Not sure about the Samsung, but I still have a DVR and another cable box. I archive a good amount of content, so that was my reason for acquiring a Prime. (Fortunately, most content is 'Copy Freely' here.)
Some reasons I have not gone all in with extenders, etc. to replace Comcast hardware to date:
1) No support for On Demand Content without having cable box. Looked into the Xbox VOD for Comcast and it sounded inferior in many ways (video quality, content selection, not to mention needing a Gold account). No gamers in my house so we would have to buy a console as well. My provider has a ton of content On Demand including lots of Movies which I wouldn't want to wait to air and record, but may want to watch on a whim.
2) Wife acceptance factor in general (she uses On Demand more than I do and would have to learn a new system).
3) Comcast remote scheduling via Web and smart phone is very convenient and easy to use if I find out about something I want to record when I'm away. (I know this possible with WMC, but that would be yet another thing to configure.)
