Correction, I just tested a couple of movies ripped as BR folder structure with ClownBD, and it does keep the chapters.

ClownBD can open MKV files, but I am not sure if it will create it to BR Folder structure. I've never done anything like that, but I've got one BD movie ripped as MKV. I will test it out and see if it is an option.

Follow up. I re-ripped my MKV BD movie with ClownBD as BR folder structure, and it did kept the chapters

Thanks for doing research for the rest of us! Sounds like I might have to give ClownBD a try.

I have been saying this for a long time -- The WD Live players play .m2ts very dependably. The native format on the BD disk is .m2ts, so why repackage it into something else. Chapter support is no big deal when the Live-SMP has skip-to-time functionality.

Just be aware that the WD Live doesn't support playlists so you won't get chapter support anyway. It just plays the .m2ts file directly.

They don't need to be converted to m2ts, VC-1 in MKV works fine for me.

ClownBD creates a M2TS file within the BR folder structure. So if it doesnt work, you can take the M2TS file out and rename it.

I do exactly that. I use Clown_BD to rip all my BD titles then rename the 0000.m2ts file and store it on my NAS for playback on my WD Live players. It always works. You can tell Clown_BD to just create the .m2ts file and skip the folder structure if you don't need/want it.

Alternatively, you can tell Clown_BD to create the folder structure and then package it as BD.iso with ImgBurn. The WD Live will play the BD.iso but all it does is play the .m2ts file and ignore the rest -- including the playlist which contains the chapter point information. This is useful if you have to accommodate a mixed player setup where the other player(s) can read the playlist and give you chapter support.

Finally, if you have the .m2ts file and later decide you want to turn it into folder structure with chapter points, you can just run it through TSmuxer and either input a text file with chapter point info or just let TSmuxer generate chapter points at a fixed interval. Some people may find 5 min chapter points to be a lot more useful than the ones originally on the disk.

This really is pretty easy.

I just got one of these, have a got a lemon or are these as buggy as hell.

Mine keeps resetting or freezing. Using a USB 3.0 2.5" Western Digital HDD, doesn't seem to matter whether it hooked up to the front or the back USB port. It's dual partitioned into a FAT32 and an NTFS drive. And they don't work with PGS subs. Any suggestions?

zBuff: Most complaints about Resets and Freezes are due to something on the user's network that is causing conflicts. Try shutting things off and see if you can pinpoint it.

And they do work with PGS subtitles. I have a number of files with PGS subs that work fine...

I don't seem to have any luck with MKVs made from blurays with MakeMKV

MakeMKV doesn't support zlib compressed PGS's (which is the standard, IIRC).
You can run the MKVs back through MKVmerge and re-enable zlib compression for the PGS tracks and they should work.
Takes just a minute or two per file.

I bought a WDTV2 for my parents. It did play all of my files, but I had a hit or miss with MKV. It played fine with DVD MKV, but a few BD MKV I saw some lag and lip sync issues. However, it played all of my M2TS files without any issues.

Any link to back that up standard part? Thanks. MKVmerge defaults to applying zlib compression, still a 40 GB file it takes ~15 minutes to remux so it would be really nice to see either MakeMKV or WDTV get fixed (I won't hold my breath).

In the case of the "ContentCompAlgo" parameter (Content Compression Algorithm), zlib is the default value.

Thus, zlib is assumed for all tracks unless specified otherwise.

New firmware out. This makes 10 updates so far. I've installed it and so far, so good.

New Firmware & Netflix

After installing the new Firmware, when I start up my SMP and go directly to Netflix I am having a problem with no audio playback. If I play some local or network media first or back out of Netflix and play some other media then go back to Netflix everything is okay. Can anyone else duplicate this problem or is it just me?

Try a cold reboot of the player first. Just pull the plug and wait about 10 min before powering back on. If that doesn't work try a reset to factory defaults.

Tried your suggestions but they did not help. In fact they made things worse. Now I can get NO audio from Netflix (or You Tube) even if I play some local media first. Strangely Pandora works fine. Possibly because it has no video? Local storage and LAN media work fine.

Has anyone else out there had any audio problems like this after the 1.11 upgrade?

Beware of New Firmware

Just went to the WD Forum and others are having similar problems like mine.

Probably best to avoid his firmware for now.

I don't stream Netflix, but I can get U-tube. I'll give it a try on my system from a cold restart and see what happens. I'll let you know.

If a lot of other people on the WD forum are reporting it, it will likely get fixed quickly.

Spent about an hour with WD support trying to get audio back in 1.11. No luck. I was able to roll back to the previous firmware (1.10) and restore the audio to Netflix etc. I think part of the problem may have been after I did the reset to factory defaults I made a mistake setting up the audio options (specifically the AAC setting). I may try to upgrade again when I have the time.

Guys, I need some help for the format of naming shows.
I currently have ie: Eastbound.And.Down.S01E01.mkv

Now for some reason, WDTV doesn't automatically retrieve all the data. I have to go to each individual file and click "options-->"Get info" for each individual file.

Also sometimes it puts them out of order where episode 11 would go before 1 for example.
Can someone please help me out with this? I thought my naming scheme is exactly how it is supposed to be?

Try using

Eastbound and Down.SxxExx.mkv

without the decimals in the name.

Also, use the TV Show filter to sort by Episode Number, as the regular filter just sorts by title.

I have 2 folder on my server "movies" and "shows"

If I select the "shows" filter. The episodes are correctly ordered but then the movies folder disappears. And I have to go back to the filter menu to see the movies.

This is not acceptable and not seamless at all.
Is there a way to have the shows organized by the correct episode and allow me to watch movies as well. Without turning the filters on and off every time?

Sure -- Just modify the TITLE tag in the XML any way you want.

The titles are all correct.

The specific issue is with 30 Rock Season 1.
The first episode that shows up is Season 1- 15, next one is 1-14, etc...

I'm not sure what I need to modify to have them all in order.

I think you may need to do "Season 01", etc...

Do you mean episode 01? I don't really get it, I mean if it retrieves the correct episode numbers and descriptions, why would the correct order be saved.

There are 23 or so episodes for each season of 30 Rock. It would take me forever to go through each and every file and to keep clicking "get info" for every episode.

Is this what you guys normally have to do?
There must be a simpler way to do this?

All I want is just to play my movies with cover art and descriptions, and same for shows.
