Aliens: Colonial Marines

I've been playing games based off of James Cameron's movie sequel Aliens since Steve Cartwright's release for Activision on the Commodore 64. Dozens of similar themed titles have come out in the last 30 years, both good and bad. Due out in 2012 by Sega, is Aliens: Colonial Marines finally a game to do the movie justice?

The game looks real promising, though still pretty early and rough 'round the edges. Like the easy co-op option, hope they do it right with voice chat supported.

Randy Pitchford always tries too hard to be the "cool gamer guy" when he speaks. I appreciate his enthusiasm but he needs to quit the forced hipster lingo.

Game has officially gone gold, releases very soon. No-one looking forward to it around here? I want to grab it day 1 but I might wait for a few reviews.

I was hoping that they make use of the Cross-Control feature shown in LBP2 to let us use the Vita as a motion tracker, but I guess not. We'll see how the final product comes together overall.

Oh, I'm certainly looking forward to it...just extremely cautiously enthusiast about it. The development history for this title has been replete with release delays, no? Made me think they were really having trouble getting it ironed out, and possibly it could die right on the vine. So after all the hype, I really have no idea of what to expect for what I sincerely hope will be the best Aliens franchise game to appear on a console for some time. It could be a bug-ridden, corner-cut wreck, and that would disappoint me greatly.

Think there'll be any Move support? I'm toying with the idea of trying out the fancy gun controller experience on a shooting game this time around.

It hasn't been announced and the launch date is approaching, so no.

Oh well...it was a crazy idea, anyway. What are some better controller options for a PS3 shooter these days, beyond the analog controller? I'm just itching to try something more "specialized" for the job. wink.gif

In a similar extent, I felt it was time for me to finally try out a force-feedback steering controller, too, but honestly, there really is no driving game out right now that has snagged my attention. So, it's kind of a dead idea at the moment.

I don't know if it will be a release day purchase for me but I'm ready to kick some aliens with my pulse rifle. Here is a pretty recent game play trailer.

Has anyone played this yet? Is it decent?

Saw a video review. It looks terrible, and the fact that they probably used the better looking parts says it all.

I've played about 2 hours of the single player campaign (Xbox 360 version) and to me it is a mixed bag. On the plus side, the game nicely recreates the environments, weapons, music, sounds and other visuals from Aliens although the textures and models are nowhere near what you get from an A-list game from this generation. In terms of gameplay however, there are some odd properties that clearly show an unfinished product (despite having been in development since 2006). For example you can stand next to your AI squadmates, unload a full clip from your pulse rifle into them and nothing happens. That kind of behavior is, in my opinion, the game's worst failing based on what I've seen so far since it instantly kills the ambience. While I don't think its necessarily the complete train wreck the reviews make it out to be, I also don't think its worth the $60 asking price unless you're a hardcore, completist Aliens fan. Rent or wait for a significant price drop.

If you're on the fence about this game, despite all the negative word of mouth, this gif should show you what a shoddy game A: CM actually is:

Ridiculous.

HA!!! I outsmarted the Playstation console this time! No way was I going to sit down ready to expect to play right away with my newly arrived game disc. I anticipated, and knew to fire up the machine waaaaay ahead of time before I would be ready to play. What awaited me was a console update, followed by a 100 MB game patch, and then a sizable installation of hdd local game files ( a GB?). I would have been out about 20 min had I fell into that trap one more time of turning it on hoping to play right away. wink.gif

They should just call it the Patchstation...I mean seriously, c'mon!!! tongue.gif
