I'm using HDMI on my 5770 with the home cinema setting on BF3...what should be lighting up on my Pio receiver?
Should be PCM. My Radeons output PCM audio over HDMI.

Shouldn't be any crashes, BF3 hasn't crashed on me at all using Radeon 6870's. You might want to make sure your PC is 100% stable, perhaps if you have anything overclocked, you might want to consider backing it down some or raising some voltage.

As per my previous post, if you have any part of your PC overclocked, you probably want to lower it or raise voltage for stability.

Make sure you have your Windows sound settings to output 5.1 (or whatever your setup is) for that connection.

What FPS are you getting with your 5770? I'm using a 6770 and in mutliplayer I seem to get around 30. The benchmark said around 38. I haven't upgraded my drivers yet, hope it will help.

Maybe this is why I'm getting killed often. I changed my settings from high to medium and seemed to do better

I don't have anything oc. I dunno what it was but I restarted my computer and then the stability was fine.

Just before coming back here I figured that out...somehow Windows had been reset to stereo (not sure how)...now I get PCM...thanks...
Bf3 isn't crashing because of any OC. It's the actual games fault. Go look at the threads there are thousands of people with completely different rigs, all suffering from the same thing. I could barely play the beta because of the same issues. I've since seem to get it to work properly doing a ton of manual file editing but I shouldn't need to do any of that crap just to get a stupid game to work.

Everytime you upgrade AMD Radeon drivers, it defaults back to stereo ouput. You have to change your sound settings everytime you install new drivers if you're using a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.

I still believe most game crashes are due to unstable hardware. People seem to forget that overclocking and home built PC's are normal these days. People don't always know what they're doing when they build their own PC, and/or overclock their hardware and while their PC may be stable in some games, it may not be in others.

I'm just saying that I bet a lot of instability is more related to unstable hardware than the game itself. While I'm sure there may be random crashes that could be unrelated to hardware instability, I bet its not as common as hardware issues.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just saying that most people are playing just fine without any crashes so you can't just use a blanket statement and say its a game problem. I simply said you or anyone else for that matter may want to check your overclocks before blaming the game itself.

The new AMD drivers helps alot! I was getting around 30 FPS in multiplayer without the new drivers and after, I'm getting around 40 FPS. My game also improved, I'm now able to kill people

I was first in point with 9 K and 2 D, lots of defusing bomb points when the server disconnected me!!! WHYYYYYYYYY
post #163 of 406
Things finally came together for me yesterday, had a good opportunity to put in some time in game. I unlocked some better scopes and finally figured out how to really use claymores and then started having some 10/2 rounds and finishing in the top 3 on the team, which gets you another ribbon worth more points.

Then I unlocked the UMP, and set it up under recon and added the sprint perk. This only worked well on certain maps, but with that build I was hauling around killing more people than I have yet, although I was dying a lot as well. If you are a COD player and this is your first BF game, like it was for me, the UMP has a great "feel" to it.

Good article on HardOCP site about affect of video settings on BF3.
Great article. Looks like I should be able to play the game near 60 fps average with max FSAA @1080P when my video card comes in tomorrow. The close up pics really explain a lot about the setting options in BF3.

Tinker just turn it off. Go to the little "i" on your origin screen where BF3 icon is and turn the sucker off. You only need it if you plan on using your game on multiple pc's.

Well it is possible but Dice did come right out and say the crashing error is on their end. There is a huge thread on it in the origin forums almost 7.5K people.

I'm not what you would call the hardcore multiplayer type but the BF series is one of the few I really enjoy. Problem is I think I have just a casual interest in that mass of data that is displayed on the screen and I think I would be a better player if I understood it all. Can anyone recommend a guide that takes you through the multiplayer GUI and explains what all the symbols and numbers mean? Google has not been much help.

Things are getting better for me since I updated my driver, I even got the mvp ribbon 3 games in a row

Now I just need to work on my jet and heli skills...

I've still had no stability issues with the game - I get a solid 60FPS with everything a max, vsync on, 1920x1080. My issue is that trying to join friends is pretty useless. It's hard enough to even get on their team, never mind in their squad- is there a trick to it?

It's hit or miss. What I find works the best is don't join on them, just click on their server and join it like that. Half the time you don't even get on the same team anyways and for my pc, it just works better and faster like that. Though I do have friends who have no problems what so ever join on me.

Weird, never had any issues with my brother.

What we do is create a party before joining a server and then join the server as a party, they always put us on the same team and then we create our own squad.

I got in an hour or so of single player action yesterday once I got my new gaming rig setup (Hard difficulty). While the game looks stunning (avg. 55-60 fps, max FXAA no MLAA @1080P) I have to say, my early impressions of the gameplay structure is very poor so far. I can't remember a solo campaign of a FPS that is designed as badly as this so far.

The story is competent enough; bad guys are out there, so go get 'em. I'm fine with the traditional whack-a-terrorist sections as well. The controls are smooth, the animation and SFX are truly top notch.

Where it has fallen apart thi early on is how EXTREMELY narrow some of the game play scenarios force you to play. I hate the QTE sequences so far which don't fit FPS games at all IMHO. The input commans for them don't make any sense at all. Why am I hitting the jump button (space bar) to battle? Why then does it switch to mashing left mouse button? There is no logic at all.

That's minor though. What really upset me is how you are forced to play certain scenes EXACTLY how they designed it with no deviation. I am literally stuck on the

secure the walk bridge with the machine gun scene. A dozen times I've run up, grabbed the machine gun and tried to stay alive only to get rocketed 1-3 seconds later. I know there is a special way to play it out, but it isn't obvious and you can't approach the scene in a different way (i.e. sneak attack from under the bridge)

When I get back from my trip I'll go at it again, but that kind of design is not fun at all. Hopefully that type of nonsense is rare.

I quit the sp at the same pt. It does not matter if you try under the bridge, the bad guys didn't seem to appear until you get on to the bridge...maybe I am wrong on this. Just got so fustrated at that over pass trying to get the LMG that I quit.

I quited about halfway through where the game literally prevented me from continuing my game (Russian mission; cause my AI partner is a total moron ).

The multiplayer, like almost everyone wll tell you, is where it's at!

(P.S. My game still frequently crashes, not as much in multiplayer)

Anybody else find the new BF3 maps boring????. They just lack the character of the maps in BF2. Now waiting for those revised/updated BF2 maps to come in Dec. Also getting real fustrated with the connection issues with BF3. Sometimes no issues and the other times the system seems to go off line with server disconnect.
