Do in-wall speakers sound as good as bookshelf speakers? I like the sounds of my Boston surrounds, (all my speakers are matched) but I feel I might be better served with in wall speakers due to the room layout. So, if you guys with experience with both the bookshelf speakers and the in-wall speakers please chime in and give me your opinions.
I just moved into a new house and am setting up the theater room. The room is approximately 20 ft x 18. The room floor layout is great, however I have vaulted ceilings with about 5 different ceiling lines in it. It plain out right sucks. I just purchased a JVC RS-15 projector, and a Pioneer SC-37 Elite receiver. I have Boston VR-950 towers for the fronts, a Boston VR-12 for the center, 6 Boston HD-5's for surrounds, heights and a Bic F-12 sub. I am very happy with the Bostons and am excited about getting them hooked up to the Elite.
My issue is the different ceiling lines in the vaulted ceiling. At some points in the room, the ceiling starts at 4 ft. off the floor and at others its about 6 ft. The room looks cool but this is not ideal for my surrounds or heights. Outside of room acoustics my problem is mounting my Boston HD-5 surrounds. If I mount the HD-5's, they may sometimes get int he way of anyone over 4'6" tall and the room geometry will be difficult to get them just right.
I have seen good reviews about the monoprice in-wall speakers and I do like a good item for a good price, (I always use monoprice for tv mounts, wires and cables) but will they sound anything like my Boston bookshelf units.
I have read the thread for the monoprice but would like to know if I do go with in-walls is there a speaker out there that is light years ahead of the monoprice for a decent price.
WAF is pretty important also, and she likes the ideal of not seeing boxes mounted to the wall. She always disliked it in the last theater room. In fact the in-walls would look way better considering the locations that will have speakers.
Or should I just go ahead, and mount the bostons.
