My Epson 3010 projector just arrived! - Page 8

I ordered mine off a reseller that shipped it the exact same day I ordered it. He had 15 in stock when I bought mine so if anyone wants the info PM me.

Mine will be here Fri and I will do an indirect comparison against the HD33 since it was my last projector that I owned (sold it last week.)

I am interested in the HD33 and 3010. What's your reason for selling the HD33 ?

Can anyone here with a 3010 clear this up for me? Art mentions CFI or PureMotion creative frame interpolation in his review of the 3010 as a special feature on the first page, but mentions later on that the 3010 lacks CFI.

This has me confused. Can someone that has one verify whether or not the 3010 has CFI?

I am almost positive that the CFI is only on the 5010 and 6010. Not the 3010. There is no mention of PureMotion or CFI in the 3010 manual.

Ok, that makes sense. Now that I look at Art's review of the HD33, the section on CFI is word for word identical to that section in the review for the 3010 besides replacing HD33 with 3010.

I highly doubt epson and optoma both trademarked "Pure Motion" so I will just assume that it is an error and that section isn't meant to be there in the 3010 review.

Question. I have a epson 6500UB Home Cinema projector. Would it be worth it if i upgrade it to the 3010? I mean i like 3D alot and i have a dark home cinema with 0% light. I love the 6500UB which produces a great 2D picture on my 110" Carada Brilliant White Screen.

Would it be worth the upgrade to this model? Also will my current screen work?

Personally, I would consider the Epson 5010 as you would be an ideal candidate to take advantage of the improved contrast which will result in deeper blacks and a better overall image.

Because these new Epsons are light cannons, your screen will be fine for 3D. No need to get a high gain screen with such a bright picture.

Do you know if the Epson glasses have the 'light - normal - dark' settings that the Panny glasses have?
If they turn out to not be compatible with the 3010/5010 then I wonder what the effective 'added lumens' are in light mode on the Panny glasses?? Would it make up for the lumen difference between the two projectors, Epson being 2400 compared to 2000?? Not sure if I'm making myself clear

Nothing I've seen in the epson documentation mentions light/normal/dark mode, so my guess is no. The lumen ratings, though, are likely all just raw lumen numbers, regardless of 3d or glasses, so that probably does not relate to the glasses mode.

I am waiting on the RS45's to come into stock and need a secondary projector for my gaming room so I've been playing around with all the new 3D projectors. I had never owned a 1080p DLP projector before so I wanted to test it vs. LCD and LCOS to see what the fuss was. The offset was too great for the projector and did not provide enough zoom range to fill my 140" screen or my secondary 120" screen. The puremotion feature was bad (IMO) and the color accuracy out of the box needed a lot of help.

Having had the HW30 Sony and the HD33 at the same time I was pretty unimpressed with the HD33 but kept it because I sold my Sony first. Granted this really wasn't a fair fight because of the price difference, and 2D aside, I just didn't think the 3D offered from the HD33 was any better than the Sony to be honest. I am looking forward to seeing the 3010 in action on Friday and have a good number of 3D movies to watch and the new Batman game in 3D.

Really, the Sony had better 3d? I cannot wait for your 3010 review. Subscribing or will you be starting a new thread? I could always take that inadequate HD33 off your hands before you take a bath on it. Just PM me a good price I cannot refuse on it and maybe we can both be happy campers.

Well I was really anxious about this projector, but this contradiction about the 3D quality makes me wonder if I should go for this projector. Hope this will be resolved..

My dealer told me today, that the delivery is delayed ET-TW5900/6000 in Europe, in view of some technical problems

The image that the Sony throws is just amazing for out of the box, hook it up and use compared to the HD33 which requires tinkering. I did not invest a ton of time in the calibration of the HD33 because I knew I was returning it due to the offset so it is an apple-to-oranges comparison. For $1499 it is a good projector and I am excited to see how the 3010 stacks up to it. The one I really enjoyed about the Sony was the ability to decrease/increase the 3D depth which helped eliminate ghosting or crosstalk in the rare occasions it popped up.

I was mistaken in my earlier comment, I have owned DLP projectors before (many 720p 3D ones) I just had never owned a true 1080p one before the HD33.

I don't think many projectors will beat DLP for 3D crosstalk as it is pretty much the current standard in which all the other technologies are graded against. If you are primarly buying for 3D you might want to look elsewhere if this is a huge concern, but I can't imagine the Epson looking any worse than the HD33 for 2D and it is also one of the brightest projectors out for 3D which is a huge plus.

Did you read all of Art's review? I think the unit faired very well for its price tag. This sums it up nicely: "What it offers instead, is a close to best picture for the money, and just about double the brightness of all but one or two competitors." I like Art's projector reviews because he takes his time with them and does real measurements instead of rushing to get reviews out (ahem, PC..)

I will let you know tomorrow how the ghosting/crosstalk is as I have a lot of 3D material I can throw at the Epson.

I did read Art't review, and based on that info alone I would buy this projector in a heartbeat, can't wait for your input.

Currently I own a Sanyo PLV-Z3000 and like to upgrade to a 3D solution, but I don't want to lose on 2D quality. That's my concern with the H33 and the Epson EH-TW6000/3010.

I might dislike the H33 for is lesser black's that's why I lean towards the Epson for 2D but I am concerned for the Epson's brightness since I have a dedicated dark room.

So I hope Epson will bring a light power edition for this model.
Anyway if I were able to convince my Wife..to spend 3K I would own a Panny now :P.

I'm thinking about picking up the 3010 for my first projector. However I won't be using the 3D capabilities. Are there better 2D only projectors for the same cost? I'm having trouble finding comparisons since this is such a new product.

I'll be using a white monoprice 106" screen if it makes a difference.

I've a HD3300 now - andI'm toying with the idea of selling it to get 3010, since it works better setup-wise for me. But having usind 3010 for a month, I don't want to get 3010 if it is significantly worse in 3D.

Ok firstly im in the UK and have been saving up for an optoma hd 33, i actually ordered it on tuesday only to get a message on Wednesday that its out of stock and to give the place of purchase a call.
Meanwhile Arts review of the Epson3010 arrives and he gives it such a glowing review i decide that when i call the shop about my hd 33 order, ill switch it and get an Epson 3010 instead. Which is apparently due in stock here on the 26th.
Now it was the brightness that really turned me on with the epson as i have just sold an Acer h5360 on which i thought the 3d was crosstalk free, but in combination with the lumens drop in 3D mode and 3D Vision glasses got too dark for my liking.
Now just before i was about to make the call to change my order from the hd33 to the epson 3010 i read the other review and was totally put off by the mention of crosstalk and flicker in 3D mode.
Now i am just plain confused! Unfortunately there is nowhere near me to get an eyes on of both projectors and make my choice that way which would be preferable,so i am totally reliant on reviews and peoples forum opinions.
Ive told the shop im buying from to not charge my credit card but to contact me when stock of the hd 33 comes in which is estimated to be Monday 24th October at which point ill choose either the hd33 or the epson 3010.
So please could we get a definitive answer on this aspect of the 3010 as i dont want to pay
3 times as much to go from a PJ with no crosstalk (Acer h5360) to one with.Thank you.

I have had my eyes on the 3010 (TW6000 her in Aus) and i have ordered one last week. Delivery is due mid oct early nov.

Apparently my order is first in the next batch to be shipped here.

If i get it soon (Hope i will) i will help people answer any questions they have. Keep in mind though that I am no expert, just the average guy like sprocket.

I dont think crosstalk will bother me. I can see crosstalk when i pay to see a movie at the cinema anyway so its what im use to .

Cant wait to game on this thing
