There are a few USB 2.0 drives that are > 2TB as well, but different drives accomplish this in a different manner.

Again we'll test with the latest firmware and update our knowledge base regarding this.

So, what have you found out?
And when is the "scan and fix" problem going to be addressed?
Is this the right place to make suggestions? I just got an EP600 G2 and have a few suggestions for improvement...
  • Don't show hidden and system folders

There's no need to see system folders like RECYCLER on the list, and if folders are hidden then you probably really don't want those displayed either. I say hide 'em so there's less to scroll through.

  • Loop the lists on Page Up and Page Down

If your cursor is on the last page at the bottom of a list, it'd be nice if pressing page down would bring your cursor to the last row of the list, and if the cursor is already on the last row then jump it to the top of the list.

  • Thicker text-based subtitles

Most streaming media players I've used have had thin subtitles with outlines that weren't thick enough for external subtitles, and this one seems to do it too. So far the Nixeus Fusion HD is the only one I've used that had thicker subtitles, and it really does make them easier to read, especially on CRT televisions.

^^^
you can have up to four additional TTF fonts
put them in the root directory
try trebuchet bold
Thank you for the suggestion. I tried putting the Trebuchet Bold trebucbd_0.ttf file in the root of each of the networked hard drives, and then also in the folder with one of the video files, but neither approach worked.

I only have networked hard drives, I have no hard drive connected directly to the device. I tried accessing the device's IP through my browser to see if it would give me some kind of user interface to maybe upload the font file, but it just redirects to a subdirectory called "unicgi" which then displays a 404 Not Found error.

Could you be more specific about what exactly needs to be done to get the device to recognize this font file?

does this device support arabic subtitles ? I am planning to buy this device but this feature is essential to me.

If you have a usb flash drive, put the TTF files in the root directory and connect it to one of the USB ports. Try that. Tahoma Bold is another good font for subtitle.
While the movie is playing, turn on sub, then press Menu to access the subtitle option where you can change font type.

If it does not work, go into Setup>Intelligent Setup>Subtitle Font Directory and press Auto Detection.

Putting the TTF file on a thumb drive and then changing the subtitle font from the menu during playback worked nicely. Thank you! It does not seem to remember this setting, however. Every time the video is stopped and restarted it goes back to the embedded subtitle font. Is there any way to make it just keep using that external subtitle font?
unfortunately, no, there is no way to keep your setting
it is one of the feature I requested along with the feature to hide/show any folder of your choice (similar to your request) and some other problems to be fixed
it's been almost a year and nothing has changed which is really disappointing
so don't hold out any hope

If you can attach a subtitle file you want tested, I'll try it out and let you know if it works.

It does not work as-is. It initially thinks it is Chinese, but I tried all the different encodings and none of them showed proper Arabic. However, it may work if you can encode it as UTF-8,

Thank you very much for your efforts, it seems it doesn't support arabic after all, do you recommend another media player that supports 3d movies and external hard disks >2tb, this is my original requirements besides the arabic subtitles.

really thank you again
Unfortunately I have no recommendations for any media players that meet your specs.

Hi there,

I just received my EP600 G2 from Amazon and it works great so far- no issues whatsoever. However, when I decided to upgrade the firmware I noticed that the firmware on the box currently should be for the EP950 (Per the Micca website). Also the box name in the setup menu is EP950. Has anyone else had this? Do I leave the 950 firmware on there, or replace with the 600 recommended firmware?

Thanks in advance.
Jack can confirm, but the 950 & 600G2 firmware are one & the same.

Any media player will be able to support any size hard drive / storage device if you share it via network rather than USB / Sata ports.

I know when I used to own the PCH-A300, I had an 4 bay external enclosure with 3 2tb drives, and the PCH-A300 saw each drive separately. If you get a raid enclosure the you can set it up to where it combines all drive in one.

Howdy - new to forum and also Media Players\\Streamers in general. Only tried another player based upon RT1185 that just didn't fit our needs.
Hoping someone can help us with some very basic questions on this player's capabilities.

I'm a Professional Tennis Instructor and Martial Arts Instructor. Tired of lugging around set top dvd players to play video files and other content for our students.
The idea of a little box like the one we tried is much preferred. Here's what we need it to do. Please forgive me if the list gets longer than expected
First, what we don't need:
1. Don't care about BD (bluray?) period.
2. Don't care about wireless - we use all Ethernet
3. Library isn't important because I have no problem simply browsing to the content I need to play.

