I'm assuming if I use the three prong I will be eliminating the ground and that the two prong supplied power cord is ground to neutral. Of course, my whole house is grounded to neutral so I'm not sure...any thoughts? Anyone know where I can get a 10' two pronged pc type power cord?

Read the fine print along both power cords. If your 10' cord is the same wire gauge or larger, I'm sure you're fine.

the length is due to a "UL listing" that states that power cords only be a certain length . so I can only say you can use the PC cord if the cord is a larger diameter meaning a larger gauge wire for safety sake . I have used PC cords in my Home Theater, swapped out for my amps power cords, which draw way more power than a Display does . I have even made my own power cords due to a needed long run from my power conditioner to my wall outlet & I used a really large gauge cable with hospital style plug ends.

Thanks guys, it's actually much thicker than the stock cord. What about the grounding bit?

that's not a concern as the Display IEC socket does not have a third prong soo it's not gonna be hooked up anyway

That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure. Thanks!!

Thicker? Make sure it's not just the jacket. A PC doesn't take much juice. It's prolly one a yer ol' subwoofer cords. Man, we got a dearth of usable smilies in this place.

My PC has a 1000 watt power supply
I haven't had that happen, although I soley use HDMI1...also don't remember reading about anyone else having the problem either. My best guess would be that the source device and the TV didn't do the HDCP handshake for some reason, so the set shut down the digital input, but don't know why it would shut down all three inputs. Did they all come from the same device?

Sorry.....WAY late with this.

My PC takes more power the most things in my house.

14AWG vs. 18AWG

Good point though.

Okay, so my initial impressions (I'm not a reviewer so just some quick hits):

I was using a 42" Panasonic Plasma for normal/daytime viewing and an Epson 8100 on a 92" HP screen for Football Sunday's and night time viewing.

What I like:

One display versus two with close to the same viewing area of the 92" screen. Sure, it's a little smaller, but it's 80" all the time. The size advantage over the 42" plasma makes up for it.

Nice picture. I'm using Rage's settings which I will likely tweak to my own liking when I have the time, but overall they're not too bad. I may actually consider having it pro calibrated in the spring.

Very slight clouding with the BL up to max, turn it down two ticks and there's none.

No flashlighting

No dead/stuck pixels (so far)

Film mode on some things, but mostly not needed. It's not bad with Animated movies

1080 sources look Great!

Hockey wasn't bad. I think I may have seen a tad of DSE, but I couldn't tell. It certainly wasn't the DSE I saw on the 70" sets in BB. Motion was fine for me. I did see the puck trailing a little, but I was fiddling with the settings so much, I'm not sure what I had the motion set to for the bit of hockey I watched.

Colors really pop compared to my other two displays, and the black levels are certainly better than what I'm used to.

Menu system is easy enough...no real difficulties or surprises

I haven't noticed any judder with all enhancements off

What I don't Like

Nothing really.

It's not the leaps and bounds above what I was using but it's definitely an improvement, and the convenience of one display makes it all the better.

I wish the power cord was longer

SD sources aren't as bad as I had expected, but that could be because I'm used to seeing them on a large screen. My kids watch some channels that we don't have in HD yet. Personally, I don't watch anything in SD.

So far, overall, very happy. No buyer's remorse.

i mine as well jump in here for a brief review as well. some of you know that i have bought the sharp elite before this set, but i had issues and therefore know longer have it. i'm not going to compare the two for obvious reasons as we all know it will be an apple/oranges comparison. likes- size size size very dominant and immersive for sports/movie watching. what- is that it for likes? well i came from a ferrari to a very well rounded sedan. minor clouding left portion of the screen-can be tweaked w/ backlight. tried rages settings-way off on red it pushes it towards magenta for some reason. dse- very very minimal only see it under certain conditions.white uniformity is very good, no corner vignetting. this set is a keeper as it does everything i want it to well, and out of all of the sets i have had and tried(believe me it was many) this set has the least amount of issues.

