The wall insulation: why is there a horizontal seam? How is that area insulated?

How much does that OvrX cost?

As someone who's about to redo a basement, I'm envious. It looks great.

And so as of Saturday first layer of mud is on and the corners are taped. Monday another layer will go on and then before Christmas they will sand it all down.

The seam just holds the insulation in place. The OVRX was $6.99 per 2x2 sheet and well worth the cost.

Mudding and taping....now the fun begins. The drywall was one of the things I decided to hire out. I can only imagine how long it would have taken me to get all the drywall up, taped and mudded.

Looking good.

Second coat of mud went on last night. Final coat will go on tonight. After that I have to wait for everything to fully dry and Saturday it will all get sanded and ready for primer. I will update with pics before priming
post #36 of 96
Who ever is doing the mudding is very neat! No big globs of mud on the floor.

Hmmmmmm............sanding.............

Doesn't have near the ring of

Ummmmmmmm......BBBBBBeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Of course you might need some (beer) to quench your thirst after inhaling all of the drywall dust.

Good luck.

The guy who is doing the mudding and will be doing the sanding is great and takes pride in what he does. He comes over every day for couple of hours and does nice thin coats of this crap. He said this way when he does the sanding there will not be "too much" dust. Well....... we will see about that hehe. He will be back tomorrow to put the final coat and then Sat. for sanding.

Painted

Front wall and entire ceiling is Behr Beluga Black. The blackest and flattest paint I could get. The rest of the basement is Behr Dark Charcoal. Love the looks... Now if this paint scheme adds to the entire movie viewing experience I will be more than thrilled with this decision.

Very nice, that is some dark paint. Looks like a black hole, which is a very good thing! Did you paint everything flat? If you did that is cool, but you just have to be careful because it tends to show everything. Looks like it is coming together and obviously the guy completed the sanding ok. ;-)

No no... the flat paint is only the black (ceiling and screen wall). The rest is eggshell.

Ah, that was the very same thing I did, very good. You are right those floors look perfect! Nicely done. Really like the color, gives a very warm feeling to the room doesn't it?

Sorry to hear that your progress is done for the year....very sad indeed.

Cheers and here is to "completion" in the new year!

I don't post at all but I feel its neccesary to let you know your build is very nice.

What is the name of the hardwood flooring you are using?
I really enjoyed seeing all of the progress that you have made. Very nice work. I like the paint color and the floors look awesome. Nice Job! I am guessing an area rug will be used in the theater? Will you leave the poles like they are or will they get some kind of treatment?

Best of luck,
Jim

Thanx. The floor is from costco and its Golden Select Brazilian Walnut. Its 15mm thick and comes with underpad glued on. Goes on really easy and at $1.70sqft its a great deal. I had the same floor in my old apartment and loved it.

There will be a thick area rug between the screen and seats. The columns will also have trim on them. There is still some work left but we are getting there. Jan. 30 is my BDay and I am hoping to watch a movie there by then hehe

My electrician came by last night to finish off his work and install all trims. I will have ESA come by for inspection today.

I decided to spray paint the trim on pot lights in the black ceiling BLACK and thats one GREAT decision hehe. Now you cant see the trim in the ceiling just the light shining down.

On the weekend we bought furniture, seating, for the room and it came in yesterday. Another great choice. Very comfy and great price. Just what I was looking for. Fits the space very nice.

Lutron dimmers and hallway wall sconces.

Furniture.

Potlights and electrical trims.

Those seats look really nice. The more I see of your floor the more I like it. I adds such a warmth to the space.

I know you are going to dress up the poles with some trim, but are you going with a prefab type of deal or a DIY thing?

Looking good.

Pre fab and they will be painted to match the paint scheme in the room. I am working on the doors and all trim this weekend so I will post pics next week. Now its looking more and more complete.

And here we go again. It was a busy weekend but all trim is in and all doors are installed. Today managed to caulk all doors and clean up a bit. I knew I shouldnt have painted while some work is still ongoing. I will need to repaint and touch up some walls. Also I had no idea how much the trim and door will add to the space. Not only did it get brighter in there but now you can clearly see the black wall and ceiling and grey walls. Before it was sort of all blening. Now the black really shows that its black (not there).

Stairs soon to be finished.

Screen wall (will need to be repainted).

Where A/V goodies will soon be placed.

And the usual overall shot.

Nice job on the trim. I really like the larger profile that you chose, complements the room nicely. Starting to come together.

Yea we went with 5.25" trim and small molding on the bottom (door stop) to add to the effect. It sure is starting to come together. I cant wait to get the equipment in there but I dont want to just yet. The stairs will need to be stained and sanded and then the railing installed. Once that is done I will hand and install everything.

Where did you find those seats? I really like them and they are just what I would want in my basement.

I got them at The Brick. They are really really comfy

Wow man... your basement has really come together nicely. I can't wait to see it finished!

So looking at your floor plan... are you going to put a bar where the aquarium is currently located? If so, will you have a counter to sit at or just a kitchenette up against the back wall? Do you think you have enough room for a bar to sit at and a place for someone to stand behind it? I'm having a hard time figuring out if I will have room in my basement a similar layout (we have almost exactly the same amount of space).

I also assume that you are ditching the sectional and putting the 4 recliners in there instead. Two rows of 2 or 1 row of 4? If you are doing 1 row of 4 are you planning on any additional seating behind the chairs (like at a high counter for stools or something)? Based on your pics the room looks quite large which is encouraging since 1/2 the people that post on here have gigantic basements.

In the future, not anytime soon, there will be a bar. The way we build that little storage room we made sure that when we install the counter top there will be room behind it for someone to stand (bartender). The couches will be 1 or of 4. Behind them I will build or buy another higher counter and have people sit on bar stools (this will be used this year for watching soccer). The room isnt as large as some but everything works nicely here I think without being too cramped at all.

Good to know you don't think this will be cramped. I'm planning on something very very similar (1 row of 4, high counter with stools and then a minibar in the back of the room). The outside length of the addition is going to be 25'4" so I figure the inside will be about 23' or so. I don't want to feel cramped but I would like to be able to fit everything comfortably. I'm hoping to use a 110-120" screen.

Well as promised. Not much but it will do for now. All trim is painted and doors have handles on. Next step is the bathroom tiles this weekend and maybe hand rail for the stairs.

Very nicely done. What did you use as trim around the structural posts. It looks interesting, and might want to do that to 1 or 2 posts in my basement.

My basement build is even slower than the slower than molasses basement build , started in 2009 winter, and still working on drywalling
