I would say more times than not awards equal quality than not equaling quality. It means that people who saw the film think highly enough of it's performances to say it deserved an award. I love how people always dismiss awards. If a film is lucky enough to have two performances from it's actors to get recognized it has to have some kind of quality about it.

This is released on rental in the UK via Blockbuster Video next Monday 16 Jan so UK posters should be able to let us know what the transfer is like.

Sorry I was tired and cranky and it took twenty mins to crack the disc so I was pissed off in general.
I run a blockbuster as of this month, so can get a few early impressions on discs.

I'm glad you liked it. But I didn't.

Yes, not everyone likes every film you do Mike, and I gave my reasons why I thought it was bad so that those that might decide to blind buy this would know why.

Sorry if you don't like to hear from other's that don't hold your opinion, but I suppose if you had titled this thread "Drive is coming out! I love it! Tell me why You love it too!" I might have been a bit off base.

The first releases are the same worldwide for extras, I have already posted pix from the UK disc.

no, US.

Whatever Disc you got your screens taken from is "obviously" not as good PQ wise.

check the comparing screens from the us disc:









I'd say, better colour timing, finer grain preservation and even one pixel line more on top, so even might be a different transfer..

I know theres another BD announced with bonus features etc.. will wait for that one, yet I doubt it will have a better PQ than the US I already have.

Like I said in the thread, the US Sony disc would be better.
Also there is no grain to preserve, digital cinema does not have grain

Erhm, digital filming doesn't mean you have no grain, seriously you are mixing up something there.. CG generated movies, like pixar doesn't necessarily have grain. But surely filming with the Alexa for example, captures grain. Especially in lowlight scenes.

Just look at the the screens, there is grain in every image.

Nevertheless, the US disc seems to preserve the grain/noise/ structure, etc better than your version the screens are taken from

It's not grain, it's digital noise.
I am also not sure what fight you are trying to win? I said when I posted the pix that the Sony disc would look better, as the UK encode is on the small side.

3 times I have said the Sony is better.
Are you just choosing not to read now?

If you know digital noise is not grain then why say it?
All you are doing is confusing the issue, I have bought 5 versions at least and was planning a real comparison.
Saying a digital movie transfer does not resolve grain is helping no one.

i watched the movie last night and all i can say that is it almost as horrible as suckerpunch. the only difference is that suckerpunch has no story at all. and drive has an ultra boring and predictable one.

there is one scene that i thought my bluray player stopped working. the movie is only like 1 hour and 30 mins long. and there is a scene of 1 minute that focus only on the face of ryan gosling. what the heck is the directory trying to explain here?

the story predictable. movie ultaboring. it is like watching paint dry. except the first 5 minutes and last 10 minutes there is nothing to enjoy here.

my guess is directory tried to make it like robert de niros taxi driver. - failed
my guess is director tried to make it like mallick - failed.

i see this movie like you make a painting and use only color red. every normal human being knows everybody can make this. however you have those artist people who will rave on that the color red is used on all kinds of ways. that the artist tries to create this or that. no he does not. it is just red. everybody can make a painting or wall in the color red. and that is what drive is about.

every normal human being will know drive is terrible and everybody can make a movie like drive. just ask ryan gosling can you sit in a car and just well make some moves with your face and record it. then you have already 90% recorded of the movie.

i really dig movies like spider,imsommnia, usual suspects etc. but this movie aint nothing like that. it tries to be art like. but fails misserable.

if you want to watch a good movie with ryan gosling watch idle of march. movie aint ultra exciting. but has a good story and good acting. but Drive. if you really want to part from your money. then rather spend it on charity.

hopefully i can still post this because before we know is we are struck by SOPA law and i have to sit 10 years in jail

I'm baffled enough by "almost as bad as Sucker Punch" and "attempts to emulate Malick", but I'll only ask you to provide an explanation for your claim of "tries to be art-like". I find this so be an irritatingly overused critique people tend to aim at films they happen to find boring and/or unengaging.

Not to mention "Idle of March" I believe he meant "Ides of March" Not to nitpick, I can respect people's different opinions regarding movies but if your gonna go in SO hard on a movie like this, it would help to formulate your opinion in a way that sounds a bit more intelligent.

English may not be his first language. Unless I'm mistaken, this forum has rules against berating someone for his grammar or spelling.

English is indeed not my first language.

i can formulate it much more. but then i would go into spoiler territority.

that said if you watch the trailer you think this movie is awesome. however the real movie aint nothing like that.

look at the box office it has been terrible for drive. why do you think that is when watching the official trailer? because in the trailer you think it is an awesome heist -action movie with a great story. it aint nothing like that. you will get trapped bigtime! like me who paid 25 euro at an import shop. the trailer is incredible misleading.

check for example this review below of drive. also someone who said the movie was misleading. i am realy not the only one out there. be warned!

again be advised the trailer is nothing like you think the movie is!

Firstly, box office and the quality of the film are not related.

Secondly, Drive did very well in the box office. Budget was $15 millions, USA box office $35 millions + another $35 milions foreign box office = $70 millions.

Thirdly, I don't care what your native language is. Sentences start with a capital letter in every Latin alphabet language.
