Official Sharp AQUOS LC-80LE632U Owners Thread - Page 101

Yeah... 70le632 here...

For the last 14 months, I've tried various settings and modes. Pretty much all of them just "don't get there for me'.

I think my issue is Dirty Screen Effect (DSE) and the picture is sometimes ok, sometimes almost unwatchable.

This happens on Blu Ray's, DVD's, OTA and DirecTv.,

It's almost like the picture quality changes based on inbound content.

Have tried pretty much all the settings in this form, and it's not stable.

I'm beginning to think that my set is part of a bad batch (from Sams in Nov '12).

I did reach out to the local repair facility but they said that as long as the set "was performing within specs", there wasn't much they could do.

Too bad for me - I see folks on here withe 632's that appear to be outstanding...

From everything I've read, the 70 is very different than the 80

Ok, it took me awhile, but I finally got around to trying your settings Billdag! We've been using the Suzook settings with a few minor red tweaks for quite some time. I find your settings to 'pop' more and give me some truer colors. Definitely much brighter! My husband prefers these settings now - I lean towards them, but go back and forth. We watch a lot of cable programming, so even though you said not to use that to judge, that's my largest frame of reference.

THANKS!

Consequently, there was no way for me to get Aquos Net because Aquos Net is not available through the App button on the 632. Sharp sent me the correct remote.

That's interesting. I have the same "AAL" button on the remote that came with my 632, so maybe they're all shipping that way, or there was a mixed up batch or something. I'm not sure if I care or not though..since I haven't wanted to check out the built-in browser and I use a Harmony to control everything anyway. I think it makes sense to have Sharp send me the correct remote, so thanks for the tip.

Quick question........

I've been using some setting I found here in USER mode which I really like. Not looking to change them.

I recently started playing Black Ops 2 and was reading about lag so I switched over to GAME mode. It seems to have gotten better. Can I use the same settings I have in USER? Maybe some of you have other setting you can share for GAME mode?

Thanks!
First post to the forum. I received my 80LE632U a week ago and been trying out some of the settings found here (Thanks!). My question may have been asked before, but I haven't seen it, so I apoligize if it's redundant.

Are there fundamental differences between the various modes besides the settings values that the user can adjust? In other words, would 'Standard' and 'Movie' (and all others) be identical if I made all the settings equivalent?

Thanks!

Really love the picture on the set! I went back and forth between a VT50 and this set and don't regret the choice in any way.

I'm not sure what the functional differences are in the modes, but I entered the identical settings into Standard and Movie and there was still a noticeable difference switching back and forth. Standard is brighter, so I was using it during the day and switching to Movie at night.

If the picture changes with different AV modes, even with identical settings, then Sharp must change someting in the background.
Is there any documentation or community knowledge of what Sharp changes with the different modes that remains untweakable by the user?

I'm in the same boat you're in :/

what settings have you tried. With most of the population here generally satisfied, it might be easy to target the reason.

Are you eyes fooling you... I hate to say it that it happens when you concentrate so much on getting the perfect picture, you find flaws that arent even there........

Especially if you're watching Cable! I find it totally inconsistent. Sometimes way too contrasty, sometimes all washed out, sometimes faces greenish, sometimes faces orange, sometimes red, sometimes extremely grainy, sometimes very clean with perfect skin tone and pleasing gamma.................
I gauge my setup by how a modern Blu-Ray looks and they are, for the most part, quite consistent and very close to the picture quality I expect.
Bottom line is you're never going to get your picture perfect for every source because they weren't made that way.
Not sure about the dirty screen effect. Mine is perfect in that regard as hockey broadcasts confirm.
I concur billdag, The pq is greatly affected by source on this tv (as with most any, but a little more so when you have such a large screen)

BUT...... even when I watch blu ray, or in many cases an HDX steam ( I have a 50mbps connection and its hard wired) you still see inconsistencies.

I am less apt to blame the tv and more so the source but no one ever said the sharp was without faults. I had an Elite and it still suffered some of the same
challenges with poor pq but alas its superior video processing helped make up for some of that.
I've only had it a few weeks, but I agree that the PQ varies on input. Nothing that I would call DSE though..and certainly doesn't seem any worse than and other LCD panels. In fact, not trusting my own eyes looking at store displays, before I purchased, I read through this entire thread to see what other people were saying. Then searched and found a couple different users on here that stated the Sharp 80 had little or no DSE, which agreed with that I saw with my own eyes.

I hope you can either figure out what's causing your issue or get it resolved another way.

off-topic: Suzook, I noticed you're also posting in the Vizio 70 inch edge lit thread. Can you compare the PQ between it and the Sharp 80? Although I'd never trade down, the Vizio seems like a bargain at that size.
hey are you following me smile.gif

The 80 inch sharp to me (although its has an ISF) still has the lead in terms of over all pq. The vizio for the money certainly puts up a nice picture.
I know for certain though that when comparing, the 70 looks more like a 40 and that for me is worth the price difference !!!

