(2) I am purposely allowing a slight bit of white crush by raising the contrast over +31 (which seldom, if ever, shows up in actual content) to allow me to lower the Back-light a couple of clicks further while maintaining desired brightness and reducing the black floor level. I'm just experimenting with this now but the Black level is VERY satisfying with this setting.
(3) I'm a tinkerer so I play with my settings quite a bit.
(4) Don't use Cable Programming to judge your settings. I find they are all over the map depending on content/channel/type.

billdag settings:

AV MODE: STANDARD
OPC: Off
Backlight: -5 (WAS -2)
Contrast: +34 (WAS +31)

Thanks for the setting Billdag. I've got to say, I've tried about a dozen different settings and I prefer yours the best. You also mentioned you use Game mode for your HTPC. Do you every stream movies from your HTPC? And would be willing to post your Game mode settings as well? Thanks!

The one at Costco is the newer 633U and is the same dimensions. If you're not in a hurry to get it for this weekend, why not buy it from Costco's online store. It's free shipping, afterall. Remember, the $1,000 instant rebate sale ends this Sunday on 2/3 so you better move on it. Already my local warehouse had none left when I came back in today. YMMV

Thanks for the dimensions.

I'm not in a hurry other than wanting to get the lower price. I would rather not deal with shipping, I'll be paying the same price regardless so I'd rather just pick it up myself. If my local warehouse is out (there are actually two within 10-15 mins of my house.) I will go the shipping route.

The Game Mode Settings I haven't bothered to play much with outside of the backlight/contrast/brightness settings. I would say that the settings I use for Standard should work about the same for game mode (except for the grayed out ones, of course). No I haven't been streaming movies on it so far. I'm using Netflix quite a bit these days. I also have a little WDTV Live Plus media player with about 200 Hi-Def movies on it, most of them converted and shrunk by me using AnyDVD-HD and BDRebuilder.smile.gif

@ska916jedi, dare I suggest you try movie or standard mode for BD smile.gif. I actually heard good feedback about your settings but have not tried them because of the game mode.

What do you suggest for settings then for Movie or Standard?

Chad B and other professional calibrators have warned us that you cannot use ANY POSITIVE SETTINGS under the saturation settings as they will not track properly.
Well, 4 of the cms sat settings he did for me were positive. Same for cms val.

That's not exactly what I said. I was talking about the red value adjustment, not all the others. Even that control can be adjusted with care. It does not automatically ruin the calibration to turn Red value to +3, for example. It just has some odd characteristics you have to be aware of. Best results are obtained calibrating at 75% sat / 75% levels.

Thanks for the clarification Chad.
You may want to update Post # 46 where you stated: "There were no peculiarities or hiccups in the 632U's calibration, other than some slightly finicky CMS adjustments. I found that raising the CMS Saturation adjustment of any color caused color nonlinearities, even with the contrast lowered, so I avoided positive Saturation adjustments."
I assume Sharp made some changes in their initial setups - not unusual for a product that has been around for an astounding 1-1/2 Yrs and is still a current model.smile.gif

Picked my 633 up from Costco a few minutes ago....pretty good deal @$3399 + $99 for the 3yr extended warranty. I'll be leaving town on Sunday so it'll have to wait until the following week to get mounted up and calibrated!eek.gif

Sure enough, thanks for the refresher. I will look into that further.

One of the free once a year services of Best Buy Premier Silver status is a TV Calibration. Should one try it? If not happy one can always set back to factory, right?
Comments please.
Dacbeth, do yourself a favor and get a real calibrator that is local or grab one from this site that tours. Everybody has there own opinion but usually BB people don't know much. I go to a Magnolia in a BB in Chicago(Armitage) and I am usually surprised about how much I know as a casual "nerd" compared to what they know for a job. One guy told me they could no calibrate a Pro-141 as the TV is too old and they don't have the equipment anymore, then the next guy told me it would be no problem then called the calibrator while I was talking to him to make sure... The point is the people are hit and miss. Go independent local if you can.

