My Epson 3010 projector just arrived! - Page 5

Yes, yes and yes. We have a setup in the downstairs living room that consists of a 55" Samsung LED 3D tv, Onkyo 609 receiver and Panasonic BDT210. Polk Audio speaker setup. Upstairs is a dedicated (yet humble) HT room with NHT 7.1, 110" Carada Criterion screen, Optoma HD20, Harman Kardon AVR 354, power Berkline recliners (two rows with riser in the back), etc. This is where I want the 3D! Rearrange some components, buy some new ones if need be, and I'm on my way. Lots of 3D movies as we have two kids (Megamind, Monsters vs. Aliens, Despicable Me, etc.). My wife and I do a good amount of gaming as well. MK9 in 3D on the PS3 will be something to remember (I hope)...

Excellent. I read in the JVC RS40 thread that Monsters vs Aliens exhibits tons of ghosting. This might be a great movie to pop in and try.

is it possible the movie itself is it at fault for bad 3D crosstalk?

Well, not necessarily crosstalk, no - unless they actually have part of one eye's image embedded in the data for the other eye, which would be pretty far down the path of negligence. But they might have scenes that your eyes can't make sense of because of bad convergence or separation, in which case it could be at fault for ghosting. not left-eye-seeing-right-eye ghosting, but double-image because your perception is unable to resolve the 3d ghosting. I haven't seen it, though, so I can't say one way or the other

so you have no 3D crosstalk issues with it? The cine4home preview seemed to say the 480hz panels helped 3D, hard to tell because it's english translatoin provided by google was horrendous in some parts

Seems like the 0 offset top edge holds nice and steady, the rest of the image just expands below and around the sides. Which is how it should be

Black screen increases contrast ratio for projectors that are very bright, they do not reflect much light anywhere but light directly hitting it from the projector, and are hence very good at ambient light viewing and night time viewing.

That screen is amazing! Other than price, is there a downside?

i saw that last night. you can see the dynamic iris going off in planet earth's short scene they show, i hope that's more of a camera oddity - but the older epson's were the same - they took a few seconds to lock the dynamic iris in.

actually i ordered and it shipped within 30 minutes. now..on to some bluray player that can give me lossless audio (since i hear PS3 can't do that).

wow after seeing that im wondering if the panny 7000 is worth double the price. Id be upgrading from a panny 900u so im sure id be happy either way

First, please dont get me wrong....am very thankful to sprocket for taking time to post videos for us....but the image quality as seen in the videos is nothing to be excited about

I don't understand why people go crazy over screen shots. Mind you, those pics look amazing to me too.....but I'm viewing them on an Epson 720, so you figure out what that means! Unless the resolution is very high or it is an extreme close up AND you are viewing it on the SAME PJ that the image is photographed from how is it helpful at all? Mind you, a pic of two PJs being displayed at the same time may have value as you can see which one would have better black levels.

Sprocket, how black is the black in the dark? That is, displaying a dark scene/image in 2.4:1 looking at the projected black bars.

agree that pictures are not necessarily thousand words in judging PJ quality as a lot depends on how good the camera is and how good the display is. However folks here seem to be excited about what ever little sprocket has put out and so trying to see if can be kind enbough to post some still images.

having said that, a crappy PJ (like the 720 cousins ) will look crappy on stills.

The problem is any 1080p PJ is going to look awesome with the content he chose. Monster's Inc, Toy Story, Baraka? Have you seen any of those? Those are reference images man. I routinely show a bug's life and ratatooie for image clarity, color definition, and composition when people come over and watch the jaws drop. I mean they don't drop to the floor but their mouths are in awe and people get speechless!

I'm not saying Optoma is a bad choice, I may still get one to play with it (just to see DLP vs LCD difference). But there are reputations for each company out there.

Yes, you need comparison shots. You can make a good projector look bad, but I don't think you can make a bad projector look good (unless you do image enhancement). It's very difficult to take pictures of a projected image in the first place, but you CAN see the ambient light reject capabilities in Sprocket's video. That type of stuff can most definitely can be seen in pictures/video, and is one reason he sold me on it.

We're talking about fairly cheap projectors here, but massive bang for the buck. My home theater PJ is MSRP 10-12K. I tell people all the time they can have 85% of that image for 1-1.5K. Diminishing returns and based on environment.

There are a lot of variables involved
- camera quality
- camera picture compression
- compression of the image before uploading ta a website
- quality & calibraton of the monitor used to view the uploaded image

If we are talking about a video, instead of an image, variables involved are even higher (and compressions even greater).

You can no more judge the quality of speakers using a mp3 recording of those spreakers, playing heard thr' cheap headphones, than you can use youtube pictures to judge the quality of a PJ.
