Micca EP600 - Page 2

Hi Jack,

I did manage to get my wireless USB going. But now I can't get the it to see my drives on my computer. My computer see the EP600 under network but the media player does not see my shared drives. When I look under File Manager->Network the only thing that show up is My_Shortcuts. How do I get it to see my computer? By the way I am running Vista.

Jack, I just received this player. How do I add NFS shortcuts? There is a default ip address in the input box that I can't get to clear so that I can add mine. I have the latest firmware installed, v1.0.4.24.

Nevermind, I figured out what I was doing wrong.

Sure. I have a Dune also, so when I added a NFS shortcut I would input the ip address of my nas then the folder and subfolder (ex. ipaddr/folder/subfolder). I tried the same format with the Micca, but it wouldn't take it. I had to input a colon after the ip address (ipaddr:/folder/subfolder).

The new firmware v1.0.4.24 is out. The "scan and fix" problem mentioned in post #4 is still there.

Yes, the new .24 firmware was a minor fix that addresses some issues we had with the HiTV 2.0 application. The "Scan and Fix" issue is still on the list of items to be addressed in future firmware revisions.

kevydee, thanks for sharing your information on setting up access to NFS shares, I am sure it will be very helpful to others looking for the same info.

asanchez76, sorry I did not respond earlier. If your computer can see the EP600 then the EP600 should be able to access your computer as well. If you do not see a "WORKGROUP" item listed under Network, try going into My_Shortcuts and create a direct shortcut to your computer by entering your computer's IP address. Let me know if this does not resolve your issue.

I just purchased the EP600 to use with my NAS. I like to rip my DVD's down to the NAS in thier native file format and play them back, and had been using a PCH-101 to do this, but its been acting a bit flaky lately so I thought I'd see if the EP600 fared better.

I had some difficulty getting it to read from the NAS using NFS, but then I upgradd the firmware and that seemed to fix that problem.

It seems to play anything I throw at it very nicely! Better than the PCH-101 actually.

But the one thing that looks a bit odd is the TS Menu's...

They seem to work great but the "Action Highlights" are offset slightly on every TS_DVD file i've tried thus far.

Its not a big issue, but has anyone else seen this problem?

If so is there a setting to fix it or is just a bug in the way the EP600 handles the VOB menus?

I have the same problem with highlighted option in DVD menu being offset. Quite a bit off on some.

Yeah it's the way it highlights the DVD menus that's a bit off.

I haven't tried an iso wrapped DVD file yet, but I expect it probably has the same issue with those menus.

Still, as I've said it plays back pretty much every thing directly from my NAS. I've thrown ripped TS DVD folders at it, quick time mov, mk4 and even just raw vob files in folders w/o any menus, and it plays everything back very nicely!

The response is much snappier than my old pch-101, but then I've had that for about 3 years, and the processors have become much faster.

Since the os, on the EP600 is Linux, I wonder is this means I could take my Linux formatted sata drive from my PCH and have it work directly?

Does anyone know The format the sata drive expects?

UPDATE: Well, I disconnected the Internal SATA drive from my PCH-101, connected it to the EP600, and had it scan and update the library and bingo! It had no issues recognizing and playing all the movies I had put on the PCH! So it seems an "upgrade" was pretty seamless. Color me impressed!

Ok, So after playing some more Ripped DVD's back on the EP600, it seems like most TV shows I've ripped the DVD Menus work correctly!

So I'm wondering if the issue has something to do with the aspect ratio, since I'm only seeing it on DVD movies.

Does anyone know if the ep600 is capable of connecting to a wireless network with WPA-PSK authentication? I bought a USB dongle from monoprice, "Monoprice 6147" to be specific, since it was listed on the Micca website as having the same chip as the one they sell, everything was fine when connecting to a network with WEP authentication but when I changed my network to WPA it wasn't able to connect anymore, it detects it and everything but when I enter the key and hit connect it gets stuck for a while on "testing connection" or something like that and then it just tells me that the connection failed.

According to the instruction manual on the dongle, it's supposed to support WEP, WPA, WPA2 and all that, so I don't know if its the dongle or the Micca. Anyone know?

Forget the wireless thingy. Save yourself some troubles by getting the power line ethernet adapters, and get better streaming performance too.

