"Hell on Wheels" on AMC HD - Page 19

^^^ Thank you William. This show is a period piece. They don't have the budget of a major motion picture, or an expensive HBO project like 'Deadwood', but I think they've done an amazing job creating a believable world set in the post Civil War period. I love the show, hope it gets renewed, and plan to watch each episode twice next year to make up for Dave's absence. wink.gif

And yes, the 19th century Mormons really were that violent. They essentially wanted to create a separate country for themselves and their odd, new religion. There was a lot of that secessionist kind of thinking, and the violence that went along with it, going on back then.

After three seasons of rudderless story telling, the finale was the worst episode I have seen in recent memory. The great photography cannot save this poorly scripted series. There will be no season four for this guy.

Riddle me this:

(1) How many more times is Durrant going to evade the law and take control of the railroad? And can they actually shoot a scene where he isn't chowing down or drinking himself into a stupor.

(2) I never recovered from Lilly's demise. Yet there seems to be a never ending supply of woman for Bohanon's fickle relationships. Lilly, Ruth, Durrant's wife, the Lesbo NY Times lady, and now a Morman teener.

(3) After the Elam - Eva get out of my house scene, I was rooting for the bear all the way. Elam seems to have anger management issues. Or he did before he became a bear appetizer. He is dead to me.

(4) I guess I missed that day in history class where they taught how violent and murderous Morman's really are. Really?

(5) These folks have amazing telescopes. They can see 5 miles away as if it were just 150 yards. Cheyenne must be closer than 5 miles from the camp because people come and go between them in just 15 minutes or so.

(6) I am particularly impressed by the endless supply of milled lumber which appears as if by magic to build windmills and houses. These railroad guys are superb craftsman with advanced engineering degrees. They must store the power tools in the garage.

(7) The housekeeping staff at the cattle lady's hotel deserve special recognition. They repaired missing or destroyed glassware, furniture, doors and windows, just in time for a big meeting with the RR board, in just a few hours it seems.

(8) Let's not forget about the gunfights and amazing marksmanship of these guys. I am pretty sure Bohanon shot 13 of the 9 guys that were pursuing him. I counted 9 guys on horses with masks and 13 guys that were shot in the town. And it only took one shot to take each of them out. Even with a speed loader accounting for 12 rounds of ammunition, Bohanon had an inexhaustible supply of ammunition without reloading. Not to be exceeded by the endless supply of Mormans of course.

(9) The Swede should have his own spinoff series. He really is a fun villain. He has more lives than a Cheshire cat.

(10) We need to pass the hat and teach Anson how to speak lines without mumbling. Honest to God, his accent deepened as the season progressed and even subtitles couldn't help. His articulation is only exceeded by the guy with the stiff upper lip on The Bridge.

(11) Okay, did they really have to break into song when laying rails? Mel Brooks came to mind when Slim Picken's asked for a good old ... work song in the 1976 classic Blazing Saddles.

(12) Call the casting department. The requisition for the chinese laborers who actually built the UP railroad has yet to be filled. It is do-over time.

(13) Kudos to the Morman seamstresses. Bohanon had a really nice wardrobe by the time he was dragged into the courtroom to face the Swede.

I need to leave now. Will one of the 4 of you who are still watching this series, please turn out the lights?

Thank you.

Delightfuly funny.  Liked rooting for the bear and Bohanon shooting 13 of the 9 guys in pursuit.  Ref to Blazing Saddles is pure gold.

I really enjoyed the finale. Mostly because with all the cliffhangers there's almost certainly going to be another season. And that makes me happy because I really love this show, including this season. Anson Mount so owns this role; I'd watch him read the phone book...err, telegraph records. The different emotions passing across his face during the trial scene and testimony from the girl, conveyed with such nuance and subtlety - man, that was good stuff.

If there is a renewal, Elam's not dead. Somebody was going to survive that epic battle between man & beast, and the beast was clearly dead. Ergo.... Plus, he's a principal character and his arc still has a ways to go. He's got to rescue Bohannan from the clutches of Mormon servitude. And reunite with Eva. The railroad has to get finished. And Durant has to get his just desserts; the bad guys don't typically win in a western. And that includes the dastardly Swede/Norwegian - his will be a deliciously deserved demise. I aim to see it.

So, I'm happy with the finale, and happy with the prospects of another season. The producers must know something. They must have gotten some sign from AMC that they were getting another season or else they would have crafted a different ending - one with no cliffhangers and more closure. Of course, I could be wrong, but 2+ million on a Saturday night might be enough for the network.

As I like to do with most series .. finished a marathon watch this weekend .. I pretty much echo what you've said .. the set up for another season is excellent and to not renew the show now would be a travesty ..

Good News!!

AMC Renews Hell on Wheels for 'Super-Sized' Season 4

I really enjoyed Seasons 1 and 2. We haven't watched Season 3 yet, but we should get to it soon.

Whoo-hoo! More Bohannan! More Swede (he's too cool a villain to kill off now)! More Elam! More dastardly Mormons! More railroad track! I, too, am a happy camper. smile.gif

Great news, hopefully they improve on last season though, they need to make a lot of changes.

The audience grew with the move to Saturday Night and three more episodes are being added. Not sure AMC views this as a flawed show needing major change

+1. As they've all been. Last season was different in tone and style but I didn't view that as a negative, rather as creative growth.

Are they adding 3 more episodes for the new season or was that last, I always found the season a little short. and it does need a fix, plus there seems to be a time gap from one show to the next.

As the link above shows in post #544, the first three seasons were 10 episodes each and season four will have 13 episodes airing next summer.

Hopefully they keep the same show runner so there is some continuity between seasons

Based on what I saw on Twitter the last 2 or 3 days, the actress that played Bohanon's wife that he married in the last episode has left the show.

I smell a fatal Indian attack. Maybe the season will open with Bohannan in a state of grievous mourning for her off-season loss.

Gee, that sounds familiar... tongue.gif

It's been so damn long since the last episode I don't even recall the marriage.

I think they will be very challenged to get beyond season 4. Season 3 renewal took a while and then the show runner quit etc. It seems like they were barely hanging on by their fingertips.

As long as AMC does a good wrap up with it, I'm fine with that ..
