And after bringing this big tv home im glad i did instead of ordering down south having it shipped to northern states and bring it across to canada... thing is a beast and easy to damage..

This tv replaced a 60'' samsung D6000 led.... In a huge room 16ft+ away from tv,.... and all i gotta say is wow ...i dont even know how i was considering a 70'' sharp instead of ponying up for the 80'' Those folks with large rooms and want a big pannel dont even fool yourselfs 80" or bigger is the only way to go

But thanks to everyone on the 80" forums ....this tv is delivering great picture..... makes my samy d6000's flashlighting unbarable..... Glad i decided to get an older backlit model before the new edge lit came out........ and honestly i like a superslim led like the samsung but in reality when the plump 80'' was hung on the wall i could hardly tell the thickness diff

Thanks to all the great info on this forum....
throw them InFamous SuZooK setting on that puppy ! You'll be Happy with this 80" 632 for long while until the newer tech comes down the pike , It seems a big chuck o'$ now but when the new stuff (2013) is more expensive, slightly less PQ , about those thin displays ,what's it really matter when a 632 is an Inch thicker & full back lit array is a proven better design .
Just look at the Un-Happy campers over the 2012 70" threads to tell ya edge lit is not the best .
seems some are Un-Happy with the new 2013 models already as well .
the 632 80" proven product, great track record , dependable ,great PQ & what they do change-up design so to lower production costs 'Sigh'
All us owners are gonna be boasting soon about how we got ours & ' Dem Fools ' let one get away wink.gif that Never coming back !

I've had my 632 for a few months now. After living with the set I have to say that I have not for a minute wished that I had made a different purchase.

The set has done a great job with every source I have used (DIsh H, Blu, PC monitor, Netflx).

I have been especially surprised by the quality of Netflix using the built in application. I have an HD capable DSL connection and Netflix content is often better quality than Dish, which varies by channel.

Not sure if it is the signal compression used by the various providers, but I wasn't expecting much from Netflix, but the free trial convinced me that my expectations were wrong.

Best Buy's website lists very specific online retailers that they'll price match. I wonder what kind of luck I'll have with them matching Costco.com's price since they're not included.

From their site:

At the time of purchase, we will match the current pre-tax price for new, identical, immediately available products from a local retail competitor's store and these designated major online retailers: Amazon.com, Apple.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Buy.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, Frys.com, hhgregg.com, HP.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, Newegg.com, OfficeDepot.com, OfficeMax.com, Sears.com, Staples.com, Target.com, TigerDirect.com and Walmart.com. We will match prices between our stores and BestBuy.com®. We will also match prices post purchase if we lower our price within 15 days of your purchase.

I have a Sam's Club near me and they change the model numbers slightly for the items they carry. My BB uses this as a reason not to price match them.

I believe Costco may do the same thing.

The sets are usually the same, but the warehouse clubs often throw in something like an HDMI cable to make technically a different item.

The Costco model number is the same. Website says LC-80LE632U

Usually, the warehouse club part numbers have an 0U after the model number. This unit does not have that suffix in the part #.

Best Buy should be able to match the Costco price of 3299.99 All they have to do is call your local Costco, and verify that they have the unit in stock, and verify the price on the item. If they value your business, then they should match the price to make the sale. Get a manager involved. Granted, the BBY 2 year financing is a good deal, but on the other hand, Costco extends the warranty to 2 years. If Best Buy does not want to price match, buy it at Costco. The return policy at Costco is much better than at Best Buy....

I love Costco for that reason and my last 5 displays have all come from there, but this time I went with BBY to take advantage of the 2 years no interest (that's like free money) and free delivery. My BBY didn't even call Costco to verify. I just showed them the price on my phone and they price matched no questions asked. Don't forget that Reward Zone gives you a $5 gift card for every $250 spent, so that's another $70 back in BB rewards. I used my brother's Premier Silver membership and a triple points coupon, so I think he ended up getting $210 back in BB rewards.

I also bought the extended warranty direct from Sharp, but hopefully I'll never need it.

I love mine ,

Agree with this 100%!!! I've had mine for over a year and have seen many sets since then. The new edge-lit sets all seem to have major issues. The only set I would even think about upgrading to would be the 90" (my nephew has one), but not for double the price of the 80".

Well I went to Best Buy here in the San Francisco Bay Area to try and have them match Costco and was told they no longer have any available. The manager checked the area and couldn't locate any. I came home and checked the BB website and they show "In Store" only but unavailable throughout my area.

