Yes, it's inverted. It happened to fit almost perfectly where my prior projector sat (had to move it over about a foot to be in the middle of my screen), fortunately my Omnimount swivels that far. Those 'feet' are actually rubber door stops. You can get them in a 2 pack (about $3.50/pack) from Lowes (where I got them) or any hardware type store. They worked out extremely well. could you share your calibration settings with ND2 ?

i am wondering if i can use 3010 projector with 1.3 gain screen. will it be too bright for it? it is too bright what stuff i have to buy for it to make not to bright??

My screen is also 1.3 and I was concerned before I got my 3010 about the same thing. Relax, it'll look great. My throw is 14 1/2' and the screen is 120" diagonal/16:9. It is bright but NICE bright. I did tone down the saturation & brightness a bit for 2D but it looks outstanding to me and 3D is great as well.

i read that it has alot of crosstalk ( ghosting) on 3d movies. does it has alot of ghosting when u watch 3d movies?

I am planning on getting a bookshelf and have the projector inverted on the top shelf. This would work great.

I've watched two 3D movies (Tangled , Tron Legacy) and haven't noticed any ghosting.

I've watched a number of 3D movies (all Bluray) and they ONLY time I've experienced ghosting was when using Blick glasses. NO ghosting detected using Epsons, 3rd generation Panasonic and now PS3 glasses.

Can anyone tell me if they had to purchase a screen for the epson in the $400-$700 range which would be the best screen for the epson 3010? I've researched until my head is spinning... My room is a 16' x 15' media room but open in the back with an arch to a game room/bar. No direct sunlight hits the room except for maybe an hour in a day. However, until I get curtains there is no truly pitch black darkness until night time. What gain is ideal for the 3010 without overly restricting the viewing angle as when I have sports on and people in the game room/bar I would like them to be able to see from virtually any vantage point. I saw a fair bit of ghosting when I had the 3010. I've heard that certain units suffer from it a bit more than others. It was easiest to see on Lion King 3D, due to the high contrast edges on objects.

I haven't seen the 5010 yet but I demoed the 3010 today in 3D and noticed a light flickering effect when I moved my eyes across the image. Besides that I thought the 3D was very good, I can definately see myself getting into 3D now. If the 5010 proves to have a more stable image in 3D then I think I will spare the expense and get that one.

I got a Focupix 120", 16:9, 1.3 gain electric screen from htdepot.com 2 years ago that at the time was something like $450 delivered and thought that was a deal. Would it be the "best"? Maybe not but I'm completely satisfied with mine. NEVER had any wrinkles or waves and it's quiet in operation. It's also used with my Viewsonic Pro8100.
Now comes the good part. From looking at photos & specs I'm convinced that the Favi screens are the same identical ones with a different brand decal. Up until last week the 120" Favi was under $200 delivered from Amazon, however last I looked it had climbed $150. I looked on ebay and found it from the same vendor for under $250 delivered. Hey, I'm a retired old fart and gotta do something with my time, lol.
I'm FAR from an expert but I don't believe you can beat these screens in a "budget" category. BTW, Trust me, under the circumstances you describe you'll have a nice bright picture with the 3010--NO problem.

So I have had my projector for over a week now and so far so good. I did some adjustments to the projector using an Orbtronix probe and got my picture looking pretty good. Out of the box with Cinema the color was a tad warm so I had to make adjustments. My Epson 8100 looked good out of the box and required minor adjustments.

Overall I am pretty happy with the new purchase and I really enjoy the 3d. The picture is much brighter than my 8100 which adds a little more wow factor to the experience. I miss the XV color mode the 8100 had. I used it on the animated movies my gal and I watch together. Not a huge deal.
I also can't transmit 12 bit deep color with my Panasonic blu ray with this projector as I get sparkles in the image. I did not have this issue with the 8100 but once again not a big deal.

We are going to watch Transformers in 3d this weekend and I can't wait. We saw it in theaters and it was a awesome sight. Lets see how it stacks up at home.

Just a follow up to my comment. I managed to demo the 5010 today and experienced the same problem, alot of flickering and generally an unstable looking image, infact it was much worse this time round, it was different setup and movie though, I guess some content is worse others. I read that the 5010 was better at 3D but in my case apparently not.

Happy to report that in the last few days I've watched a ton of 2D movies on the 3010 and now I rarely hear the clicking of the auto iris and if I do hear it, it's during either a quiet scene in the movie or when I'm going back to the main menus on the movie.

i got my 3010 few days ago along with a 2d to 3d converter the monoprice one hey have it at amazon for 100 or somthing it works with my bluray player/suround sound but i cant seem to get it to work with my xbox 360 with the conversion to me it was pritty good not as good as native of course but it still looked good i only watched one movie with it spiderman 3. i am goin to hook up my cable box to it and see if it will convert that to but so far out of xbox 360, pc, and blu ray player only the bluray worked has anyone tryed the converter and got it to work? and also this projector is awsome i just love how bright it is i can have lights on and still see it good.

epson 3010 chip D7 or D9?

I have the epson mounted on the ceiling by a professional. I am projecting onto a 110" screen located 15 feet from the screen.

I am seeing that the images are grainy. I played the movies 300 and No country for old men ( both blu ray ) thru my sony ps3 ( SLIM ). some of the scenes look OK/good but some of them have too many pixels.

I opened a ticket with Epson and some one worked with me and decided that I need a smaller screen and said that as a first time projector owner I am expecting too much from the projector. He says that even more expensive pjs like 5010/6010 will have the grainy ness. Just want to make sure that I check with the community here before I decide to swap the unit.

BTW the first day pj was very loud but settled down quite a bit after a days worth of use.