What we do need:
1. We have a lot of STANDARD DVDs ripped onto hdd BOTH on external USB hdds and in networked PCs. So it must play ripped dvds (we use DVD Decrypter). We rip dvds in two formats: DVD folder structure (VIDEO_TS\\VOB files) and also ISO. Nothing is copy protected. We need a device to play these with menu support. The other player we tried based on 1185 chip started to play this content but had problems later on during playback. It would revert to main title and\\or would not navigate via the chapter menus correctly. In other words, it would NEVER play the content\\movie all the way to the end. We were told that this is a flaw in the chip and that no firmware would fix so we returned it. We only tested on Single Layer DVD folder structure rips (none of them ever worked), and Dual Layer ISO rips. We didn't get to test single layer iso because if the dual layer iso's didn't work, it was no use to us.

2. We found out that frame by frame forward and reverse on these is not possible. This is tragic for us. But the one we tried had a nice slow motion (but only forward) controlled by buttons on the remote. We need this for instruction purposes. Perhaps we should be looking at a higher end player like Dune, but we are not even sure their capabilities are any better. If we could get a player that supports slow motion in both forward and reverse it would be a blessing to our work. I've heard of an "A-B" feature but don't have a clue what it is.

3. The ability to play basic audio-video files like mkv, mp4, avi, wmv (we know the limitations), flac, mp3, flv and with
subtitle support (for vid files) where possible.

4. For my own personal: Like to play photo slide show with music playing in background. Seems simple, but found out many players don't allow that.

5. Internet apps are not that important but it would be nice. More interested in ability to simply browse internet but again, not that important and I know a PC is much better for that.

6. The ability to be a STAND ALONE DVD PLAYER for NON Copy Protected Disks with menu support. The 1185 player did this perfectly. In fact that was the ONLY way it could play any DVD movie content given the glitches in playing ripped dvds. In case our ailing DVD player dies, it could be used with an external USB DVD player with full menu support. PCH claims most of their players will do this. The RT1185 player we used did it and Dune claims theirs will also.

7. The 1185 player we tried had a nice feature that allowed you to change screen size (16:9, 16:10 etc) via button on the remote. I haven't been able to confirm the buttons on this remote so i don't know what is available.

If all this is too much for this player, please let me know. Recommendations appreciated. (Dune? PCH? etc...??). We actually hated to give up the 1185 player we tested as it did so many things right. But it's inability to properly play ripped dvd content was a deal killer. We combined a lot of our video recordings into DVDs for our set top dvd players and we have TONs. I don't want to have to reconvert all those. I don't have a problem converting the DVDs that are still in original folder structure to ISO's if necessary, as long as it will play these iso's (dual and single layer) correctly.

Thanks for any help you can give on this!

So this isn't where we'd post for info on this specific player? Are we missing something here?

I realise i mentioned other players, but it is the Micca EP600 G2 we are most interested in. We'll need a quantity of them so i was hoping that Jack or anyone else could help us with the capabilities of it.
1. Yes, it plays DVD rips fine.

2. I don't know. If it's possible, I haven't figured out how to do it, but also haven't put much time into it either. The A-B feature is for repeating a specific section. Select point A then point B and it will repeat just that section.

3. Yes, so far has played every video file I've thrown at it, including FLV. Has subtitle support, but the subtitles, like many players, really needs to have a bolder font with thicker outline to distinguish it more from the video behind it.

4. Don't know, never tried it.

5. I believe it has the ability but I haven't tried it. Other players I've tried to browse the Internet on would crash on pages with Flash so I stopped trying (since I've no need for the feature anyway).

6. Sorry, I don't know this one either. I don't have an external DVD player to test.

7. Yes, there is a dedicated button for rotating through screen sizes.

Look at your post. It will be better to start your own thread so you can get a better answer for what you need, which you are discussing a lot more than just the Micca EP600.
So I've had my EP600 for some time. I've talked about it here before... Basically, it does what I need it to do. It plays almost anything I throw at it which is great... BUT I don't love it's clunky interface with pretty much everything it does. All I want is to see my album art!

So I essentially just use the network function to stream files off my PC, so here is my question....
To get to my shared folders on my computer I have to press FILE MANAGER -> NETWORK -> WORKGROUP -> XXXX-PC -> and after all that I can choose from shared folders on my PC.

So what can I do to shorten this? I see a My_Shortcuts folder along with the 'WORKGROUP' choice but you hit the red button and it brings up login fields... since I simply have an open shared folders I don't have any info to put in there.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The Micca is serviceable... but man oh man once I have the cash I am building myself an HTPC.

Thanks for any tips fellow Micca owners.

Thanks for sharing the information and helping us make a decision on this player!

Can anyone tell us what the manufacturer's warranty is for this device? We've read [Amazon review] that it's only 30 days?!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for the help everyone!

I'm not sure how their firmware is handling this, but the 1185 player we tried was simple once we figured it out. We simply added network locations to "My_Shortcuts" and then we didn't need to login every time thereafter.

As a daily user of a EP600 G2, I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately this is currently the only way to get to those Network folders. It's a standing item to figure out a way to shorten this.

The 30 days is the return/refund period. After that defective units can be exchanged for 1 year.
