Something interesting is happening that I was not expecting. The VuNow portion works when I press VuNow. I couldn’t believe it. Simply Amazing.

In the past, I would have to power cycle the receiver a few times in order to get VuNow working. This happened every time including the first day I received my Netboxx two years ago. What would happen is that the LCD display would sit there and toggle between “A” and “H” until I would power cycle. H = HDMI. A =Analog?

This leads me to believe that my Netboox may not be frying the VuNow PCBs after all and that these VuNow PCBs have a serious QC problem.

The odd thing is that all of these PCBs have the same date code on the sticker. I would expect them all to behave the same way considering they were most likely on the same production run and not separate lots.

The sad thing is I doubt we will ever see a firmware upgrade that will give us more features and etc. VuNow is littered with dead links these days. Not Sherwood’s fault, but still disappointing.
Your are correct: A = analog, H = HDMI. HDMI handshake could be the issue. Have there been any changes to the video side of your system?

Hey Jeff,

Nice to hear from you. Sounds like you have the ability to forgive and also still have an interest in the owner's of Sherwood brand products.

No Changes... Same Toshiba TV. Oh well, that problem is gone with this new board.

You have got to admit that this receiver is littered with problems.. Most of them would be solved with firmware.. I wonder why Sherwood is so against new firmware.

The room EQ is hilarious. Especially when you have instances where it detects a subwoofer even though the owner dows not own a subwoofer.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...2#post21371902

He said that it might be his fault, unless he is banging a bass drum, playing other music, tooting a tuba or etc., I am not sure what he is doing to make it detect the subwoofer.

Those are the kind of obvious things that make me scratch my head wondering how it ever made it out the door.

Is it really "Snap EQ" or is it some TI engineered eq and Sherwood used the SNAP name to make it fit into their product line?

I also think Sherwood got the short end of the stick dealing with Verismo. I am really suprised that Sherwood has not gone after TI or Verismo for Damages.

Just another person that possibly has a dead VuNow board.

And Another:

And Yet Another:

Don't let Sherwood try telling you that you are the only one.. In my experience, they will help you, but you just need to be persistent.
But owners need to let Sherwood know that there is a problem..

The second example illustrates that the owner has given up because he is just happy that Sherwood fixed his larger issue.

I notice that Verismo no longer lists Sherwood as a Business Partner or a Customer.

I wonder if Sherwood finally told Verismo where they can stick their product?

Well that certainly didn't take long. I suspect it's VuNow again?

Yes sir!

I'm not the only one that received a Reciever that would just click back into standby mode.

The more reviews showing that the product has problems the better!

It looks as if Jin is no longer at Sherwood

This worries me a little, because of the fact that he was compassionate enough to work though the problems that I have had with this reciever. Now there is no one there that personally knows the history of my receiver.

I'll be willing to bet Gary knows who both you and I are. Some scares never heal.

Jin never had the courtesy to reply to my emails, and that's after being directed to do so by Gary, so to me he was simply another rat on the ship. But it seems like even the rats are deserting the Titanic that is Sherwood. Pretty soon there will be none...
The little bit that I have emailed Gary, he seems like a respectable guy.

He might have to pretend to be nice in order to remain prefessional, but he has replied to my emails.

Everyone there that I have dealt with has treated me like a human.

BTW - My R-904N is behaving again. This may be the 2nd longest amount of time that it has stayed alive.

I just hope that Jin wasn't let go for doing his job and helping the customer..

I thought I seen it all..

Now the returned garbage is getting dumped on the market.. lol

Scroll to the bottom.. another dead VuNow board.

"Bags of crap"? "Replacement crap"?? They sell stuff they actually call crap??? What the h#ll kind of site is that?
Woot is pretty neat form what I see..

They have 1 day deals, but they are also a liquidator of crap.
Bottom Line: YOu know your product is pretty lacking when it ends up in "Bags of Crap"

The name certainly says it all. Perhaps you should send that link to Gary. Let me know just how much of a POS the R904 really is - it's essentially being disposed in something called a "bag of crap".

Needed a <14inch deep D amp, narrow down to the 904....only will use the amp section, is there other issues?

Have you read the first post?

Dwong

This is where Jim and I disagree... The audio portion of this receiver if not bad.. In fact, I find it to be really nice after adjusting the sub-woofer level manually.

Keep in mind you cannot use this as a power amplifier only. It does not have preamp inputs.

With the amp rated at .5% THD? Yup, we do disagree on the "quality" of it...
I have a NHT amp that use D amp (ICE), really like the sound but can't fit it in the shallow cabinet.

With the space limitation, doesn't seem that many choice out there and I was hoping the 904's audio quality would perform similarly. Will only need the HDMi input section and amp.

That's precisely why I bought it, but that turned out to be a decision I sorely regret.

Marantz has the 1402 and 1602, but you're right; there really are few to choose from. There's certainly an opportunity for some manufacturer to step up to the plate and fill the void, but as of yet I haven't found anything else with a similar physical size.

Thanks, the 1402 was my 2nd and last choice, still need to cutout the backboard to barely fit it in.
I just have to deal with the TV speaker for now and hope for something else to come out....

I was at Boulder, CO and attended a Peachtree demo with their 400W/ch digital amp(chip from UK?), so seem Class D is not dead yet

When you listen to this receiver can you hear the distortion?

Appreciable levels of distortion are always audible, but generally difficult to quantify. It often manifests itself in such a manner that you don't necessarily know what's wrong with the sound, but you know something is wrong (unless it's really pronounced, in which case you can identify it immediately). At 1/2 of a percent THD it's more like a clock radio amp then a digital amp from the 21st century.

FYI - I am still screwing around trying to get a resolution for this pile of **** that Sherwood produced.

You're tenacious, I'll give you that. Are you working with Sherwood, or something like the Attorney Generals office?

Working with a Vendor of theirs
