What features would you like in your next Oppo BR - e.g. Oppo BDP-113 and BDP-115. - Page 17

you know what would be nice, if Oppo would add vtuner. Isn't it free? I love vtuner and it's great to have access to radio stations all over the world. For example, there was a music festival in a small town in Germany one time. The local radio station was broadcasting it. I was able to find that radio station and tune in for the whole 3 day festival! Another time was an event near Mt Fuji that was broadcast by local station. Very cool service.

vTuner is free to the end-user, while it is not free for OPPO to implement it into their hardware.

Still looks like the new players don't have IP control. Reproducing the remote on my android phone wasn't exactly what I had in mind and was hoping for with these new devices.
^ That Android app was released (as a Public Beta) for the 93/95, and although it will also work with the 103/105 it is constrained by what the 93/95 can do.

We'll just have to wait and see what OPPO comes up with for newer versions specifically geared towards the 103/105.

Once I get the 103, I will create a new one of these threads for the for the new player. I'm looking forward to finding out how many of these features will actually be in the 103.

I think they mean what OPPO should add to the BDP-103/105 or the future "BDP-113/115".

i wonder what might be int he works for the next players to come out after the 103/105

You're right. I responded very late/early. A speculative thread as opposed to an official one.redface.gif

Just placed my order for a new 103. Shipping on the 28th. Time for an owner's thread ?

I think we got some great ideas thanks to all the participation in this thread. Can we close this thread so we can start a new one for the 113? Some of the ideas in this thread are already implemented in the 103 and new features are available now that weren't even discussed in this.

Thanks

You need to PM a forum moderator if you're serious about that, or just use the red flag with a message.

However: no model # is listed in the title of this thread. Couldn't it continue, applying to possible future players?

I'm thinking, considering how many features have been addressed and how many generations are yet to come, the input will get lost in a sea of old feature requests. Some people posted some great ideas but they were so far based on the 93 oppos. When threads become too long people post the same things over and over and ask about things already addressed 10 pages back.

Thanks for the tip about letting the moderators know. You are correct, I should have stated in the title of this thread it was for the 103, I'll do better next time to avoid confusion.

^ I'm of mixed feelings whether a new thread would be better or not, but if the answer is to maintain and extend THIS thread, then I suggest you put a bold notice at the top of the first post (even better with a link) stating that discussion of feature wish lists for players subsequent to the OPPO 103/105 players begins with post # whatever, so it is easier for new readers to find their way past all the now outdated stuff.

As stated, just check with the mods and see what they suggest.

IIRC, it used to be that an OP of a thread could change the thread title, does that require a Mod to do it now?

Anyway, I kind of like the idea of continuing with this thread for the 113/115. Repetitive posts will happen irregardless, but I can see why a new thread is desired. We still have the Oppo BDP-83 DLNA thread for all DLNA stuff, and we can't even get the thread title changed, which causes all kinds of confusion to new Oppo owners.

I just checked with an ancient thread that I started waaaaaay back in 2006 and it's still possible to change the thread title. If you're the thread starter, there should be an "Edit Thread" link near the top of the page just under the thread title (there's a list of links including things like "xxx Unread Posts", "Subscribed", "Search This Thread", "Preferences", and the one we're looking for - "Edit Thread". If you click "Edit Thread", the thread title is editable. I just tested adding "TEST" to the title and then removing it and that worked.

With a bit of work in managing the first post, there's no reason this thread can't continue. As Bob suggested, adding a link to where discussion of the 103/105 has ended and discussion for the next round should start would be a big help. Additionally, maintaining a list of suggestions that have been made (and those that have been implemented, and when) in the first post would at least help keep the repetitive discussion to a minimum. The amount of work needed to maintain that list really isn't my concern biggrin.gif.

I haven't heard back from the moderators. Perhaps they want us to continue with this thread. I'll change the list if I don't hear back in another few days.

Thanks - since they seem to want to keep this thread alive, I took your advice and made it more specific to the 113 and 115. I changed the original post and covered the features I'd love on the 113 that are not available for the 103. I love my 103 but there is always something that can be improved.

Err....people are going to think 113 and 115 are real model numbers. We won't know that for a couple or years (I presume). I see confusion.

I agree - that is why I wanted to close this thread and start a new one but it is the thread that wouldn't die. I'm concerned so many people will read through this thread and say - that feature is already addressed in the 103. Or people saying you should get the 103 if that is the feature you want.

Here's a link to your post #498 that begins this new discussion:

Skip Over the Old Discussion Prior to OPPO's New BDP-103 and BDP-105 Players!

Quote this post (so you get the full link text), copy that link out of the quoted text, and paste it prominently near the top of your newly edited first post. Voila!

What features would you like in your next Oppo BR player - whatever models come after the 103 and 105 as these have already been released.

[STREAMING]
1. Give the option to rearrange the order of options for streaming. I always want folders and genre near the top as that is the way and most people I know organize their media. But not everyone will so let us arrange the order so it is faster for us to get to our media depending on how we organize. This may require Oppo to have their own streaming program like a slightly modified or modifiable Oshare.

2. Allow network playback of ISOs and VOBs.

3. Continue to improve the speed at which the network boots/locks on to the media server so you don't have to wait so long after booting to going to your network server for media.

