Vizio e320va display is dark

post #1 of 3

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I purchased this set a few months ago for my parents and my father commented that the screen now looks darker than usual.

I checked it out and it does seem pretty dark to me on both cable and with DVDs.

I've checked the light sensor, etc. and all of the default picture settings (game, store, movie, etc.) and is still stays pretty dark. I finally just really brightened the "custom" settings.

My father seems satisfied, but I really don't think it's close to accurate.

Any suggestions?

Vizio E320VA 32" LCD HDTV (bought at Costco Jan 2012)

Optimal Picture Settings / Calibrations

Ambient Light Sensor = OFF
Picture Mode = CUSTOM
Backlight = 71
Brightness = 63
Contrast = 26
Color = 48 - 52
Tint = 0 (ZERO)
Sharpness = 40
Noise Reduction = OFF
More > Color Temperature = CUSTOM
>Red Gain = 65
>Green Gain = 64
>Blue Gain = 71
Color Enhancement = OFF
Adaptive Luma = OFF
DCR = OFF

I was ready to throw out this TV until I spent hours getting these settings right. I placed it next to my 42" 3yr old Samsung Plasma (cloaked as Emerson from Walmart '09) as a comparison. After the I applied these settings the picture blew my mind... it now looks better than my plasma. CRAP! If you can get the picture settings better than this please advise here. I will check back regularly. BTW, these are the only settings on the net as of this time.
