Tactical Assault Commander 3: PS3 mouse and keyboard controls

Made by famed controller maker Hori, the Tactical Assault Commander 3 (TAC3) is a true mouse+keyboard control setup that is coming to the PS3 October 24th for $100 (Amazon pre-order page).

Unlike other similar options before it, this does not simuate the DualShock controller - it controls the same as a mouse+kb arrangement on the PC. The setup allows for on-the-fly sensitivity tweaking and adjustable movement/input keys. It appears that it will be compatible with Battlefield 3 and Counterstrike Go! (which has been confirmed to have NO aiming assists like most console shooters):

Tired of using analog sticks to play some of your favorite PlayStation 3 games? Listen up. For the past several months, Hori have been working on their Tactical Assault Commander 3, or TAC 3, which to put it simply is a keyboard and mouse solution for the PS3.

I'm all for anything that replaces the clumsy analog stick to aim in FPS/TPS games.

PS3 has always capable to support generic USB keyboard and mouse. Only one game, Unreal Tournament 3 supports them and the movement is like on the PC. But developers keep refusing to support keyboard and mouse because it's unfair when playing online with others that using gamepad. (UT3 on X360 dropped support for USB keyboard and mouse).

If that's the excuse, then why is it okay to use Move controller to play online with others who use gamepad?

My theory is money. Move is Sony made controller and of course they want to sell as many Move controllers. I never once read argument about using Move controller gives the player an advantage over gamepad player online is unfair.

From what I read Tactical Assault Commander 3 is licensed with Sony. If the controller sends standard USB keyboard and mouse commands, and have a way to identify itself as "approved by Sony" device for games that don't support generic USB keyboard and mouse, then it will prove my theory.

^^^ All allowed 3rd party peripherals are licensed with Sony. Hori makes a dozen joysticks for the PS3, and this is simply them branching out to make a keypad/mouse controller. No need to make a conspiracy caper out of it.

Would've been nice if there had been more of a push towards proper integration of that type of support closer to the actual launch of ps3. The majority just came to accept clumsy thumbsticks and aim-assist to makeup for it on the current gen consoles as the norm. So I figure that people who don't buy something like this, will just moan about it if they hear they got beat by someone who did buy this.

Like "ooh pfff, whatever you're just being cheap with your mouse/kb"

Personally doesn't matter to me what people wanna use, but I'm used to dying a lot so dying some more won't really bother me X)

For any controller to be licensed with Sony, the device will have a logo on the box. Many 3rd party PS3 controllers sold at retail stores don't have any licensed with Sony logo on the box. I have a 3rd party Bluetooth gamepad bought from Best Buy and it doesn't have any Sony licensed logo since Sony doesn't allow 3rd party gamepad using Bluetooth. In either case, I like to see if many games will support Tactical Assault Commander 3.

I saw the camouflage version of the Tactical Assault Commander 3 at Best Buy and just had to buy it yesterday! $100 yes it did seem a bit pricey but I have to say this controller is awesome! Although the controller is wired, I hate having to waste money on batteries so this product is perfect! Blue LED light that illuminates the keyboard is a nice touch and since I used to play Counter Strike, it only took a matter of minutes to get used to the controls. Aiming on the mouse does take a few minutes to get used to, but since the sensitivity can be adjusted on both the controller and game settings, it was pretty easy to find the perfect setting for me. I saw that the HORI website offers the product on their webstore which is pretty cool, but it was definitely worth the time for me to check out the newest item that HORI had to offer at Best Buy!

What game did you play it with? Was it simulating the DS3's right analog to aim or did the game recognize the mouse/kb?
