Quick Help Installing Ceiling Mount

Hey guys. I have an Epson 8700 and have a guy coming to help me install the ceiling mount in a few minutes. I used the website where I entered in my Epson projector model and size screen (Jamestown 130") and I believe it recommended I have about 13' back from the screen. My question is, if I moved the projector back to say 14 or no more than 15', would I be losing any quality? My room has absolutely no ambient light, has 9 foot ceilings (painted flat black) and is 15'x27'. I bought the ceiling mount from Visual Apex model AV-817U ( http://www.visualapex.com/accessorie...MFR=VisualApex ) I want to ensure the best picture quality possible. Any thoughts/recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any quick responses!!

Projector Central seems to tell me it should be further back. What gain is your screen? There is a 0.8 gray 130" from jamestown and I see a 1.2 gain white one on their site.

The owner of Jamestown recommended I buy the white screen (based on lighting conditions, projector, etc.)

How far back is it showing, perhaps I read it wrong!

The Jamestown site says the white 130" screen is 1.2 gain. When I plug it in I get a range of 18'5" - 27'. If I make the throw range smaller than 18'6" (using top left to move the throw distance) it brings up the red message. I'm not an expert (haven't even mounted mine yet) but I would 19' or so would be more ideal. The closer to the screen the brighter the image, so while you could mount it to the back of the room I don't think you'd want to do that as it would be noticeably less bright.

Hopefully someone else chimes in to double check it. Did you do any tests with it yet?

Based on the projectorcentral numbers, you're within the allowable throw distance for this projector and screen. (I'm assuming here that you're talking about a 16:9 screen.) Looks like you'll have a pretty bright image (something like 21fL in a perfect world) but once you account for calibration and bulb aging, you're going to be fine. Moving it back by a foot or two (or probably even five) isn't going to affect your image quality.

According to Projector Central, you can go as close as 12'9" at maximum zoom to achieve a 130" diagonal 16:9 image.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually called James at Jamestown and he said the ideal spot for my setup and equipment would be 16.6" back, but said if I can stay in the range of 15-20 feet back that would be ideal.

Got the 8700 mounted on the ceiling and it looks great! And I got it approximately 16' back from the screen. For anyone looking/shopping, I was very pleased with both the 130" Jamestown screen and the Visual Apex AV-817U ceiling mount.