I would get power line ethernet adapters if I streamed most of my content, right now most of it is stored in a USB drive and that fits my needs. I wanted this for the stuff not in my USB drive, like the occasional streaming of pictures and music.

Unfortunately we do not have one of the Monoprice wifi dongles to try. We use WPA here at the office to test certain player functions and it has worked well for us without any issues.

Can this player stream Internet radio stations? If it does, can you browse for them on the player itself and store favorites or do you need to enter URLs found elsewhere?

How long will the Micca Ep600 continue to have firmware updates and support with new Micca products now out? A lot of focus seems to be more around the 2nd Gen of Ep250/350 and Ep950.

The EP600 will receive regular firmware updates. There is a new version currently in the works to be released in the next 30 days.

Jack, I'm having some issues with an .mkv file. The file has 1 video stream, 2 integrated audio streams and a text stream, the first audio stream plays fine as well as the text. The problem is when I select the second audio stream, the movie will play at a very fast speed and with no audio, as if I was fast forwarding, pausing or rewinding won't fix it. Is this a known issue, is there a way around it?

The next firmware will fix the following on the EP600:

- DTS-HD compatible issue with certain Pioneer receivers
- Seek bar operation unresponsive for MKV with SRT subtitles
- Subtitle on/off default setting
- Skip playback changed from 10s to 30s

We expect a new firmware to be released every 3-6 months for a current product.


Can you post a MediaInfo output for the video with this issue?

I am a newbie but have been researching the DLNA media player options for a couple of weeks now and like the EP600 and 350 for their file compatibility, wifi option (though I don't understand why there isn't a model that comes with it installed), and browser capability albeit limited. Anyway, in effort to get the best of both worlds, I am contemplating getting a Micca and combining with a Roku for the Netflix, Amazon, Pandora and some Roku channels. My question is whether it would work to physically combine them. The EPs describe themselves as capable of passing media to other devices, but it seems that if I were to connect from TV to Roku to Micca, the Roku wouldn't play the files that the Micca would if alone, but if set up TV to Micca to Roku I don't know if the Roku functions would work. Would I just need to use them separately or is it possible that one of these approaches would create the perfect (for me) machine? Thanks!

Hi,

There is not a way to pass video through one device to the other such as you described. Both would have to be separately connected to the TV.

Nothing jumps out at me looking at this Media Info output. I'm forwarding it to the firmware team for them to investigate. Is this the only video with this issue so far?

Probably too late for a feature request, but it can't hurt to ask.

If not for this upcoming F/W release, then perhaps for the next one after... can the ability to DISABLE (turn off) HDMI Audio be implemented? I use the Micca EP600, connecting its HDMI output to a plasma TV and coaxial audio output to a receiver. When I switch my TV's input to the Micca, I have to "MUTE" the TV, otherwise the content being played through the Micca is heard from both the TV and the receiver simultaneously. Not a deal-breaker, just wanted to add to your suggestion box

Yup, only one.

Got the EP600 last week! So far so I really like it.
Here's a few observations...

- Love the time line (Seek) bar for jumping ahead in videos. I've used this on huge 1080p MKV files and it's immediate and snappy! My Blu-Ray and X-Box can't even come close to doing anything like that... ff or rew is always a chore on those units.

- Navigation is easy.

- Music sounds great.

Now for some quibbles (And this list may be longer but I do love this player)

- Would like to see the media libraries usable for files on my network instead of just files connected locally (I only stream stuff from my computer over my LAN).

- Album art for .Flacs and MP3's. I see it when viewing files in my network but once you start to play it the album art disappears. Can it not get this info from the id3 tag? Also I would like to see more info about the music file being played (Bitrate, file type etc...Videos show more info about their audio than audio files do!). But really in the end I just wish it displayed the album art when playing songs... am I doing something wrong?

-Can't get it to play WMV's.

-Wish it would go online and check for firmware automatically.

- Random question... What does the EP950 give me that I can't do with the ep600?

Overall I like this player! I just wish the Music playing interface was slicker...

I'm sure Jack can expand on this answer, but the main thing you'd get from an ep950 and not from an ep600 is playback of 3D bluray rips.
