Oh, OK............................................................ ...I guess it wasn't too bad.

With Grimm on re-runs now, I was able to finally watch "the pilot" tonite....very interesting indeed.
The Cap doesn't come off so well.

Ugh, the product placement was so annoying in the pilot that it was almost enough to make me drop the show immediately. It's a good thing they made it less prominent, though still not subtle, in subsequent episodes.

James Frain (The Tudors, True Blood, Fringe and a bunch of other stuff) has been cast as a recurring guest star playing Renard's brother. This skinny Brit is a fine actor, looks a bit like Mr. Bean . Should be a fine addition in complicating Renard's arc and revealing family issues.

Yeah, I noticed that....way too obvious.

I like the idea of digging into the Capt.'s story; I have been intrigued for quite awhile.

BTW, thanx for reminding me of True Blood....starts back up 2 Sundays from now.

Season 2 of Grimm starts Aug 13th.

That's a really early start date for the fall season, they must be playing off The Olympics as it concludes the day before the premiere.

Absolutely! Grimm turned out to be a very pleasant surprise last season, a bit of a dark horse you could say. smile.gif

Remember that this is just an early "bonus" airing of the episode. The season doesn't start in its normal Friday timeslot until September 14. I'm guessing the first episode gets shown a second time on September 14, but I can't find confirmation of whether it's a repeat or the second episode.

Epguides.com shows the Sept 14th episode to be new and is numbered as the 2nd of the 2nd season.

Close, but not quite right. NBC will air three new episodes (#201, #202, and #203) on Mondays in August, and repeat them on the following Friday, before switching to its Friday 9pm time slot for new episodes on Friday, September 14. For schedule, see http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/grimm/listings/ .

That's good news, I'm not a big fan of seeing a new episode of a new season and then having to wait a month or longer before the next one airs.

Grimm is a good, not great show. I like the subject matter and characters and have hopes that it will get much better. Weaker episodes in the first season were still watchable and better episodes opened opportunites for great stories. I'm hoping that it will continue to improve and reach a "must watch now" interest level (for me). As it stands, I want to watch it, but have sometimes been slightly disappointed...expecting a build up from a previous nice ep and not geting it. Still, I can't watch Once Upon a Time without gagging. For fairlytale series, this one's a definite plus one.

I'm reading through the thread. I'm sorry if it has been brought up before: Does anyone notice that the HD broadcast of GRIMM is among the best quality on TV? Conversly, the HD broadcast of Once Upon a Time (OUAT) is among the absolute worst?

Can you be more specific as to what YOU are seeing? The only difference if any is OUAT intentionally has some softer filtered shots in some scenes. Maybe Disney wants that look. On my two systems both shows look great just a different way of presenting the material. Grimm also seems to have more night scenes shot at different locations. Both definitely look good in HD to me. Are you OTA,Cable or Satelitte? No compression problems with other shows on the same stations?

For those interested, S1 BDs are being released Tues.

Both look great to me OTA. The filming style is a bit different but the HD aspect is just fine. This wouldn't have anything to do with your 720p is better than 1080i rant you have in other threads would it?

Well, actually only 3 consecutive new episodes on Monday nights (8/13, 8/20, 8/27), a repeat on 9/3, no episode on 9/10, then new episodes (starting with #204) starting on Friday, 9-14.

Wow, might need all 6 tuners Monday night. And that is without football that I have no interest in....

Note that the "Grimm" episode will repeat on Friday 8/17.

Although it took me a little while to get back into the plot line, overall a pretty good episode .. the writers seem to be giving Nick more snappy one liners than I remember from last season .. as well, maybe my memory is incorrect, but it did seem to me this episode was a bit more gruesome / bloody ..

Poor Hank, in his room with his weapon and waiting! He needs to be told what's going on, he's more of an asset knowing what's happening to him than not knowing and believing he's crazy. Not normal in the real world to just leave your partner hanging like that after being exposed to so many different and dangerous situations together.rolleyes.gif

+1 - I totally agree - he needs to be included in the Scooby team!
Well, that was interesting.
After an entire season of the showrunners emphatically declaring that Grimm was going to be episodic not serial, they start the second season with a segment that's the antithesis of episodic.

I wonder if they've changed their mind or if this was just a one-off event to get the season started?
Personally, I'd prefer it to be more serial rather than the "monster-of-the-week" episodic format, so I hope this is a permanent change.

And after b5fan001 brought up the picture quality, I was prepared to complain about all the macroblocking in the dark scenes again. But this episode did look fantastic. If there was any macroblocking in the dark scenes, it was so minor that I didn't notice it. So kudos to them for fixing that issue.