Does anyone happen to have the code for the DirecTV remote ?

Dose reflections from the glossy black plastic bezel bother anyone?
Will I notice any real difference in the 632 vs 633? Of course I don't even see the 633 on Costco website anymore.
costco often gets a different model #, i suspect the 633 is costco's model # for the 632 anyone know?

Yes in some instances mfgs relabel their model numbers on electronic devices for Costco. This is done mainly so that the mfg retail sales channels doesn't have to price match club warehouse prices. I see it mostly on Panasonic Blu-ray/DVD players and plasma sets. However, in this case the 633U is indeed a Sharp retail model. It succeeds the 632 by adding new features such as the new Smart TV interface and Aquamotion 240. Costco online no longer has stock and therefore removed from their website.

Costco regularly adds / removes the 633 from it's website , rather than show outta stock , So it's a keep check back thing.
I asked the store TV rep/clerk last summer if they were getting in anymore 633's (the Novato Ca. local store stock ) & the guy goes no , not gonna stock them anymore , 2 weeks later they had pallets of them .
I find this a lot on various items @ Costco the local stores never know what's comming on the next Semi , so I take what a clerk even a manager has to say with a grain of salt .
one item they had Seagate 3 TB Hard Drives on a MFGers closeout special price ,even listed a newer model coming out as the reason for the deep discount , 2 months later again pallets of them
post #2993 of 3146
Agreed that it might comeback but it may be a few months -if ever again- will you see that steep of a discount for the 80in. It keeps their "treasure hunt" mystique wink.gif

Nah , I'd be willing to bet it's a matter of weeks , the new 80"ers for 2013 are not to hit until late spring/early summer . They're outta stock now due to the Super Bowl . Next production cycle , they will be back but it will be one last time thou .

It succeeds the 632? Sweet, so where can I buy a 633? Oh yeah, that's right..only at Costco and Sams Club.

AFAIK, the 633 is a warehouse only model. The only difference is the Aquomotion 240, and I am pretty sure that's software, not hardware. I'm not sure what you mean by the "new Smart TV interface" because I went back and forth (I have a Costco and Best Buy one block apart) before I bought a couple weeks ago, and the menus were all the same.

I bought from BB because they price matched the Costco, free delivery, and gave me 2 years no interest financing. The build date on my 632 is Dec 2012, so it doesn't get much newer than that.

" The Smart TV Interface " is a firmware update on the 632 & yes 240 is about the only difference & that is a software Tweak .

Hey I was trying to answer your question but evidently I was mistaken. I thought the 633 had the new Smart Central TV user interface and therefore the successor to the 632. My mistake. It's NOT newer and with only a software motion enhancement. Yep my bad. But hey next year if you have any REAL Sharp questions, go ahead and type it out here. I'll try to care enough to ask the Sharp reps at CES.

But the Costco info was for people here who don't mind the savings at their warehouse, actually have cash to pay for the unit up front and don't want to DICKer with twenty year olds in blue shirts.

And oh, that Onkyo HTIB of yours? Yeah, that's.......sweet.

I was wrong as well there are different levels of Smart Central Interface neither the 633 632 have the top level , Sharp is very vague about them ;-)

The Remotes are different and operate differently. On the 633 remote the 632 Aquos Net button is the AAL button, Aquos Advantage Live. To get Aquos Net on the 633 you must go to apps. On the 632 it is the opposite, to get Aquos Advantage you must use the app button. I know because a 633 remote was in the box with my 632. Consequently, there was no way for me to get Aquos Net because Aquos Net is not available through the App button on the 632. Sharp sent me the correct remote.

Any more people with 33s post there tv settings? Game mode is the best, but has out of sync issues. Standard is what I use (the one posted on the top of this page), but I don't like the motion / choppy lag. I even turned off Film and motion. Game Mode doesn't have the motion problem, it's very smooth like it should be, but the audio is slighty off. >frown.gif