Guess I better get it from Costco before it's too late.

Has anyone if here spent any time with a 844u, the 240hz model to compare?
I see costco still has the 632 for $3299 and my local store will not be reordering them.

Question about wall mount. I have a Peerless PA760 mount which is sold for up to a 60" set and 130lb capacity. The weight of the 632 is well in range. Can i just take down my current plasma and move the hardware onto the 632 and be fine? Or do I need to buy and install a whole new mount for some reason? I'm not understanding why a mount would max out at a size rather than a weight since (i think) the mounting points on the set are the same regardless of size.

Thanks,
Wandering)Burr

as long as the mounting holes on the back of the plasma & the 632 are the same in size & location , it will work just fine smile.gif

I had my first one replaced due to internal screen damage. No problems so far with the replacement and after a few weeks am I very happy with the set. I am using primarily for Bluray and gaming. I know this set is poorly rated for gaming lag which I was quite concerned about, but in game mode with the picture set to dot by dot, I am finding it hard to notice any obvious input delay. The PQ from HDTV through comcast cable is ok, but Bluray movies are absolutely stunning. Don't regret the purchase in the least.

I can't decide what to do now lol

I am still in the process of finishing the basement, I was sold on getting the Sharp 70" 8470U at Costco, now its not there

While I was there today, the 80" Sharp was discounted to $3000 now. It was sitting next to the Sony R550A and the Sony looked better in the store. I chalked it up as OTB settings. Before I was looking at $1000 dollar difference from the 70 to 80". Now its only $400. As others have asked, is it better to go with this backlit? How legit are the CNET reviews on this set?

Thanks

That CNET review is B. S. .
This is a great display one of the best most dependable Sharp has made in YEARS ! the 2013 display's by Sharp are not any where near as good as this is .
We have settings here on the thread that will dazzle you , get it before they are all gone I've had mine 15 months now & I am a Very Happy camper . for 3K that is a steal ....

Thanks

I just called and they have 1 left in the box, they pulled it off the floor for me and I will get it tonight. Trying to figure out if it will fit standing up in my shortbox Denali pickup.

Dimensions of box are 80 x 48 x 12

I would have to have it long ways in the bed and sticking out....

Reading the thread it appears do not lay flat

strap it upright much like you would a motorcycle in a P/U bed is done , bring some boxes with you to support the display on both sides to help prevent the box from shifting , a wide board lenght wise along the top to keep the straps from crushing the box when you tighten the straps down , apple boxes on both sides would work well as they are stout . the idea is to make sure the display does not shift side ways
post #3111 of 3272
thanks guys, didn't see the last post until now, that would have been very helpful to have the extra boards and boxes for the straps

I did get it home though and my neighbors helped me bring it in. I am a ways off before it will be setup and its sitting in my hallway now.

My original plans were for the 70" and I will need to do a little sheetrock patch repair as my surround speakers will be covered about an inch on the left and right but that should not be a problem. I have about 3-4 inches of play to go outwards

Looking forward to finishing my basement and getting this up

So Costco has it $300 less in store than what they show online? I'm including the $200 discount already.

I'm at my local Costco warehouse now. Same price here as online. Not $3000 here :-(

Guess warehouses can vary

I was getting nervous that places were going to start to run out, like what happened at Best Buy.

So I pulled the trigger and ordered one from Costco.com.

Thank you all for all the useful information and advice.

Costco online means they deliver & with this panel that's a good thing
post #3116 of 3272
they actually took $200 off the $3000 - Not sure what "No rebate limit" means....

Maybe you can have them match?

Good luck, it will be a while before I get mine setup, its sitting in a hallway now lol

WOW!!!!! That price is hard to believe!

You should really plug it in and check it out and make sure there are no defects

I thought about it but I am still in the middle of my basement finish and I have crap everywhere (downstairs and up)

I have 90 days to return to Costco so figure I have some time

The problem I have now is I planned my speaker locations etc for the 70" Sharp

Now they don't fit but I think I can shift the left speaker over to the next space but my center channel will be off centered about 4". already have everything painted......

New layout

I not sure if I would notice that much, I am painting the speakers to match the walls.....

Consensus????

Thanks,

Mike

You Really should open the box , remove the upper box ( the lower box the display sits in a syro "cradle " ) plug the display in & test to see if there are defects . Reason Why ? ? ? is that there might not be any 80" 632 displays left at Costco to exchange with . rolleyes.gif
