TVIX HD S1 Slim Fast Forward problem

I have a new TVIX-HD S1 Slim and excited to watch the first movie with my wife (the anti-technology person) last night. We got halfway through a movie and pressed pause because we were interrupted. When I hit play again all it would do is play in fast forward mode.

I tried hitting stop and start again, same issue. Fast rewind to just before the problem started, play, same problem. Turn the Tivx off, start again, same problem. Restart movie from the begining, it plays ok. Try to Fast Forward to near the spot the problem started, press play, same problem.

I have firmware 2.0.9 and looking at the notes for the new firmware it does not mention this problem or a fix.

Anyone have any suggestions? Of course my wife thinks that I ONCE AGAIN just WASTED our money on another piece of technology that DOES NOT WORK. I am hoping that I can get this issue fixed and try to make her at least a little happier.

Does it happen on all movies or just this one, if it happens on all then likely an overall bug in the player.

If it happens on just this one then it could be the file itself or a bug in the decoding for the codecs on that movie. Try converting the movie into another format using Handbrake and see if the problem repeats.

Yes it is happening with all the movies. I am hoping that it is NOT the movies since I have ripped 700+ into the MKV container format.

I've not experienced anything like that, but most of my movies are not .mkv so I'm not sure how to compare. Couple of things to consider, I don't think it's firmware related either, but you may want to upgrade anyway and try using a setting least changed from the default (i.e. list mode, turn off the file indexing, etc). Also, I presume this is happening on a network shared drive? Have you tried playing the same file via internal or directly attached hard disk?

Thanks for the ideas. I have only been watching movies on the internal drive, I have not tried to stream from the network yet. I do have indexing on so I will try again with that turned off. I also have the latest firmware installed, 2.1.

Let me know, if we can pinpoint the file types or procedure that causes the problem, we can get it to the engineers to correct.

Never found out what the problem was, but I suspect it was resolved with a Safe Mode update of the firmware.

I had the same issue, but this was with the WDTV2, which I bought for my parents. I was testing it with different file formats, and the movies that I had encoded with Handbrake would have this issue, which were M4V / H.263.

The movie would fast forward, but the sound was normal. I then tested M2TS and MKV files and they were fine.

I had the exact same issue as jmhays and has narrowed the problem down to videos encoded with Handbrake and variable framerate.

So to avoid this issue encode the movie with constant framerate.
