After setting the backlight correctly, the black level is superb for a non-dimming set. This tells me that he probably was watching it with default settings which, as we all know, look terrible in the home.
CNET, Mr. Pendlebury, does provide a complete list of their calibrated settings via a "Click to see picture settings" link on page 2. The good thing is most settings are actually quite close to Suzook's(Kevin's) for this set and DaGamePimp's for the 60" 632U, and I'd say most of the negativity is purely subjective, but a few of the settings are obviously flawed.
A Red Hue of -5 is the opposite direction of what's needed for natural flesh tones and the +6 Backlight and +2 Gamma are very likely hurting the black level.
While Pendlebury may be a "professional", the overwhelming number of positive opinions here, many by quite knowledgeable owners, make his review moot.

Yeah, no 3D for the 632.