This was really my primary reason for going with this set. My original plan was to upgrade my 42" set with something in the 60" to 65" (plasmas and lcds) range and still use the projector for sports, gaming and movies. Unfortunately, every set seemed to have it's issues. Both Panasonic and Samsung had their own respective issues with this year's plasma offerings. And most of the smaller LCD sets seem to be plagued with clouding, and flashlighting. This was the only set I read about with a majority of the owners being relatively happy. It seems there are some issues, but nothing inherently wrong...one offs for the most part. The closest thing to endemic has been the lip syc issues some have reported, but I haven't noticed any myself yet.

I really never had this hard of a time buying a component before. Usually, I'm quickly able to whittle my choices down to two or three items and make my selection. This one took me months though, and it wasn't until I popped into this forum and saw that most of the owners are pretty happy that I made my final decision.

Hmmmm....
This thread is amazing in the fact of all the Happy Campers , go to any other Display thread , it's mostly bitching , whining & why can't the MFG'er fix this ...
Damn I'm going on a serious money saving budget .. So I can add this to my HT sooner than later !

I am thinking the same, but am first waiting to see if the 90" comes out this summer. If not, I must directly compare the 80le844u with the 80le632u, then make a choice. I will then give my 70le733u to the kids and take home the "winner" of those three. My problem is patience. I'm not getting any younger and I want the big set now, but I am not going to buy another makeshift set. Whichever one I get this summer is going to have to last a while.

It is nice to see a thread with people generally happy. I think the Panny VT30 people would be right in there on the happiness scale since they got the fluctuating brightness issue fixed a few months ago.

You know, I thought about re-wording that statement, but hey, it is what it is...why do you think I bought an 80" tv?
I stick it in, & the TV automatically switches to the USB menu.
BUT, when I try to select any of the options, it says:

"USB memory stick is disconnected. Please check the connection."

What the eff?

I tried unplugging and replugging each of the HDMI connectors, turning off and unplugging each of those sources for 15 seconds, and turning the TV off and unplugging it for 15 seconds. Nothing worked. I went through the manual's trouble shooting guide (the only thing that seemed to be a possibility was the picture off, but that wouldn't have allowed display of component video, which was working correctly -- I tried anyway, no change). I called Sharp, but their tech support line was closed. So, I unplugged the TV for about 45 minutes. When I plugged it back in, everything was fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any insights?

I hate intermittent problems.

Hmmmmm! very interesting. The new prices have leaked but the 80" 632 again does not appear. I think this adds more ammunition to the idea that the 632 will be phased out and not produced once the 844 is released. If so, I'm not sure what to do, the price difference between the 632 and 844 is significant. Get the 632 now or wait and hope it's still available if I decide the 844's not worth the price bump?

Those are the reasons I sold my 70 incher and got the 80" 632 almost 2 weeks ago (best upgrade/upsize money I ever spent).

For me I decided I didnt care about the active 3D of the 844, the 240hz was the only thing I saw as a real benifit (perhaps),,,,, but then again, my 80" 632 does not suffer from motion blur enough to even be an issue.

I did my pro and con list (844 vs 632) and in the end the current 80 incher won.

HD cable look's amazing on my 80 incher,,,,, and with BluRay the picture is totaly sick, off the hook !!!!!!!

Cheers

aren't the prices on that list from hdguru for new televisions released this year? if that's the case, the 80" 632 wouldn't be on there.

It's for Sharp's 2012 line-up. The 632 line would be the 640 line in 2012. So if Sharp wanted to keep producing a 80" non 3D 120hz TV, they would have a 80" 640 on there.

My best guess is that a 645 model later in the year will be the replacement to the 632.

How much is everyone paying for this tv? I called up a local store and they told 4200 cash, no tax. Is that a good deal?

I reported the same thing a while back.

I have a couple of old sticks that work but the two new ones I have (both same model) do what you described.
