HDHomerun Prime Owners Thread - Page 50

Sorry... regret it was the wrong word to use. I'm just bummed out. It doesn't seem that there's any hope for encrypted cable in the future. I guess I should start hoarding xbox 360's?

Edit: I guess another way to look at is is that hopefully encrypted cable will be a thing of the past when my hardware starts dying and there will be internet based subscriptions.

Dafuq? You and I watched two entirely difference Xbox One reveals then because what I saw was a program that M$ felt was so important it became part of the OS rather than a program add-on. I'm stoked with what the new console will bring. The ability to swap between programs within seconds was incredible and will only lend to the experience that we are currently signed up with.

You watched what you wanted to then. There will be no Windows Media Center extender functionality. It will work with your cable box via an hdmi cable, you can't put it in a different room and connect it via ethernet to your htpc.

Xbox One doesn't look like it will be cheap anyways.

Thing is huge, so it may not be the ideal extender.

They did say Xbox 360 is still a "vibrant" platform or something like that. Probably don't want current sales to crater.

But maybe they will shrink it down and cut the price on it more.

That isn't what you said.

It doesn't say it "does" WMC but thet doesn't mean it "doesn't" do it.

Exactly. That's my point. This guy is saying it like it's fact when all he's doing is guessing. Unless you know something is indeed a fact and can back it up with source info then don't present something like it's fact in a thread that isn't even about that.

As as if the One ha anything to do with whether or not you keep your Prime.. as if if the One didn't have extender functionality its time to throw in the towel on using a CableCARD tuner.

Ok let me rephrase again. The Xbox one might have extender capabilities the same way the ps4 might as neither of them have said they won't have it.

Thank you for deciding what I should do. What worries me is that the prime depends on wmc, wmc is dead. No more certifications, no more updates, dead. So what you have is what you get. We're depending on abandoned technology as nobody seems to want to develop a replacement as the licensing is too costly.

It works and I'm not going to stress about it 'til it doesn't. I have other things to worry about.

Maybe the Xbox One will be able to stream HDHomerun content via DLNA given that Windows Media Player is a DLNA client. I'm just throwing that out there.

Good point. It is clear that MS is positioning Xbox One as much more than a gaming device. They're targeting a broader entertainment market. I for one am excited to find out more about its capabilities in coming months and I'm a longtime Mac user without an Xbox!

Either way, I do believe that Windows 7 and Media Center will live on for years to come. There are still people getting by with XP more than 10 years later and there is a healthy supply of Xbox 360s in the wild as well.

You do know that Microsoft makes Windows as well as the Xbox, right? What incentive does Sony have to make the PS4 work with windows in the way WMC currently does? Your arguments are silly at best.

"Windows Media Center is dead"

Really? Again.... source?

I think people are just tired of your 'sky is falling' posts in a thread that's nothing about that. Perhaps you should go post in an Xbox One thread or take some deep breaths and wait to freak out until we know what the specifications are actually going to be. If you're that freaked out just keep your Xbox 360. Problem solved. Sheesh.

They also made no mention of in-game party chat and demonstrated Skype so naturally your reaction is that that function is now dead too, right? Doubtful.

Get a grip.
