Anyone else have this issue?

I have two hubs and one SMP. I move them back and forth between wired and wireless depending on where they're being used at any given time...

The WD Remote app works on all of them either way for me.

Hmmm. I wonder if 2 GigE switches in the path are an issue. More testing.

Anyone with an idea of how to manually add a network share to the WDTV Live SMP ? One of my PCs behind a powerline adapter bridge is not visible when I click on 'Windows Shares'.

I can ping the WDTV Live SMP from that PC, though.

Shouldn't be... The SMP that's in my master bedroom is two switches away from the WiFi box...

Not possible. They must be visible via broadcast to be discovered.

Unless there's something odd with the PowerLine AV bridge, that should not pose an issue. My kids' older WD Live boxes are both connected via PowerLine AV, and they have no issues seeing the servers.

sweet! an ios remote, thank you!!!!!

time to pick up another SMP.

did you double-check that they're in the same workgroup? double-check that the share folder(s) themselves are setup correctly on the PC you're trying to see via the SMP? (either create a user account with full read/write access and make sure the SMP has the same name and pass, OR give full permission to "everyone" on the folder).

The WD manual is not very helpful in this regard.

Does anybody have a list of RSS URLs that they have tried on the SMP?

Or, maybe there is a link to reference material on how to find or create RSS URLs?

Don't see anyone replying to this, thought I'd chip in.

Links to RSS news feed from BBC here (plus some basic guide):

Slashdot's RSS feeds:

Basically, I just googled these. You could have solved this yourself by now seeing that your post is dated way back ..... :P

Yes it does. My CDs are all ripped into FLACs and they play fine.

Not here. My SMP is connected to the home network via wired-lan. The iOS remote app works on my iPhone 4.

Vudu is now bitstreaming DD+ properly so good news all around. We can also output 24p so this is now one of the best Vudu platforms to watch movies on.

If you just can't run a ethernet hard wire ... well, just try harder But seriously, I know nothing about these, but I think someone said they work...

Powerline Adapters for $16.

The "Shopping Insight" links further down the page should include the other models.

Is this where it incorrectly sends 2ch + multiple tracks of silence . Lights AVR as Multi-Channel, but prevents being able to use (simulated surround) Listening Modes like Dolby PLIIx or NEO:6 ?

Does anyone know if this streams vudu 3d?

Yep!

Yep! -- It's a tad buggy (it will automatically switch my TV to 3D mode when a movie or trailer starts, but will NOT switch it back to 2D mode when it is over, so you see the menu-doubling. Nor will it re-engage 3D mode if you watch a 2nd 3D video in the same session, so keep your TV remote handy.)

Powerline Adapters for $16.

Powerline Networking is VERY hit and miss. For it to work properly both outlets you are connecting needs to be on the same leg of your electric service. Your electric service comes to you as 2 hots (legs) and 1 neutral. You combine one hot and the neutral you get ~120 volts. Combine 2 hots and the neutral you get ~240 volts. If you look at your circuit break box, typically the breakers on one side will be on one leg, the breakers on the other side will be on the other leg. Powerline networking does not do well going across the legs.

I have applied the new firmware. No obvious bugs yet. It still plays back all of my various file formats without any issues.

The multi channel audio bug is definitely fixed.

The BBC iplayer app is cool and renders HD content smooth as silk.

Quite pleased with this update so far.

Regards,

Lt. Dang

I'm sure it was clear that I don't use or recommend them. But $32 for a pair seemed pretty cheap.

Yes, a friend of mine was telling me about them only working on the same leg of the 120v. So, have you actually installed some and seen this happen in person?

You are right. What I have problem with is Apple Lossless files. I used Apple Lossless file format for ripping CDs years ago. I have switched to FLAC and WAV files. The WD SMP works with FLAC and WAV files but not Apple Lossless files.

They all play well on my Logitech Transporter though.

That was definitely the case on OLD power-line standards.

Later HomePlug standards drastically reduced this issue, because HomePlug-AV relies more on the NEUTRAL conductor, which is shared throughout your whole house.

I have three Homeplug devices in my net. One is on the same phase as the "Master," the other is on the other phase. The one on the opposite phase is SLOWER, but not by any significant amount. The same-phase one gets about 130 megabits per second, the other gets about 90.

Unfortunately it does vary so much depending on the house wiring. I have a pair of Netgear AV500 adapters connecting my media center on the first floor with my main network on the second floor where the server and NAS units are. They are on different legs. I've never gotten around to measuring the actual transfer speed, but it is not high enough to stream a high bitrate (40 Mbps) BluRay.m2ts over SMB/CIFS. Trying to do so stutters badly. I have to use DLNA protocol which works perfectly (little error checking so less overhead).

Yes, variance in ANY location is normal.. I was just saying that the old rule of "It won't work on different legs" no longer applies on newer devices (newer being like in the last 5-6 years.)

Oh, I agree completely with that statement, obviously since I do it. I was just providing counter-point to your experience of getting 90Mbps across two legs. I wish that were my case, it would simplify things.

Excuse me...
I'm downloading right now the latest firmware via my mobile network sharing, but I notice some slowness. I think it is better to download it and install it directly from my PC via USB. What does it happen if I stop the download, such as turning off the player?
Thank you.

Thank you.

Turning off the unit while it's updating could make the unit unusable. Let it finish.

It's still downloading...so it's not updating.
But if u tell me that it's better to let it finish...I will do that. Thank You!

Hey can someone chime in? Do I really need to reset to factory defaults to upgrade to the newest firmware? Trying to avoid having to re-key everything back in.
If you don't have any problems, don't worry about it.

If I have issues after a firmware update, I'll often do a "Reset except online services..."
does anybody know if wdtv is gonna include a stretch 4:3 to 16:9 update any time soon? if they do include then they got another unit sale.my brother wont buy one till they include an update.the time he borrowed it he said that pressing the stretch button on the tv remote(samsung plasma) going back and forth really sucked lol
