I am at 95% wife approval for getting this set. Just have to sell a few more things around the house to appease the money gods.

But I have a question about wall mounts.

I'll need to keep this set between 15-18" off the wall at all times. Is this possible? And can someone recommend a mount that could handle that type of load?

I read earlier about the monoprice mounts that warped a little. I'm willing to spend the extra dough so that this thing is solid.

Installed the tv, Sanus wall mount, custom floating cabinet and stereo this weekend and am really happy with the result. Here's a pic with a buddy in it to show size:



My only complaint so far is in playing COD. Mostly when playing two players. When I put the tv into Game Mode, it reduces the quality and makes it REALLY difficult to see people. It was easier to see people on the 61" tv I had previously. Any suggestions or anyone with experience playing video games?

This is the reason I went with the Sanus XF-228-B1
I have a fireplace mantel that the display has to clear & the Display also needs to be off-center to line up with my recliners
PLUS most important it has to pass the WAF as a condition of buying the 80" anyway
So this Sanus fits all those conditions & has a classy look as well

May I ask where you got the cabinet from?

I still recommend the Sanus VMDD26B which I got from J&R for under 200 bucks (with free shipping) several months ago. Built like a tank and can extend about 25" or so.

Looks good! How far off the floor is the bottom of the set?

Sounds like you need to play with the settings to improve your pq.

I don't think it's available anymore...not from J&R at least.

Just a suggestion: Go to the top of this page, and click on the Monoprice cyberlink. When it loads, look at product ID 6517. I think this will work for many who need articulating wall mounts.

Hi Guys! 1st post from a decade old lurker.

Has anyone measured or found a reference to how bright this 80" Sharp is?

I'm thinking of replacing my 100" diagonal front projection screen with the 90" version when it becomes available and would like to know how many foot-Lamberts I should expect from one of these displays,

contrast 27 bl +1 gamma -2 and a backlight of +2 it's right around 40ftl, this set can get to 70ftl no problem.

No measurements, but I'm going from a pretty darn bright 67" Sammy LCD DLP. I have a good amount of light from windows (massive windows up the stairwell adjacent to the family room). Brightness is not an issue with this set.

I used the same Sanus mount as Billdag based on his recommendation. Works great and less expensive than the other Sanus. I have the front of my TV sitting about 20" away from the wall permanently.

I had a local carpenter build the cabinet for me. With install, staining, etc the total was only $875 and was build with holes exactly where I needed them. Really happy I went this route instead of what I was originally going to use as I wouldn't have been able to put floor standing speakers next to the TV if the cabinet was any less wide. Here's what I was originally going to use which is probably a good solution for others:

That looks a lot like mine now that the doors are added, but is only 90"ish inches wide instead of the 100" wide that I went with. Again, needed the extra size to fit the speakers or else I would have went with a soundbar.

I would guess the bottom of the TV panel is about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. Just a guess.

Anyone actually using a monoprice mount successfully with this beast?

Edit: I should clarify... "off the wall" successfully.

Just tried searching and couldn't find it. He posts too much.

Any way you can copy and paste the setting if you know where they are?

Ryan you are welcome to try my calibrated settings (these were done on a 60LE632 but there are users across all sizes using them with good results)...

You should be able to go into your screen display menu and then to advanced settings. It's listed on page 27/28 of your owners manual.

I also posted.some settings for.movies if you have a light controlled viewing area

I used the Monoprice 6517 and have it about a foot or so off the back wall. It extends out to 30" apparently.
There was no flex in it at all as I built a cabinet around it so I wanted it evenly spaced around each edge. It tilts as well if you need it.

Here is a pic with the cabinet still not finished but you will get the idea.

Yeah, I see that. Too bad. I think it's the end of the line for this model. Noticed that Amazon still has about a dozen left but they're about 60 bucks more with shipping. Still a great bracket, even at that price. List is around 500 or more......
