Chinadog's Tennessee Theater!

Some background:

For those of you that don't know me, this is my second personal theater build. My first theater was the Blazing Ridge Cinema (now approaching 1M views!), which I started back in late 2004. I finished out the whole basement as well. It was a great learning experience and I had a lot of fun doing it. As I posted into that build thread, I got great support and met so many people through the AVS family. I even managed to start a side business with Jason (jikkjack) and we built out several theaters. In 2011, I had a job opportunity in Knoxville, TN and went for it. I found a great house, with a finished basement close to work, that actually had a "media" room already completed. I started from there.....

Part Deux.

Waiting for the old house to close, its suppose to happen at the end of the month. Although I probably won't start construction right away, I can start thinking and planning. The wife wants to do a few things upstairs before we can get real busy with the theater and the rest of the basement.

Stay tuned.

Bud

Like the others, I am looking forward to this build. Was blown away by your theater on the Home Theater Revealed DVD and imagine that this one is going to be even better. Hope all goes well with the house. Greg

Subscribed! Your original thread was one that I sort of cut my teeth on when it came to room construction. Nastolgia and all.... I wish you a great adventure with this new room.

Not sure I'd do any of the above. Great area, isn't it though? Just found Wilderness in the Smokies yesterday online. The kids are going to have a blast there. Have not don't the Dollywood thing yet and we actually haven't been up to the Smokies yet since we tend to go to our cabin in Blue Ridge, GA. We did go to the TN/GA game at UT. What a great place to see a game.

Good luck!

And that's ALL I'm going to say. We all know what happens once I get involved and you haven't even started yet.

SO, good luck.

And I'll be watching.

THERE. THAT'S all I'm going say.

...and you too, Bud!

Ah, the process begins. Version 2.0 in a new place. Very cool. Looking forward to watching the journey. I'm guessing that since Logan has entered so soon into the fray it's anybody game and now progress has gone backwards before it has even started.

Good luck with all of the closing processes.

Preview: I went downstairs with my iPhone to give you an idea of what I've got to work with. The video quality is crap and it looks like pretty bland. Well, it is. I've got some work to do obviously.

The room is below the foyer and the dining room this time. Not sure about isolation and if I want to attempt anything with it. Double drywall? Maybe. Dunno. The house has uses trusses, so I should have any issues running wire, but may has issues running conduit.

Based on his public profile, he's been online this month, but he hasn't posted since sometime in July.

Bpape consulted on the current project I'm working on (Bacon Race Theater) and provided items such as the cotton insulation. His Web site is down however. If you need contact information PM Damelon.

Bpape is still active over at HTS, but less so here lately. Best of luck on the new build Bud.

Some photos to add to the thread.

Outside the theater. The door stopper thingie on the hinge actually punctured a hole in the door (hollow) on the upper right side. Ideally, I want to replace these doors with solid doors. Hopefully I'll be able to find a similar style.

Right side as you walk through the doors. Two switches with dimmers on right, will have to figure out my electrical plans. I'll have to do some demolition for sure to change the electrical around, add power for the projector, conduit, etc. I'll need to think about the automation aspects of things, integration with the lighting, etc.

Left wall and door into the concession/equipment area. The door is a challenge because of the platform situation. I'm glad it's in the back this time, but with the length of the room, I may have to do something different.

Concession/equipment area looking back to the door. Will likely put an equipment closet in that corner there.

Bar area. Nothing exciting here, but a decent size and workable.

Rest of the space. I'm thinking about a industrial or loft type of feel here, maybe doing a few walls in brick veneer, tearing out the carpet of r a wood floor or something like that.

That's it for now.

Sweet! Looking forward to watching and following this one. Is there one specific thing you really want to do here that you didn't get to in the other place?
Wow, that is actually a really nice space to begin with. As stated by others really looking forward to watching the journey. That space has lots of potential for sure.

Hey Warren,

I don't really have one thing that I truly longed for, per se. I did want to incorporate some sort of columns into the theater and some warm woods. Haven't thought too much about it yet. I have some ideas for upstairs though that I'd want to tie the theater room into the overall look of the house. Still a lot to think about.
