+1 on this. I use my Kill-a-Watt more to see if something weird is going on. If I build 5 systems that use 20W and the sixth (same components) is pulling 40W I known something is up somewhere. It's the same way I use reported temps and WEI -- more as a comparison tool to tell me if something's up not for the absolute values.

Just set up Plex and quit converting your movies to iPad friendly size/resolutions, I think you can use Fing, RemoteBoot, or Wake in iOS for remote WoL (WoW)

Are there android apps to issue WOL magic packets to your HTPC or PC from a phone/tablet either WiFi or 3g/4g?

There are a lot more for Android than iOS. Fing was initially an Android app

Pure WOL should have more options available than WOW, but I have used Fing for WOW

Umm.... X10 and YAC have nothing to do with Android or iPad. It's a home automaton system. When a motion sensor is tripped it triggers events on my computer like a text message on the screen that its been tripped. And that is through YAC and Tapirex and it serves computers around the house to notify.
