down load the link --save to computer then you need to unzip it ( use a Unzipper like Bitzipper) THEN load the unzipped file to a USB thumb drive that ONLY has the one file on it . don't put the read only file on the thumb drive if there is one

the name of the file should say exactly BSMK_LE632-732_311.UVP
then follow the manual for directs on how to load on the display ..Remember NOT to Turn the display off @ any time while it's up-dating ...........

EDIT******* the file only has one file on the up-date .............. So not worry !

Well, I do like my Panasonic plasma I have in the bedroom, which is not an overly bright room, and would probably own one instead of the 80LE632U if someone offered one. My familyroom is brighter though, so I might have regrets with that purchase...of a bed wetters POS with washout and mirrored reflections. I do know for. sure I'm totally satisfied with this set when, as you say, viewed from the proper distance.

On another topic, has anyone been able to successfully download the new firmware update - 311U1204061? I can connect to the server and begin the download, but never get beyond about 10% before it aborts.

632 has an updated fw? What does it fix?
No idea, but others are eveidently having problems downloading it as I am over a wi-fi/internet connection. The last update worked fine via the internet and the USB method is a PITA that shouldn't be necessary. Gonna wait and try it again later.

no go for me on the update
The update removes some of the old apps like Blockbuster, beyond that I don't know what else it entails...

Hey guys...thanks to all the contributors here.

I am still deciding between a projector and screen (110") for my new HT in my new basement which is being finished. I see that this TV has gotten mostly good reviews from many here.

My question..is there any competitors to this TV at this size? In either LCD or Plasma? Is this the leader, for now, in 80+"?

Sharp has the market share on 80" & 70" displays as they are the only one in the huge display game ...

Thanks Slappy.

Is this price point here to stay for this set or is tehre something coming down the line that may decrease this set's cost? $3600ish is pretty much where this will remain for a while?

Jason

Probably not worth the time or effort. Went to the Sharp site, and here is the description:

This Firmware Update removes the streaming apps Blockbuster, Alphaline and Napster due to those streaming services no longer being available.

Took me less than 10 minutes for the entire process to download the firmware to a usb stick and upload it to the panel....simple and less clutter on the apps screen...

Seems like they pulled it as my set no longer finds the update

Just use your pc and download it to your desktop then move it to a usb stick via the sharp link above a few posts back, then plug the stick in to the panel, go to usb update and it will go very fast about 2 minutes to take...
that link is a no go. I am not really worried about it

Same here. Quick and easy with the USB. Curious that it has to be FAT formatted though - not FAT32. I tried doing it through the Sharp manual update through the TV's internet. It said my TV was up to date!

That's great!!! I went back in Movie Mode and got mine below 3de. I still have some tweaking to do but the picture is very good.

What an improvement! Did you find that your first meter was defective?

Well I would have to assume so, I had repeatability issues with it (especially on red/magenta) where one day it was one reading and the next day it was different by a decent margin. I had been seeing erratic errors in CalMan and thought it was the software for about a week, now I am fairly convinced it was the meter. I was new to CalMan so having the questionable meter along with learning CalMan after using ColorFacts and HCFR for so long was 'interesting'.

I was able to slightly improve my Red down to dE 1.9 with a couple of ticks to match up luminance and just as before altering Red saturation would mess things up pretty good (on my 60LE632).

Once again thank you for your comments Chad, it most definitely encouraged me to seek a replacement meter. Now I just have to check it against my spectro (i1Pro). Oh and I do want to note that everyone at Spectracal has been AWESOME!

I'll take the negligle loss and agree with the other poster - I don't see the drop off at all on my LCD's at normal viewing distance - but I could barely see anything during the day on the Plasma - especially dark video games and movies in the daytime Plasma is a bed wetters TV BTW with urinated on whites also!

I think you misunderstood me. I am all about LCD. I own 4 Sharp Aquos sets and I love them all. I too owned Plasma and yes the viewing angle dropoff is less but as you stated, the whites totally blow compared to higher end LCD. I had a 50" NEC XR5 Plasma display and the picture was great.....4 years ago. Technology has come a long way in 4 years. I agree with you 100% about the viewing angle issue.....its a non issue to most people.

Hey fellow 80" 632u owners, I'm trying out this new light strip I added to my setup. Its a remote activated LED light strip mounted behind the tv for night viewing. Any thoughts? Its kind of like what Phlllips did on some of their flatscreens (Ambilight)?. The light isnt nearly as bright as the picture makes it seem. I kinda like it.

if you really want to get the full effect and benefit of bias lighting the strip should go all the way around the top and sides of the set. Bottom isnt as big a deal but it cant hurt either. What led strip are you using?
do you have the lights pointing up or to the back of the wall?
[quote=Suzook;21985038]do you have the lights pointing up or to the back of the wall?[quote]
Yes the lights are pointing up. The light itself is just a 12" wireless remote control light strip made by G.E. I found it at walmart of all places. It takes 6 AA batteries. Just an expieriment really.
What is the lowest price that has ever gone for this LCD? The last i heard was 3999 last year.
Now i see its around 4999 everywhere...
I would suggest pointing them to the wall. Might have better results.

I know the Ideal-Lume is much more expensive that what most people buy but they do make a difference in how color is perceived. Here are a couple of good articles for the techies. http://www.cinemaquestinc.com/blb.htm