I have been watching a lot of SD DVDs (which are supposed to be grainy and pixelated compared to blurays)...but my 3010 produces impeccable image without any grain on my 120" screen...ion contrast the Acer 9500 was very grainy even on blurays...you may have a defective unit ?

I need to get my projector up and on the ceiling... I want the image to be 6" down from the ceiling (~ 1" under a crown molding). I need a mount that is:

- Low profile
- Universal (if I replace the 3010)
- Can hide cables
- White in color
- ~ $50 max

Low profile is important because I have crown molding at the top but also wainscoting at the bottom of my wall (I plan to project on the wall itself) so any drop in image height means a reduction in image size overall.

Would the Mustang MV-PROJSP-FLAT work? It's tough to find the exact dimensions.

Other recommendations? I could hack a Monoprice mount too but from the reading here it seems that this ends up at about the same kind of price as this Mustang?

I'm disappointed in the 3010. I currently have a Sony VPL-VW40 and while the picture the 3010 delivers is a good bit brighter the resolution of the VW40 is much better then the 3010. I can not see the pixels of the VW40 till I'm 2' from the screen and never see jaggies but with the 3010 I can see pixels from my seat 10'+ away in some bright areas and often see jaggies. The 3d I must say is a plus but since there is so little 3d content now I think it's going back and I will wait a while and see what the next generation of PJ offer. The 5010 has the same display engine doesn't it? So I wouldn't gain much by going to the next level of PJ?

Just a FYI--The movie 300 is a very "grainy" movie-period, irregardless of what pj one might have. My memory ain't so hot anymore but seems to me that No Country might have been a bit grainy as well. I'd try a couple more movies.
I've got a 3010 shooting 14 1/2' to a 120", 1.3 gain screen and I've not detected any "graininess". Excellent pq for ME. I also have a much higher end pj that was originally 5K MSRP, a Viewsonic Pro8100, so I think I know what a decent picture looks like. Is the 3010 as good? No, but it's VERY good! Just my UNprofessional opinion, lol.

Just to chime in here as well. Movies shot on film (or movies made to look like shot on film) will have grain. Some more than others- it's an "artistic" choice. Some of this grain is really only visible when you're seeing a quality high-definition large projection, because otherwise it's too small to notice.

Complaining about this grain is somewhat akin to complaining about people's skin having pores. HD makes some people look ugly because all of the sudden you have the resolution to see that their makeup is poorly applied, their hair piece is totally fake, and their skin is blotchy. Low resolution/and/or/small sceens prevented you from seeing all of this before... now you see it.

Not everyone likes to see grain, but it's a part of film.

However, you might be complaing about poor resolution. Depending on your signal source (crappy cable or satellite) a big sharp picture will have the same effect as above. All of the sudden you can see how crappy it is. But if you're watching a nicely detailed blu ray or other HD source and you think it's still too pixelated... there could be something wrong with your setup. Maybe it's your PJ, maybe it's the cables you're using (HDMI?) or something else. But you should be blown away by your 3010 projecting 110" inches.

My 3010 was finally delivered last night. Took me no more than 5 minutes to unpack and place it on the back wall shelf, upside down (replaced 8350). NBA was on cable and the image looked very good right away with no adjustments (Cinema mode). I did take out the WOW disk and adjusted a bit, but it didn't need much.

I have to say, I think the 3010 looks better or at least as good as the 8350. Maybe my particular 8350 didn't focus as well as it should, but the 3010 looks sharper (I can see text better in WOW sharpness screen).

I am using a 120" High Contrast Gray 0.8 gain screen, so I think that really helps with black levels and with 3010 being a brighter projector, the picture to me looks better.

The images do not seem grainy and I don't see pixels. I also do not hear the iris at all (the projector is 3-4 feet above my head). I am using Cinema and Eco mode. I checked the convergence screen and while it is not perfect, I see the red line maybe 1/2 a pixel to the right of others, but from 12 feet, it looks good.

Decided to try 3D (I have the panasonic player and Avatar). At first, just could not get it to work, came coming up in 2D. Changed the panasonic to side by side and the image came up side by side, but of course I realized that is not what I want. Full HD is the right setting, but it wasn't clear, it says to use it for 2D, so was confused a bit, but finally figured it out. I am using a 15 foot monoprice (not high speed) cable from a few years ago and a monoprice HDMI splitter (I have a plasma and projector and only one HDMI out). I was afraid it was the old cable, but turned out to be the HDMI splitter. I connected the projector directly to my receiver (Denon 891) and 3D started working. I then put the HDMI splitter back in, and it continued to work. What i figured out is that if HDMI splitter is there when I start the blu ray, it does not recognize 3D, but if I use it after 3D is recognized, it seems to work fine. Strange. Ordered the new 3D HDMI pro splitter from monoprice for $50, which looks just like my old one, just with 3D (I guess the old one is going to be posted for sale soon), so that should solve this issue, I hope.

I watched Avatar a bit with both Epson glasses and PS3 glasses. They seem about the same, not much difference. The PS3 glasses are large and I seem to get a slight reflection of what is behind me in the lower side of the lenses. When movie started though, I forgot about it, so maybe not a big deal.

I was worried that 0.8 gain would be an issue, not sure about that yet though. Avatar is a dark movie, but seemed just fine. It will take some time to adjust to watching 3D movies at home on a large screen. Will have to rent another 3D movie to make sure.

Overall, pretty happy so far (mostly that I don't have any obvious issues). But I only spent a couple of hours with it. Will try a few more disks later tonight.

I hope Mike2cents is reading this, as he always maintains that 8350 is far superior to 3010
