I liked this week's show too. Thought the music was atmospheric and evocative, and added to the drama. I jumped a foot when I saw the lovely Lily Bell sharing Durant's bed. When did that start? Also enjoyed how Lily successfully commissioned Elam to dispose of the woman killer. Hell on Wheels won't bear much analysis but it is fun and exciting.

I think it was hinted at last week that Lily and Durant are "friends with benefits" but last night pretty well solidified it. Now that Bohannon is back, I wonder how long that will last especially given her look when she saw him.

I agree. Because I was curious, I rewatched the scenes between Lily and Durant in last week's show. I suppose that it might be argued that there was a "friends with benefits" inference, I was left with the impression, though, that the writers had confused vagueness with subtlety. No matter, I have really been enjoying the new season.

I agree with your point, I was simply going by your use of the word "rated" in a literal sense - as in ratings. On cable. Basic cable.

The music was very good, and along with some outstanding picture quality this show also has a very immersive surround mix, several times in this episode I looked behind me to see what was there, and of course it was the 5.1 audio mix from the show I was hearing. I could watch this show just on the technical aspects alone, but a good story always helps! smile.gif

It's almost as if Durant knew there was soon going to be an opening for Foreman. wink.gif Looks like he and Lily are "in bed" now in more ways than one (and yeah, I didn't see that coming either). Welcome back to HoW, Bohannon... He sure looked happy to be back, huh?

Sure do enjoy this series, so well done from soup to nuts. Sorry to see some audience erosion; hope that has more to do with the DISH dispute than people tuning out the show.

How many besides me thought that as the train was rolling away the Sweed would be in Bohannan's full view?

I never gave it a thought that the "Swede, not Sweed" would be standing there. smile.gif

Or that he would smile. eek.gif Not me.

Maybe he's just happy the old gang is finally back together. wink.gif

Big 'Sanctuary' presence on HoW this season with both Christopher Heyerdahl and Ryan Robbins (the train gang leader) on board. Half expected to see Amanda Tapping show up as a whore. tongue.gif

I think he's happy all right, but not for that reason. I'm guessing his calm demeanor is about to change now that Bohannon is back, especially given the synopsis of his character on the Hell on Wheels website:

Thor Gundersen is known as “The Swede” despite his Norwegian heritage. Appointed head of security of Hell on Wheels by Thomas Durant, he was charged with maintaining a semblance of order in the chaotic and dangerous railroad town. A man of puritan simplicity and a survivor by nature — he survived the horrors of a Confederate POW camp, Andersonville, during the Civil War — The Swede is convinced that Cullen Bohannon is a murderer and becomes obsessed with bringing him to justice.

Now that Gunderson has been relegated to emptying chamber pots and disposing of dead bodies, his hatred can only be festering and I'm guessing will come to a boil before season's end.

Hadn't considered the possibility that the commissioning of Elam to dispose of the old foreman wasn't Lily's idea alone but was instead a joint venture between Lily and Durant. Now that I think of it, it does make sense. Lily, her youth and delicate beauty notwithstanding, keeps her eye on the bottom-line.smile.gif

I watch at 110" this really does look good, not much degradation in PQ & AQ from the S1 Blu set... caught up last night with "Durant, Nebraska", good one.

I liked Episode 2 better than the first.

Looks life each character has a slightly different out-look, motivation and role to play.

I wonder if Bohannan will use his "second chance" to establish a new life or continue his revenge quest.

Great tension in episode 3....

Looks like everyone of the main charactes will do anyting to get what they want.

Elam Ferguson is really comming into his own.

My crusty old grandfather operated a small slaughterhouse behind his barn and when I was six years old or so, I would sometimes go watch him butcher hogs. One of his favorite sayings when someone would ask him if he knew where a person was, he would say, "He went to take a s&*t and the hogs ate him." I hadn't thought of that for years until last night. I guess the hogs WILL eat anything. wink.gif

He killed his hogs with a sledgehammer also.

Good episode.

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood but I didn't much like this week's show although it did finally make clear that Durant had been in the dark about Lily's decision to commission Elam to kill the foreman. I also thought that Bohannan's confrontation with the Swede was a good scene. Nevertheless, all the perils of Pauline stuff involving the brothers and, later, Joseph bored me. I thought the brothers' assassination of the German butcher was howlingly preposterous, although their decision to dispose of the butcher's remains in the pig sty brought back fond memories of Deadwood. I kept looking for Wu.smile.gif

I had forgotten about "the pigs" in Deadwood. Thanks for the reminder (another great series).

ROFL! It seems me that Hell on Wheels could use somebody with Al Swearengen's combination of managerial and head breaking skills.smile.gif

Yep, in some ways this ep was lifted from Deadwood. I too thought that this was one of the weaker eps so far.

Good episode, but I am now not liking the black guy's roll. I was a fan in season 1 but now he seems to be taking on a roll that just doesn't fit with how I thought they would go with the character, not a fan anymore.

A mere 7 posts above would have given you the "black guy's" name: Elam Furguson. C'mon, is it that hard? rolleyes.gif

Actually, his name is Elam Ferguson (check the web site), but I agree with you. Elam is played by Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. (born March 13, 1972), and is better known by his stage name, Common (previously Common Sense), an American hip-hop artist and actor.

I guess it is that hard since you spelled it wrong. tongue.gif

I only know him by Common, wasn't sure if others would know that or not.

Dam spelchekker.

Yeah, I think Common has been terrific. The rap segment of the music industry has a remarkable track record in transitioning to acting. Not that surprising, I guess. biggrin.gif

He was literally the only redeeming part of "Deep Blue Sea".

Sam Jackson should have sold that movie (at least the beginning, anyway), but his scenes made me felt like he accidently wandered on the set, but didn't want to admit he wasn't supposed to be there and just joined in.

Everybody else was shark food for all they mattered to the story.

I really miss watching this show, stupid Dish Network. mad.gif

I do enjoy readying the thread about the show and maybe one day I'll get to watch it.
