JP hits the target pretty much right on with his choices. They give you a robust capability with reasonable economy.

My personal preference is Z-Wave over Insteon, but that's just my choice. One area of caution is that if you don't have a neutral in your switch boxes, you probably need to look at Z-Wave as they have dimmers that don't require a neutral. Insteon needs a neutral as does UPB.

Elve is a great choice. It's very robust in capability, yet simple to program and very economical. Probably the lowest cost of any of the serious players. Very strong support.

+1 on insteon, beware of what others say with regard to needing a neutral at EVERY electrical box, this isn't entirely true, while a neutral IS necessary for communication, they make two component kits that allow for retrofit control of lights when there isn't a neutral at the existing switch.

I highly recommend the ISY 99 by universal devices to go with any insteon installation, it will give you the iPhone control you're looking, makes set-up much easier, allows for timers, programs, etc. and a multitude of other options.

I think the neutral issue depends on how much extra effort one is willing to go to. Myself, I just want to replace the existing switch with a dimmer and not make any other changes, especially if it's something that has to be done at the fixture.

I've used a mi casa verde (z-wave) unit there is no monthly fee although the unit is more pricey to start
