According to a post on Disney's Facebook page Beauty & the Beast, Finding Nemo, Monster's Inc, & the Little Mermaid will be released in the cinema in 3D next year. Might we also see these released on Blu-ray? Either way, very exciting!

Interesting that they would include B&TB as it is on 3D BD now. Then again, everybody doesn't have a 3D set yet. I wonder how much the sucessful 3D release of the Lion King will have on folks deciding to get into 3D at home. If Disney didn't, they should have done a survey of those who saw TLK 3D in theaters as to where they stand on 3D in the home. I'm very curious about that myself.

While I would not go to the cinema to see these, I will pick them up on 3D BD the second they are released!

I just excited for Finding Nemo on BD let alone a 3D version of it!

Disney puts out fantastic 3D discs. I'll buy just about anything they release--with the exception of G-Force.

You may change your mind after reading about the "Flat on scope" 3d transfer. They've let certain elements break the frame for added effect (carried over to the BD as well):

The theaters are projecting the film as if it’s 2.35, but we’re delivering 1.85 with letterboxing on the top and bottom, so it looks square-ish. But, every once in a while, we allow objects to extend into the letterboxed region.” To the audience watching with 3D glasses, it looks like the objects are coming out of the top and bottom of the screen.

BB actually has a promo right now where you get B&TB 3D for 8 bucks off when you purchase Lion King 3D which is also on sale.

I picked this up today. Using both $5 off Disney rewards coupons I got both movies for $42.

Huh, interesting. Part of me wishes they would do this for the sides of the film too. Sometimes, mostly in theaters, I get distracted by the incomplete 3d image of the extreme left and right sides of the film (i.e. only the information for one eye will be there).

I wonder how this floating window is effected when watching at home on a 3Dtv or 3D projector...

If it's done correctly, it shouldn't be noticeable at all (I mean, you notice it when it's not utilized, right?)

I always view 3d on my projector. I imagine that the physical frame on a television would hamper the effect somewhat.

Ah, cool. I've heard that term floating around (eh? eh? eh?) a couple of times but never knew what it meant.

So Disney uses it, huh? Guess that makes sense--I don't recall seeing the left/right cutoff on any Disney films. In fact, I think it's only been Dreamworks: Kung Fu Panda 2 (in theaters) and HTTYD (at home). I don't know if there's a correlation there or not, but I was highly disappointed with the 3d presentation of both.

... Yet Megamind is one of my favorites. Go figure.

Don't know about that--even on your projector, any floating window is still within the boundaries of the project-able image, right? After all, these are "floating crops", not "floating images outside of the viewable image of your TV". On normal tvs and your projector, we should just be getting small black bars on the sides of the screen.
