Dayton / Lima, OH - HDTV - Page 206

excellent -- thanks for the prompt reply.

i remember when you could get ESPN over QAM, those were the days.

and i tested QAM on my own and the only things worth watchin are ABC, NBC, CBS, basically the broadcast channels like you stated. i like how when i bought a new TV i made sure it had QAM but most cable companies won't even use it except for the broadcast channels which iirc they have to b/c of the FCC, heh. it's better than air, though

The other channels are QAM as well, just encrypted - need one of their boxes to decode. They aren't allowed to encrypt broadcast nets, I believe.

Not even. OTA you get a better, less processed picture and EPG which TW does not transmit.

While cable local HD is very good, OTA is, and will remain, the best method of local HD reception. Now if you don't have a choice then cable HD locals will easily suffice. But if you have a choice, you can't go wrong chosing OTA via an antenna.

Hey all - I'm having those audio cut-outs on Ch7 OTA again. Please don't tell me I'm the only one? Its been going on for a few days.
Happening here too. Also the EPG doesn't seem to be working either. You know, by this time you would thing CH7 would have their act together and have the bugs worked out.

I hope you all won't mind a momentary digression but I want to feel out fellow Lima folks on this at least:

Who has the absolute best broadband Internet around these parts? Is it TWC with Road Runner?
Well, the only other alternative is Cinti Bells Zoom Town, but RR is faster.

OTA channel 8.2 is Fox. I'm still having very inconsistent to no HD on it. Right now I'm watching 24 and it's not in HD like it should be.

Anyone else having this problem? Has that station been having any issues?

OTA Dayton FOX is 45.1 not 8.2. QAM Dayton FOX might be 8.2 on cable but not OTA.

In Lima it's 8-2. This is the Dayton/Lima thread.

There's very little reason for it to be lumped in this thread.... It's too small of a market to have it's own thread though. It could have been dumped in the Ft Wayne IN thread, Toledo OH, maybe Columbus OH, or this one.

Also, it's hard to tell where someone is located when they refuse to put location information in their user info.

Go to DSLReports and check. You're in Shawnee, as I recall, so you've got more options than many. I think you're the only person from Lima who posts here...

I'd NEVER call TWC/RR the "absolute best". What it does have going for it is a lot of coverage area.
Anyone else watching Fox via Dish tonight and noticing trouble? I switched to the OTA feed and it was great.

Every 3-5 seconds, get a little blip in the audio, can't tell if the video is stuttering as much, but it's off/behind/catching up quite a bit.

Don't know if it's affecting any other satellite providers or TWC (not likely), but thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone's seeing the same problem.

I switched from TWC (Earthlink) to U-Verse recently and so far I'm feeling that I get much more bang for your buck.

$55 for 18mbit/1.5mbit compared to $49 for 7mbit/768k... Although after my 6 months of promo (I'm only paying $35 right now), I'll switch to 12mbit/1.5mbit for $45.
He's in Lima ... no ATT U-Verse available there. That's Sprint/Embarq/Centurylink territory.

Has WHIO changed anything in the way they broadcast full screen 16:9 lately? I'm using a HTPC to view OTA content and out of the blue I get a 3/4" border down the right side and bottom of my screen anytime they broadcast anything in 16:9. When it switches to 4:3 obviously I can't tell if any thing has changed on the side of my screen, but the space on the bottom goes away and the image fits edge to egde top to bottom...
Not that I'm aware of. Same beautiful 16:9 picture as always.
It's definitely WHIO. They've changed something and I wish they'd change it back. I have no issue with any of the other local affiliates. The important thing to realize here is I'm on an HTPC that has no default overscan like every single TV on the market.
Question. I have a new (to me) HDTV and use OTA. Every channel works perfectly, both Cinti and Dayton stations, except WHIO CH7 has beautiful video but no audio. This is a bummer because I only get CBS in DD 2.0 now with WKRC CH12 instead of 5.1 from WHIO CH7.

So, is it me and my tuner or is it CH7 that is screwing up?
WHIO's news this morning was fine. Is the audio problem continuous or was it with network programming last night?
Actually it is continuous. 7-2 has perfect audio, 7-1 no audio. And it is still this way this evening. Every single other channel has sound and picture.

Is there an email addy for the chief engineer for WHIO that anyone could provide me with please?

Probably should remove that email address now so he doesn't get hammered by the spam harvesters...
Yes, I already emailed and am waiting on a reply. I also deleted the email address.

Nah, don't see the need. I got the e-mail address from WHIO's website and it's there plain as day. I wouldn't have posted it here otherwise. If it had been given to me and it wasn't "public" otherwise, I might PM it someone in need...
535pm on WHIO news Sat night they cut away from a report and then you hear a women's voice say "oh sh*t". It wasnt softly or in the background either, loud and clear.

Comedy gold. I bet somebody got chewed out too!

ABC 22 has been running announcements that they have quadrupled their transmitter power.

The announcements & their web site indicate you have to rescan your converter/DTV to "receive the "New" "Stronger" ABC 22".

This seemed odd so I emailed the station. It turns out that they are still transmitting on the same frequency. You only have to rescan if you previously could not receive ABC 22.
