I've followed this game for a while. Bummer it's coming out right now when it will be overshadowed by so many other AAA games. If it's anywhere near decent I'll pick it up for cheap in a few months.

I think those previews are based on older builds. Carmack has gone on record saying that all supported platforms would have the same framerate. Hopefully this will hold true.

they're aiming for 60 fps. but how you maintain that matters (whether vsync is enabled, whether or not you have antialiasing, the quality of the textures, etc.).

we'll have to wait for the reviews to see. but right now, it's PC > 360 > PS3 in terms of purely game performance.

here from a month-old article from the GamesRadar preview:
http://www.gamesradar.com/rage-five-...-hours/?page=2
"Bit of an unfortunate one, this, but I felt the need to point it out. Obviously right now the PC version of Rage is a visual stunner. And the 360 version isn't far behind. It loses a bit of the crisp, sharp detail and a little of the richness of the PC version (at least on the set-up we had in the room. Your mileage may vary), but unless you're running the two side-by-side, it's nothing you're going to notice. And unless you're very rich and a bit mad, you're not going to be running them side-by-side. The PS3 version though, which is the one I played, was a bit rough. The game ran smoothly, and was a rollicking old good time, but was plagued with texture pop-in on a near-constant basis."

"Obviously this was unfinished preview code I was playing, and is currently being bug-checked before the finalised version is sent, so things may well be fine by the time Rage releases in October. But when you're waiting a second or two for environmental textures to properly load in their full detail almost every time your turn around in an FPS, it does become distracting. Particularly when you can see two other versions running right next to you with no comparable problems. Maybe it's to do with Blu-ray's notoriously slow data streaming having trouble with the new mega-texture technology that makes Rage so beautiful. Either way though, it seems it's an issue that id are aware of, and are hopefully fixing. Because in all other respects, Rage is currently one of this year's most exciting prospects."

Carmack is on record in many interviews stating his preference for the PC and 360 versions.

I have this pre-ordered, for PC of course.

Pre-ordered the 360 version because the majority of my friends on there are planning to get it so I figured I can do more co-op then the PS3 or PC.

Cool. I decided to change my order back to 360 version as well, since I have plenty of space to install the game and I'm still a bit unsure about what the performance on the PS3 will look like.

Are you sure? I know he likes the 360 better because it is easier to develop for -- but early on in development, he said that textures would be better on the PS3 version of Rage. Only recently has he recanted and stated that textures would be the same across all both platforms.

you're pulling from a 3-year old article.

all the recent articles have been about trying to get the PS3 version up to 60 fps and how to fix the streaming problem.
I'm curious how the armor works in the game. For example, the pre-order bonus items...do they provide any benefits aside from cosmetics? I'm hoping you can find and equip different armor types which offer different bonuses and stat-boosts.
onlysublime, you are cherry picking previews. Pop-in is a function of streaming bandwidth. The final code has all 8GB of textures installed to the HD for the PS3 and the 360 version comes with some insert that asks for the user to install the game for the best experience. So unless you have the space, running from the 360 DVD is going to be the worst version by far (id has already stated that).

The real difference will be how often the dynamic resolution kicks in to maintain 60fps and no one knows yet.
Actually the worst version by far would be the PS3 version if you don't have the space...you wouldn't be able to play it at all!
However rage turns out, kudos to them for pushing 60fps. It should be industry standard.
I'm honestly considering pre-ordering this as I just picked up $20 in Best Buy Reward Zone certificates.

I already pre-ordered Gears of War 3 and Best Buy's 5 game $100 - pre-order bonus is tempting.

I'll probably get Arkham City, Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3.

I want to see/read some Rage reviews before pre-ordering.

My 360 copy of Rage shipped from Amazon today, and I've barely made a dent in Gears 3!

I've always been a fan of id shooters, Doom 3 is one of my all-time favorites.

I'm in the same boat! I'm also planning on grabbing God of War Origins on sale from BB today

I'm just hoping I can finish Gears by the time Uncharted 3 comes out next month. I have a feeling Rage will keep me busy for at least 12-15 hours.

EGM had the exclusive first review.

9.5

http://www.egmnow.com/articles/egm-review-rage/

"...a polished campaign filled with so many “holy s***” moments..."

SUMMARY: All things considered, Rage is one hell of an experience. It would be easy to knock this game for some of the elements it lacks, but what is here in is easily on par with some of the best titles in the genre. If you’re a fan of FPS gaming and the kids at id, you won’t be sorry you picked this one up.

Ive been sleeping on rage. Maybe I should wake up.

Cool.....but I need more reviews....I'm going to wait on the pre-order.

This month is way too congested with appealing games.

I guess in your book an 8.5 is bad...
