I noted that the baby was fair haired and it was straight. I'm leaning toward Toole.... Of course Elam could have all kinds of genes running through him, anything is possible!

That's now been cleared up. Really enjoying this season; so glad the show was renewed. Glad they don't traffic in artificial sentimentality; the old west was a cruel place and they don't pull any punches. Bohannon telling the young couple who stole the baby not to come back to HoW under penalty of hanging, knowing they'll probably be killed by Indians. Psalms not apologizing to Declan for torturing him for nothing. Hard core, man!

Could of been just me, but I think the baby's hair was red too. I think they did that on purpose to cement that it is not the black guy's baby and is Irish. He even makes a comment that he knows the baby is not his but it is still his kid.

Elam knows he is not the biological father, but he also said the baby is "his."

A pretty good start to the bonus season. I figured this show was dead after last year's finale, but they've picked up nicely.

I'm still looking forward to finding out the Swede's new angle. They have him almost to the point where he seems reformed, but I just don't see that 'taking'.

That's probably what everyone thinks - that he's going to betray those Mormons big-time. But the Swede is a tremendously multi-layered character and Chris Heyerdahl plays him brilliantly, so I guess it might be possible that the Swede will convert to Mormonism and take on a few wives once they reach sanctuary in Utah. wink.gif

In any event, those two plotlines have to converge soon and it will be pretty interesting, to say the least, when Bohannan and the Swede meet once again. I suspect hearty handshakes and pats on the back are not in the offing.

Are they still building the railroad? Seems like a lot of hanging around in H.O.W. going on. Is Durrant going to give Elam the reward?

Sure they're still building the railroad. They're getting ready to move the camp forward which means they're making progress. They've got surveying crews out ahead trying not to get killed by Indians. But watching guys lay track and pound spikes for an hour doesn't make for particularly great TV.

And I wonder about Durant's reward too. Knowing him, he'll probably try to weasel out of it. Knowing Elam, he won't let him.

Hangin' out with Grant and the Swede goes back to doing what he loves to do.

Yes, who didn't see the Swede's actions coming? At least the boy escaped, hopefully for good, although he's almost sure to appear later.

As much as I like Cullen, this judge, jury, and executioner persona of his is becoming a bit tedious. Overall, though, a very excellent episode with enough side stories to keep things stirred up.

Kind of slow. Started good (Swede) then real slow, then ended really well. Still loving this show, he plays that role (Cullen) soooo well.

I thought they showed the boy in the river with his parents when the Swede drove off in the wagon...did I mis-see that?

Yup. The boy ran off into the woods. The Swede called out to him, then said (to himself) that he'll find/catch him, he always does.

I'm not sure what happened, but the Swede storyline became very boring to me early this season. It just seems like a waste of episode time. I'm not enjoying this season like I did the others. They shouldn't have killed off Lily Bell, I think I would have liked it better if they had killed off the Swede.

At first I thought the kid was in the river too but then realized I was looking at his dead mother. Also, in the previews, I think the kid was shown attacking somebody with a knife.

I love the Swede because he's so much fun too hate. Every time I think he can't possibly do anything more horrible and evil than we've already seen him do, he tops himself, the murder of the Mormon mother and father being Exhibit A. The Scandinavian fellow is a sick puppy, indeed.

I think that is my problem with the Swede, I know he is gonna do something horrible, that's all the character is good for anymore, he's going to do something horrible. There is no real surprise, suspense to me, when is he gonna do it, and at this point I don't even care if there is a why involved. At least when he was in camp, I could see how he was slighted and demeaned and would seek vengeance/revenge on Bohannon, but this now he's just a sicko and not really an inventive one to me.

I suspect we won't see the Swede killed until the show finale.

I agree. We're building up to the showdown I'm sure. I like the Bohannon character, but the surrounding cast just isn't doing it for me this year. I do like Durant, and I could probably get into that storyline a bit more, but it seems so much time is just meandering. I've been with it since the beginning, so I'll stick around and hope for the best. I'll try to not be someone who complains constantly. LOL

I'm thinking, being a baby, the kid is a bit too young to know if it's straight or not....

...not that there's anything wrong with that....

Am I the only one still watching this show? Whatever happened to the newspaper lady? Did I doze off and miss something? I don't remember seeing her the past 2 episodes.
This last episode was a real snooze, I'm real close to giving up on this one.
It does seem to be meandering toward nowhere in particular. I'm still watching though as this show has some of the best picture quality I've seen on TV. It's quite a contrast to see a show like 'The Walking Dead', which looks like it was shot with a cell phone and another show on the same network with some scenes looking like a 4K camera was used.

The newspaper woman went back to NYC although I don't recall what the reason was, might have been to escape the cholera outbreak.

Thanks, missed that.

The newspaper lady is back in this episode, did you miss that part? She went back to the east, I believe she said New York, but she is back now.

Wow, I must keep dozing off. I totally missed her. So, excuse my ignorance, I'm guessing that was the newspaper lady at the end rather than the church lady? I'm so confused!!!! I really need to start recording this so I can refer back.

The newspaper lady is now sleeping with Common's wife/girlfriend.

Well, I don't think it was "sleeping together" in the common vernacular (as opposed to Common, the rapper/actor). It was likely sleeping together because there was only one bed in the room.

I really enjoyed the last episode, some great dialog. Can believe Mickey shot Sean! eek.gif But they clarified it somewhat during the burial, where Mickey related the story about Sean killing those girls back in Boston. Left unsaid (but mentioned by the Boston copper) was how Mickey and Sean killed two more men, including a cop, to cover up the crime. Clearly, Sean was a sicker puppy than we had been led to believe.

The one thing I couldn't explain was why the Mormons just let Bohannan walk off with their workers they had previously poached from him. That one worker said the Mormons would kill them if they tried to leave. confused.gif
post #510 of 569
The whole reason the newspaper lady is "stuck" out here is because she got caught sticking her tongue into someone else' honey pot. So, yes they were "sleeping together" in the common venacular. And Miss tattooed chin just might prefer to swing that way, too, I strongly suspect.