I had the 80 in our daughters playroom (she is 4) and we recently swapped it out with the 70 and put the sharp in our bedroom.

She even complained about the size...... ;-)

I usually just sleep in the bedroom and watch my 80 in my Home Theater

10818 worked. I had tried these before and none of them worked. I grabbed one of my spare remotes and tried them and got 10818 to work this time. I guess my old remote is on the fritz. Thanks for posting.

New owner of a 80le632u chiming in here... been drooling and humming and hawwing over this display since it was launched.. recently decided to take the plunge on this set, got it at a reasonable price in my area, and here are my impressions so far.. (for anyone still on the fence at this point). First impressions were astounding, having this much screen space in my living room at this seating distance totally draws you right into whatever you are watching, however the WOW factor of the size seemed to dissipate and settle on me way too fast (2 days of viewing) I mean don't get me wrong.. would never dream about going back to my 60" Lg pk550 at this point but for whatever reason when I jumped 2 years ago from 52 to 60 I was just more thrilled for a longer ammount of time than I am now. Having said that and living with a plasma for the last 2 years I have to say that I do miss that sort of more "saturated and rich" color of a plasma, however on the flip side this set seems to be more vibrant. As far as motion is concerned this tv has surprised me so far, I'm still not a fan of interpolated frames and SOE so I have film mode off, and for 90% of content I'd say it is right on par with my previous plasma display. Now the big thing that surprised me the most was that this lcd had far superior blacks to my old pk550, and I know plasma folk will tell me how crap lg's were at black level, and to see some high end plasma before talking black levels.. but whatever I'm basing this off what I came from. Also like many other members have stated throughout this thread my 632 has no DSE or unevenness (unlike my older 52lcd65u wich had problems with DSE).

The biggest problem I have with the TV is one not of its own but rather the limitations of my own living room... it is very narrow so I have to sit at the max 8'7" from the screen and min 7'3" (yes I'm anal and I measured it lol) and at either distance I am not far enough away from the display that I am always outside the proper viewing angle at some point, so I do see a slight image degredation at the outer corners of the display (remedied by moving body position so I know it's not clouding). Now this has presented other problems in which anything less than 1080p source material looks horrible, but I blame that on the source material.. just proves that hd cable needs to step up it's game and stop compressing the images so much, as blu rays and 1080p gaming on my rig looks absolutely amazing.

All in all I feel like this is a great TV, while I dont have it professionally calibrated I am running billdag's settings (sorry if I spelt it wrong) and I sure am enjoying the set, but in all honesty I just wish the viewing angles were a little bit more forgiving (compared to plasma), but I know that is an inherent thorn in the side for lcd panels and one that I have to get used to again, and the shock and awe factor when people come over and witness this megalith never seems to get old!.

Edit: So far so good, week old, no dead or stuck pixels, wich to me is very impressive.

Just noticed you hit 5,000 posts. Congrats!
And, you did it in only 4-1/2 Yrs. That averages about 3 posts a day for 4-1/2 Yrs. Quite an astounding achievement that really shows your true passion. Way to go!!

Yeah my HT is my world wink.gif ,
You know I keep looking at the 90"er & then other displays as well, 4k , other MFGers , ultraHD , the new 2013's & think ya know maybe I'll bite & then reality sets in , Is the new 90"er or other new displays in any way a Huge advancement over the 632 80"er I have , NO they are not ! Mine is dialed in , the PQ is superb , I have have had ZERO issues with this beast .
I will stay pat with this display till there is another major advancement in the display tech .
UltraHD & 4K has no content & right now the 4K displays will be outdated by the time 4K & UltraHD content is a reality wink.gif

still haven't gotten back at ya about how my rigs are setting wise ,but I'll work on that soon . tongue.gif

Yeah, I can definitely relate to that. I get real excited when I read about the new technologies, but, in all honesty, after living with my 80-632U for about 1-1/2 Yrs. I am still thrilled when I fire it up at night and watch a good movie. It doesn't get a whole lot better than that. Truth be told, I get a little disappointed now when I go to a movie theater (IMAX exception) and notice the blurry picture, zero pop, and mostly washed out color and poor blacks (not to mention the 24 fps judder that has driven me crazy my entire life!). BUT....it is HUGE, but maybe that's not enough anymore. Still waiting to see a 4K presentation but no theaters near here. I would guess that it looks similar to IMAX and that is a very worthwhile improvement over the 2K DLP theaters that have taken over in the Vancouver BC area the last couple of years.

17 or 18 feet. The TV has a very slight tilt downward.

I should try that.
I have it at about 11 feet and I know what my viewing experience is at that distance but the room is 24 ft long so I can go any distance.
