List of budget subwoofers ($300 and less) - Page 18

Thanks!

Has anyone tried the Polk Audio PSW10? Is it reasonable? How does it compare to the Sony SA-W3000/Z Subwoofer? Any better 10" subs out there for approx $100?

http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inch-Monitor-Subwoofer/dp/B0002KVQBA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360808117&sr=1-1&keywords=subwoofer

Polk PSW10
- 10" driver
- 50W continuous
- 40Hz @ -3dB

Sony SA-W3000
- 12" driver
- 100W RMS amp
- 20Hz @ -?dB (maybe 30-35Hz @ -3dB, realistically?)

The PSW10 is a decent sub within its modest limits. I have no idea how the Sony sounds but, based on specs alone, I'd take it over the Polk. And I wouldn't pay more than $100 (all in) for either one.

Can somebody break this down to me in laymans terms?

Bic FL12 vs. Bic HL-200 vs. PA-120

Price goes FL12 --> PA-120 --> HL-200

Is there a good reason to take anything other than the Amazon bargain priced FL12? Specs seem awfully close; what am I missing?

Thanks eljaycanuck! What do people think about the

BIC America - 10" 350-Watt Powered Subwoofer Model: V1020

It is currently $145 with free shipping at BB. Is it worth that price? Does it have decent sound for the cost? Anything better available at that price range?

I disagree slightly with Jim on this one...but like he said it is all about what is a major difference to you. The PL 200 is rated at about twice the power, and digs about 3db deeper at its -3db point (22hz). The finish might matter to you also if WAF is a consideration. Whether or not those things are worth an extra $100 is up to you...and IF they are, then you also have to consider the RW-12 at $20 more when on sale.

Amazon has the PSW505 on sale now for 199. I know its not a audiophile favorite, but for that price it might be hard to ignore for those of us who are upgrading from a crappy 8" sub or for those that are buying their first.

+1

It's a great choice if one's budget is $200. smile.gif

I was 4th and inches from grabbing the HL-200 for 280 shipped. Something came up yesterday and I put the purchase off till today. So this at 199, from Amazon directly (so returns if needed are super easy) made it a wrap for me. The 80 bucks saved help defray the cost of the speakers I had to pick up.

Your problem will be room size. From your other thread

The PSW505 will be challenged to fill that kind of space at higher volumes. Probably will really struggle to do so at higher volumes.

My bigger problem was $$$ and the wife (CFO - hahaha).

Plus, I don't want to be punched in the chest or have stuff shake off the shelves. I just want some decent satisfying bump. Remember, I'm coming from a little 100 RMS 8" down firing Polk from 10 years ago. This thing will sound like a entirely diff't beast.

Screw it. I went and cancelled the PSW505 and ordered the PL-200. As for the wife's eventual tsunami, this too shall pass.

You will be MUCH happier with the pl-200. I have it, and it is a fantastic sub, only very slightly under the Klipsch RW-12d in performance. (I own both)

Nice.

I ordered through SoundDistributors.com. I hope they do a good job sending it out to me (2x box and what not). Vegas to Jersey via UPS ground is a lot of truck changing. Eric (the dude at SoundDistributors) seems quick to answer emails and what not so I'm hopeful it translates into a good experience.

hi all what do you think about a boston aws250 for 150.00 or should I go for pl-200 . is pl200 that much better

Looking for an inexpensive sub because I think I need two - or is one good sub better than than two lesser ones? Room is 18x18x12 or approx 3900 cu ft with one end open to the second floor. I have a place for one sub but a second will be awkward. Need wireless for both as the floor is hard wood on a slab and the roof has little clearance above the ceiling.

Should I start with the Klipsch RW-12d, and hopefully add a second later, or step up to a Dayton, SVS, Hsu, et al.? Bookshelf speakers all around so I know I need the big box.

I've never heard of a wireless Klipsch RW-12d. If they do make it in a wireless version I'm sure the cost would be substantially higher. Finding a "inexpensive" wireless subwoofer isn't going to be an easy task for you.

I was thinking of the wireless kits I see advertised, or do they not support a sub. I think I have seen soundbars with wireless subs at BB.

There's probably someone here that could advise you on wireless kits to convert a subwoofer to wireless but, sorry, it isn't me. As far as wireless soundbar/subwoofer packages at BB, with a room the size of yours, they probably wouldn't help you much. I'm sure other, more knowledgeable, folks on this thread will have some suggestions for you.

Thanks OP, Currently own a BIC F12 sub with Polk Monitor 70/60 setup and just upgraded by fronts to Energy RC70's, was wondering if BIC F12 blends well with Energy RC70 or do i need to upgrade the sub as well? If yes what is the recommended sub? Budget is pretty tight after my recent purchase.

You would have to jump to the $500 price range in order to see a substantial enough jump in quality, when upgrading from the Bic F12.

FWIW, the wireless Polk DSWPRO 550wi 10" sub slips under the $300 limit, before you buy the wireless kit, with the current Newegg email 40% off.

Bit bullet on a Bic F12 today. I just bought polk 2x 75t, 25c, 45b, and got a free polk psw111 sub...afraid might not like the psw111 so I went ahead about bought the F12 which is what I have wanted since I discovered the monitor line couple years ago.

My plan is to get rid of the psw111 if it flat out sucks and sell it. I am coming from an 8" onkyo htib sub. I know it will blow that htib sub away, but my 75t's have lower response frequency than the psw111 haha.

I am using a Denon 790 with 90w channel for the 5 speakers. With that said, anyone have any opinions using both psw111 and f12 together(probably use the psw111 as a buttkicker behind couch...but honestly no idea where to even but the f12 yet)? I bought a y cable and another sub cable just to try it out anyways. Am I better off dumping the psw111 regardless? maybe it will impress me after all when it gets here.

The RW-12D is a big jump up from the F12 for $300 then the next step is around $500ish.

Got use for a 2nd audio setup somewhere in the house one day? Maybe a small bedroom 2.1 setup? Might be worth keeping the PSW111, rather than selling if you might have another use for it.

ehh...I'm giving my newborn son my 10 year old onkyo 6.1 htib box speakers and an older harman kardon amp already since I have nothing to do with it now, as a starter set to teach him how to take care of his stuff...so not really lol.

i keep reading about klipsch rw-12d and feel like I should of spent extra $113 to get it when it's on sale instead of getting the F12. At least amazon has a good return policy if f12 doesn't suit me. I have a feeling it will be just fine though.

But you don't want to have to return a sub. Those things are big and heavy. Shipping will be expensive.
amazon's return shipping just comes back off the refund...not to bad...or I could just sell it too, but I don't think i'm going to be disappointed with the F12 for $187

Hello Gents,

First post here. Been kinda lurking around for a couple days. Was really wanting to go with an HSU VTF-2 MK4 but just couldn't bring myself to finalize the order. Tried to grab the Klipsch RW12D everyone talks about but I believe Newegg sold out of em. Got a deal on a JBL SUB150P for $149.99 and couldn't resist. Looks a little strange but has a decent amp to push it. Hopefully it will be here before the weekend. With the savings I was able to replace my 20 yr old receiver with a new Onkyo, and throw in a couple SVS bookshelf speakers to use as rears. smile.gif
