$1500 subwoofer request - 19x17x18ft high.

What subwoofer is recommended for a 19x17x18 room (open to kitchen) for $1500 budget?

Secondary room and does not need to be end-all, just want something to rock for video games. I don't want to DYI.

I had my real theater's sub (epik conquesT) in there and it was definitely enough (lol). I was thinking of Epik Dual Empires, one in each front corner.

What other subs to consider?

Thanks,
ELmO

Epik Empires is hard to beat especially the price of a pair. I think you'd be hard press to find another sub that is within budget that you could get pairs of.

You said in another thread you had SVS's and upgraded to something else so the PB12NSD is the only one in your price range for a pair.

Axiom EP350 under performs for its price.

Elemental Designs has an on going amp and customer service problem. Wouldn't recommend them.

Rythmik fv15hp. Piano black.

Dual subs sounds like a good idea. From what I hear it makes a substantial improvement, especially if you have the space.

Thanks. I don't necessarily need duals. Any ideas on the HSU VTF15? It can be had for a bit cheaper if you wiggle Pete Hsu for a package deal.

+1 on both of those suggestions.

Well that sucks. eD always has some kind of problem with their subs, but their customer service was impeccable. Now even that's become problematic? Sigh...

I just don't see myself going back to SVS, I've owned many of them. I have been very happy with overtly loud/low bass, although maybe not as accurate...

who's a good dealer for Rythmik?

i dont tihnk i'd be unhappy with epik empire either.

You buy from Rythmik directly or through Ascend Acoustics.

Have you noticed how many Rythmik subs are listed as "back order" lately? Some even say "back order until further notice". Literally half of them have one of those designations. Wonder if they're having some problems.

There are no problems. They ran out of amps. I got the last one they had in stock.
The "problem" is probably staying up with demand. Nice problem to have. Doubt its with the quality of their product.

Dual empires would probably sound nice. You have an amp? You could get an unpowered Captivator, a pair of the soon to be released CHT vented subs, a few eD pairs, etc. Amp would be another $300 I guess.

I want to hear the empires at some point, they get solid reviews.

ill see rhythmiks delay response, if it's longer than 2 weeks ill just get the epiks and live with them. it'll b efine for what I'm looking for, just a little low extension and quality mid bass for video games. when i fire a boom stick it needs to go boom

That's a nice looking room! -

Dual Epiks are my vote of the subwoofers I have heard where you could go dual for about $1500 ( a smidge more) and still keep a real nice professional look. They won't feel as low as the SVS you've owned before, but they'll be cleaner for music, and I think they are pretty much incapable of making a bad sound on real world program material. They preformed admirably in the KC subwoofer meet, not the best, but still very good considering their price. You didn't state you are looking to knock the house down with output, and you stated you thought the SVS lacked a bit in accuracy --- so I think the Empires are a great choice both functionally and cosmetically.

Actually I thought the SVS was pretty accurate but didn't get as low as I wanted. I didn't have their top of the line subs though. The conquest is inaccurate but gets very loud at even inaudible levels (and 20hz it's very nice). I kind of prefer inaccuracy with video games (and maybe even movies, gasp).

I remember watching Hot fuzz the first time and the opening scene they simply close a glass door in an office and the sub went BOOOOOOOM! That whole movie is loaded with over the top bass.

My room is a 16 x 16 x 18 open to kitchen and open to the rest of the home especially at the ceilings level. Even though I have a small ported sub I get significant bass response (down-firing, front slot ported, wooden floors).

You did not mention the clearance between the floor and your window ledge/sill. I presume that's where your subs will seat possibly for best response (based on corner recommendations!).

I think it really depends on the room acoustics. You should probably consider bringing home a sub or two from your local stores (request demo units) to try before you buy something.

If you're looking to get ported kind, look at the Outlaw LFM-1 EX likely to go on sale this Monday - you could get two based on the sale price of $550 delivered! Very WAF friendly!

For sealed, I would suggest you look at the HSU ULS-15, it is one incredible sub!

Good luck with whatever you end up with

Agreed....i have a feeling we may have a new "King of the hill" in subwoofers once Rythmk gets big enough and can keep up with demand. I have seen a lot of other posts on different boards dumping thier current SVS/HSU/Epik subs for Rythmik.

Right now they are a sleeping giant!
And guess what?.. Im a Hsu sub owner!

I gotta call it the way i see it!
"Oh no...am i being seduced by the Rythmik DARKSIDE?" ;-0

well guys, I'm probably going with the HSU uls15. Only because Pete is very nice to give a little discount if I go with 7 inwalls. I know this isn't the forum for it, but I wonder if anyone has heard his bookshelves before?

I"m trying to keep this room clean and still open - so a projector with 7 in walls, and normally the sub doesn't have to be the same manufacturer but still...

I'm also doing to outfit it with some pallisair chairs and sell my berkline theater recliners. i kind of thought low seating would be better since it's really a video game room and I want to keep asmuch open space as possible for kinect/move/wii/etc. but my parents would hate getting in and out of chairs meant for 20-30 year olds lol

Pete suggested the uls over the vtf15 for a room that size?

No the specs look better and the budget fits. I need speakers too, so i can get some HIW in walls-1...guess my sub budget is now 1100. Mam sub price shipping is high! I can't do dual empires.

I wonder if i should save for a seaton submersive for the theater and use it's epik conquest in the living room?
If you had a conquest in that large room before and you go with a single ULS-15 now you'll be disappointed with it's output. It's clean and digs very deep but it's not an output monster.
You'll need at least 2 (more like 4) to get anywhere close to the Conquest's output below 25 hz
post #25 of 27
The ULS-15 won't have as much output as the VTF15h, and in a room like that you will need as much output as you can get. I would go with the VTF15h in that situation.

Thanks back to vtf it is for now

My room is very similar to yours - 22x21x18 and open to the upstairs hallway, kitchen, and dining room. I looked hard at a pair of empires, pair of VTF-15H's, pair of FV15HPs, the CHT 18.T duo, and the captivator.

I was 99% set on a pair of VTF's until a pair of the CHT subs popped up locally. I gave them a shot and was very impressed with how they filled my room with powerful bass. I have them left corner loaded now and running off a bridged EP4000.

In your situation I would definitely go with a pair of subs of some sort. With such a hard room it will be hard to fill evenly - the few exceptions probably being a cap or submersive.