4.  Allow for a streaming bookmark menu so you can easily and quickly go to specific folders for playback. If I'm halfway through a file on my PC, I'd like it to pick up where I left off like a DVD or Netflix do.

5.  Set an option for a default network streaming source and folder so I don't always have to tell it to go to computer1, oshare, video, folders, each time I want to go to my streaming computer. While some may have multiple computers and sources on those computers, I think the vast majority will stream from one of their network sources 99% of the time for the foreseeable future.

6. Give an option for SMB that has a specific folder share by IP\share so it can access it faster and more reliably and can be assigned to a button on the remote.

7. Allow it to save your SMB credentials even if it has trouble logging in so you don't have to retype that every time you make a modification to your PC.

8. Make chapter skip forward when you come to the end of a streamed video starts the next streamed video

[CONNECTORS]
9. Improve the wireless network card. Choose another Wifi supplier as my laptop can stream no problem in the same spot as my oppo can't without stuttering. My airport express bridged to my Airport extreme when connected via ethernet cable to the Oppo doesn't stutter either.   For Netflix the wifi supplied is OK.   For streaming 1080p with lossless audio from a PC the included Wifi is not functional.

10. Adopt 802.11ad for better range and faster throughput when streaming. Better for 1080p streamed content. 802.11ac devices are out this year, 802.11ad will be out in 2014 and is designed for HD streaming.

11. Make sure all the ports are USB 3.0 to power USB 3.0 drives.

12. Add an HDMI 2.0  out.

[CONTROLS]
12. Consider voice command like phones have so you can say "Netflix, show airplane" and it will show all the airplane movies you can pick from or "computer1, videos, folder, the mentalist, season 1" and it goes to that folder.

13. Give a web interface that let's you quickly modify all the same settings as the on screen interface but with options such as quick save so you can modify settings, save them, restore them etc.

14. Add keys to the remote for network folder shares so you can go straight to TV shows, Movies, Pictures or Music.  (Let the user assign what the keys go to - e.g. 4 music locations or 3 video locations and 1 music.

15. Make scrolling even faster perhaps 3x as fast when you hold it down for 2 seconds.

16. Give the ability to search your smb or dlna media by typing media name - e.g. Suits or White Collar - even better make it so you can search by more than one term - e.g. NCIS 3 (would search for all the media with both ncis and 3 in the name (not just NCIS OR 3)

17. Add support for wireless mouse. The keyboard is great for typing in text such as for youtube but then it would be use the mouse to easily hop to the right and scroll through the results.

I love my BDP-103 and 93 and ALWAYS recommend the Oppo players.  But in electronics there is always room for improvement. Oppo makes a BDP-105 that goes for about $1000 for audio aficionados. I'd be willing to pay $1000 for one designed for streaming aficionados.

This thread was started long before the 103 was released but since the thread lives on, I've updated the first post to cover things not available in the 103.   The first 17 pages are about features we were hoping they might include in the 103.

If anyone wonders why I have so much stuff about streaming it is because I LOVE streaming from my computer and I LOVE how great the Oppo makes it look. I have already begun to rip my DVDs and BR discs to my computer. It will save a TON of physical space when I'm done. I don't have space in my living room for my HT AND all of my discs. I can stream from my computer which is in a nearby room to my HT without putting in a single disc! I have a copy of my disc array just for safe keeping and it only will take about one 20th the physical space I'm using now for physical discs. The Oppo does a phenominal job of making my streaming look great so I want them to take all that goodness and tweak it a little further.

When I turn on my oppo after about 20 seconds I can get to my network folder. If I click too soon I have to start from scratch which is.
1. Press Home menu
2. Scroll across serveral buttons
3. Select network
4. Scroll and select the computer,
5. Scroll down and select video.
6. Scroll down and then folders.
7. Scroll down and then select the category (e.g. TV shows, movies, etc)
8. Scroll down and then I have to select the show, e.g NCIS
9. Scroll down and then the season, then the show.

If I could bookmark about 4 categories, e.g TV shows on computer1 (not that I stream from other computers), it would make my searches SOO much faster. I'd only need 2 steps to get to my video instead of 7. If the remote had a button I could either select to scroll through those bookmarks or select directly it would be great.

I just hooked up my logitech keyboard to my 103 and it makes using netflix and youtube great! If they expanded the ability of streaming from your PC to search for words it would improve that ten fold as well. E.g. instead of going to computer, video, by folder, tv, ncis, season 3, I could just type in NCIS 3 and it would search all my network media for files that had both NCIS and 3 in it it would be fantastic!

If we can get a cover art/metadata front end like MyMovies to work with the Oppo, would even better.

There is a thread about this on the MyMovies forum. May want to jump in..

I haven't seen that but Kaleidescape had that. While I'd love that, that would definitely require a mouse for it to be useful. I haven't been able to get my mouse to work with the Oppo yet but the keyboard really improves the experience although it is currently somewhat limited in functionality. I'm sure if a mouse can be used, Bob will let us know.

That's what I'm referring to. It would be like a K type system

I'm hoping to see if AnchorBay video chipset would come back into the player just like the 83 unit had!

Do they even make the chips anymore? http://www.anchorbaytech.com/ redirects to http://www.dvdo.com/ and I don't see a chip product line.

I have no clue!! I am under an assumption they still do because I notice Denon has a DBP-2012UDCI uses the ABT-2015 processor, but not sure if this is an old unit or not but it appears to be still in production.
