Any real 120hz 1080p projectors with Dual-Link DVI and or Displayport connection?

I want to hook my gaming rig up to a projector and play games in full 120hz 1080p. I almost pulled the trigger on an HD33, until I realized that it only had HDMI 1.4 which does not handle 1080p 3d past 24hz.

Are there any real 1080p projectors coming out that will handle a full 120hz 3d image and have either a dual-link dvi or display port connection?

I was getting very excited over the HC7800 as they claim full 1080p 120hz, but that looks like a lie because I only see them mention it as having hdmi 1.4 inputs. WTF! I am sick of the lies, if it does not have a dual-link or display port connection than its not a real 1080p 120hz!

So are there any real 1080p 120hz 3d projectors coming out that have a dual-link dvi or display port connector?

Are you sure about that? Regular speed HDMI, which has half the bandwidth of high-speed, supports 1080p at 60hz. I would have to imagine that high speed hdmi would therefore support 1080p at 120hz.

Yes, I'm sure. Its not about the actual 1.4 HDMI being the problem, its the actual display/projector itself. They discuss it on this other AVS thread:

Well if no 1080P are there any 720P projectors that can do this?

I think the acer 5360 can from the description in this video.

The problem is the source material. ther is no 120hz source material so you are changing the refresh rate somewhere. Either the player, the AVR, or the projector is changing the rate. Then there is the question of if you mean CFI (creative frame interpolation) i.e. the projector is creating an frame between 1 and 2.


The quick answer is no there is no projector that I have read about that does what I think you mean by 120hz display.

yeah the ACER 9500BD is the only chance for this, I'm waiting to find out more info on it as well. Looking at the user manual though, it doesn't look like it.
If you have $30000+ for a Digital Projection brand projector, they have some that do it.

The lack is weird. There are projectors capable of 1080p120, just no dual-link dvi input for it. There are a number of 1080P120 monitors, so someone sees the need. Dual projectors with non-nVidia drivers is the only option now, which has other pros and cons.

I dont think there are any projectors that are capable of 1080p 120hz without DVI, do you have a link of one that you've seen?
As for the monitors, those use Display port, which has the throughput capable for a 1080p 120hz signal.

Lots of them are capable of 1080P120. That is what frame interpolation is. They display it no problem, they just can't accept it as input. I would guess every 3D monitor is hooked up with dual link dvi not display port.

Yeah that's not real 120hz, fairly useless and harmful to those connecting their device to the PC. Added processing and creates a large amount of input lag.

Oh, no question there, but the point is if they can do FI they can display 120Hz, so the only missing ingredient is the dvi input to allow nVidia 3D to work.

Thank you for making this thread.

I have been waiting to update my PJ so I can run 1080 in 3D on my PC for gaming. I could have gotten a 720 3D PJ a year ago, but decided to wait. I thought with all the new 1080 3D PJs I was ALL SET, but after a lot of reading realized exactly what the OP stated. Now I have to decide if I want to upgrade or wait for true 1080 3D (not just movie 1080 3D @24hz).

I'd also like to see 3D projectors & displays with dual-link DVI or the HDMI spec updated! Like a previous poster here, I was all set to upgrade to the new Panasonic 1080p 3D projector before I realized one cannot game on it in 3D in any useful manner. Even my old Panasonic PT-AE900 has DVI input on it; don't see why it woulda been that hard for them to include dual-link DVI on the new 3D projector. A projector/display is a huge investment, lasting years... so I'm forced to wait until they make these things capable of accepting 1080p/120Hz signals.
