Drive - Page 4

According to movietyme's facebook page this disc is region A-coded.

The trailer being misleading doesn't necessarily equal a bad movie. I can certainly understand that for those (actually one of the people I watched it with was one) that enjoys movies of the ilk the trailer gives the impression of, can be disappointed with it. However, unless one is completely new to movies, I'd imagine common sense would dictate that trailers (and commercials in general for that matter) usually should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. I can't count how many trailers I've watched, believing this is just my kind of movie, and it turns out it's not. Misleading trailers are nothing new unfortunately, using the most exciting scenes with an intense voiceover and bombastic soundtrack. And sometimes ending up marketing it wrong or targeting the wrong audience.

The rest of the guys I watched Drive at the cinema with, was delighted. So was I.

Sounds right, back of the case says A only. Sony's usually good at specifying ABC if it's region free.

Sony's only second ever locked disc? Must be part of the deal.

Surely Sony's locked more than two? I can think of quite a few...

I may have under exaggerated, rule of thumb Sony pictures never normally are but the distro deals are case by case.
I don't class them as Sony releases in my head, universal should have pot this out really.
Never mind I won't be short of versions to watch.

Mike a few posts back you mentioned getting most of the BD editions out there...did you spring for the Russian by chance? I believe it's actually been out for weeks and was the source for the HD rips which first started showing up. Just for "shits n gigs" it'd be interesting to see how it stacks up transfer-wise. I believe it was confirmed to be bare bones.

Watched last night, expecting to hate it and ended up loving it.

I have a plot question, hopefully this is the place to ask.

The last 1/3 is based on revenge for the death of the husband. But besides forcing him to pull the job off, was it really so bad what the mobsters did?
It was the shop owner who came out and shot him, the husband should have been more careful. I think it would have made more sense if the guys in the Chrysler 300 shot him when he was getting in the car, then the chase began.

Dvdmike, how does the UK steel version look? I like steelbooks but won't pay the extra price if its not at least equal to the US version. Thanks

Seemed more appropriate that way!

Is the US version out yet? If so, is the quality any better than the other Blu-ray release?

dvdmike is right about this movie, it's a corker. There's also a Michael Mann vibe going on in some of the night scenes. Great disc, horrible flimsy plastic cover.

I still maintain its Shane shot in the same universe of Thief.

Also Futureshop exclusive slipcase:

I think we had this discussion in another thread but in case we didn't, let me say that I was as disappointed with Drive as you were. Instead of the driver coming off as some sort of existential Zen master, he struck me as a none too bright doofus with an unfortunate proclivity toward trouble. I thought the film's only saving grace was its strong ensemble cast. Brian Cranston was outstanding and I thought Albert Brooks turned in the best performance of his long career.

Despite my reservations, I will probably watch the Drive BD, although I thought neither the PQ nor AQ was anything special when I saw the film in the theater.

Since when was he pitched as zen?
He is a lonely guy who's only human contact in the world was the worst kind of people.
When he meets someone who finally cares he starts to change for the better, but he has no point of reference of what normal people do.
He does the right thing in his own way.

I watched this the other night, good movie, made me actually like the goz. Never thought that would happen.

Picture quality was excellent, i would say around 4.25 out 5 if i can make that rating.

Audio is also amazing, might be on of the better tracks i have heard on blu.

This was the u.s. disc.

Despite a few u.s. discs or a handful of u.s. discs, i find them typically superior to other releases around the world that are different. Of course there are a few exceptions, such as pans labryinth, black hawk down, traffic, watchmen ect... but by large I stick with the u.s. discs. Of course a decent amount of discs today are all from the some company with the same transfer unlike this one.

That russian bootleg bdinfo report for this movie was i think around 14kbps.

I'm glad to learn the US version looks better and that a few people have acually seen the US Blu-ray release!

Based on that, I'll be picking up a copy for myself.

Hopfully soon we'll start seeing screen shots of the US version.

Lulz I know right? Read a page or two, people. You wouldn't believe what treasures just may await you! Such as, say, screencaps from the Sony release matched to Mike's from the UK release! It's dazzling!
Oh, right, you don't have time. Not an internet loser, etc.

The color is not as yellow as the first set of images.

Though I'm under the impression the first set of images is NOT from the US release and the 2nd is is from the US?
