Infinity RS-3 and 2000.3, same exact speakers?

There will be subtle differences between the two, but I didn't pay much attention to the details back in the day; I don't know if there were any crossover or driver tweaks, although I assume there are.

I believe the RS speaker line came out before the 2000.reference series.

I sold Infinity back in the mid 80's. It's been a long time but I could swear the RS-3's were out then. Not a bad speaker for the money, but why would you want to buy a 25 year old speaker where parts are likely unavailable? I can't remember if that model had the EMIT tweeter or the polycell tweeter, but the EMIT parts haven't been available for years. Unless they are a garage sale find for ridiculously cheap, I would pass. You are essentially considering a speaker owned by a completely different company. The original Infinity, and then some time in the 90's I believe they became part of Harmon International. Harmon isn't really known for their support of the "old company" models. Ask anyone who owns vintage Mark Levinson gear.....

I happened to find my old (1999) copy of an Orion Blue Book. It says the Reference 2000.3 was made in '97 and were only $330 a pair new. The RS-3A and 3B were made from '82-87, and were $1300-1500 per pair. According to the '99 Blue book they were only worth ~250 used then, and they certainly haven't increased in price since.

So the 2000.3 was from a lesser, different series that the RS. My recommendation to pass on either still stands unless someone gives them to you. Why not consider something current from Infinity where you have a warranty and parts are available?

Digiz, Im looking to do the same as you because I have a pair of RS2's, RS3's, and RS5's and tweeter went bad in one of the RS2's. I see the Reference series (2000.2, .3, .4, etc) on Ebay constantly. The one thing I do know is that the tweeter on the Reference ones are the silk dome type. The problem is that I don't know what the RS's have. I know this is an old post but, just last spring I ordered 2 tweeters for my RS3 model speakers. I replaced both didn't want one old and one new. Anyways, the tweeters are available from infinity maybe it was harmon anyways, just send them an email and they will get you the part number. I think the were about $50 each. now I have a new tweeters and a already broke in spare. I hope this helps people in the future.
