Now that is funny. The first time I ever saw it I thought it mean the exact same thing, lol.

Hi all,
I just recently purchased the Micca EP600 G2. So far I like it. It functions better than the Netgear 550 I had which would freeze up when playing video alot. My question is this: I turn my computer off every night, and it looks like every time I turn my computer back on and then turn the Micca on it won't find my shared folder on my computer. I click on Network on the Micca and it just goes to My Shortcuts. If I go upstairs and re run the network setup wizard (I have WIndows XP), it will then see my workgroup and computer and folder. Am I going to have to do this every time or am I doing something wrong? The NeoTV would find the shared video folder all the time, which is what I was used to. I'm new to the sharing of folders over network so if I'm doing something wrong I would love some knowledge sharing.
Thanks

I have owned EP600 for about a week. It is an upgrade from WDTV ;-)

Two issues:

1. Can this player be configured to switch the output video refresh rate to match the input ?
I have turned 24Hz on and the device switches between 24Hz and 60Hz just fine.
The problem is when watching 25Hz or 50Hz material. I have to flip through TV Modes on the remote to get 50Hz.

2. The only file I was not able to play is using 4:2:2 chroma. I get a green screen, but the sound plays fine.
Here is the output from mediainfo:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

One more problem:

3. When playing DTS-HD MA the bitrate shown in the info is for the DTS core.
I have disks with 48kHz core and 96kHz HD and the info shows 48kHz,
my receiver shows properly 96kHz.

Unfortunately this is not currently possible. I'll ask if it is, however.

Are you saying that the receiver is properly showing that it's receiving the 96kHz raw DTS-HD stream while the player info shows 48kHz?

yes.

According to the wikipedia entry for DTS-HD Master Audio:
Code:
DTS-HD Master Audio contains 2 data streams, the original DTS core stream and the additional "residual" stream
which contains the "difference" between the original signal and the lossy compression DTS core stream.

These 2 streams do not have to have the same bit rate, so the assumption made by your engineers to take a shortcut and show the bit rate of the DTS core stream when playing MA is an incorrect one.

this is where WD HD TV has upper hand. It does both autoresolution and can play videos with chroma subsampling 4:2:2

I just ordered one of these players, as I'm sick and tired of the poor performance of the WDTV Live Streaming, which just can't seem to play some mkv files without stuttering in 24p mode. This has been going on since the device was released and WD doesn't seem to care. All they do in the firmware updates is add more useless streaming services rather than address this and other glaring issues.

I play a mix of 24, 25, and 60Hz material. From what I've gathered reading this thread, the Micca EP600 will switch between 60 and 24 automatically, but if I want 25Hz, I have to manually change the refresh rate? That's the only concern I have about this device. Other than that it sounds like it will be a much more pleasant experience than the WD SMP.

@canton..well I tried the fixed ip and it still is having me run the network setup wizard in windows xp every time I reboot my computer. Its very frustrating. As I mentioned before I never had to run the network set up wizard with my neo tv. All I had to do was share my videos folder and the neo tv found it each time.
I wish the Micca would do this. Its frustrating to have to run the network set up wizard each time I turn on my computer.

Hi,

Has the network topology changed in any way? It sounds like the player is not getting the broadcast of available hosts on the network. I take it you have a wifi router of some sort that all of your devices attaches to, and the router is responsible for assigning IP addresses to computers, correct?

I don't remember if I asked this before, but have you tried doing a firmware update on the EP600 G2 using the recovery mode? I know this sounds a lot like the "did you try turning it off and back on" knee-jerk reactions, but it has worked well to solve many of these odd infrequently encountered issues in the past.

Another thing you can try is add another computer to your network and see if it shows up.

Hi Jack,
Thanks for responding. Whatever I did, it seems to have fixed the problem. I went into my network settings on my computer and made some changes to that and to the services. I thought I had made those before but somehow, whatever I did the player now sees my shared folder all the time. smile.gif
Hopefully this response won't jinx it.

Is anyone else having remote issues. I sit 10 feet away, using a Harmony one advanced remote & it will not register from a 15 degree angle. Must be directly in front & about eight feet away.

Is there a way to play multi colored subtitles? I don't mean changing the subtitle color, but playing subtitles with text in different colors. I have some files in which text color changes from one line to the next to indicate dialog. The Micca shows the color change instructions between < and > plus the dialog, which makes the subtitles very hard to read.

Another WDTV Live convert here and the EP600 G2 kicks the ever loving crap out of the WDTV. As somebody mentioned, WD firmware updates made things worse 9/10 times and was mostly focused on adding useless features and not fixing the problems that the previous firmware(s) caused.

The only issue I have right now is quite minor and that is when I am in Thumbnail mode accessing my ReadyNAS NVX box via DLNA, none of the thumbnails load; all I get are blank movie strip icons. This worked just fine in my WDTV but it required me to name the thumbnails the exact same name (minus extension) as the MKV file. Is there some magic thumbnail name that I need to rename all my thumbnails to to get the Thumbnail mode to work as expected? I should note that when I browse by Network instead of UPnP and go to Preview mode, the thumbnails show up on the left hand pane.

On a side note, I do think it's kinda odd that preview mode over DNLA plays the video but preview mode over network file browsing just shows the thumbnail.

These types of subtitles are not supported, unfortunately, so they will not display correctly. The markup between the <> brackets will show up as you've noticed.

Hi,

UPnP/DLNA unfortunately has the limitation on thumbnail as you've noticed. In general, it is recommend to use Network to access shared folders and files since that works much better and has more supported features.

Hi Jack,

Besides the fact that going the Networking route adds about 9 more clicks to get to my movies, there is a feature that I use all that time that only seems to work with DNLA. The feature I speak of is the ability to play movies in a location that is actually a symbolic link (symlink) to another location. If I attempt to navigate to the folder with the symlink via Network, it will not show up, but it plays just fine via DLNA. The reason why I use this feature quite a bit is that it allows me to keep my transferred movies in one folder for seeding purposes but still organize them into their own folder (with thumbnail) in another folder structure without having to have two physical copies of the data.

Also, the fact that three out of the seven Icons on the menu page are completely non-functional when no physical disk is present leaves a pretty bitter taste in my mouth; especially considering the EP600 differentiates itself from other Micca products by featuring network support. I would really, really like to see DNLA support get more attention in upcoming firmware releases and if you read the reviews both here and on Amazon, I'm not alone on this.

All and all though, this is a killer product and I don't regret my purchase one bit, I would just like to see it meet its fullest potential.

file manager > samba > favorites log on > video > title > video file its... 6 clicks
file manager > nfs > ip address video > title > video file ....and here its 5 clicks

what you being doing ?
even if is 9 clicks its too much exercice for you in one day ?

Network, aka CIFS, not Samba or NFS...

File Manager -> Network -> Workgroup -> NAS_Name -> media -> Movies -> Title -> File

8 clicks is pretty close to "about 9" and even if were zero extra clicks that is a very minor point compared to the other points that make up 95% of the paragraph you quoted but chose to ignore. When it comes to software, and especially UI design, the adage "just because you can doesn't mean you should" is something to adhere to.

FEATURE REQUEST:

Hopefully Jack is able to pass this along to the firmware people.

I'd really like to see an option to program video and audio delays on my EP600. My issue is that with my new Panasonic Plasma and an Anthem AVR, the display seems to process video faster than my receiver processes the audio, so the lip sync is off by maybe 50-100ms. Most people don't even notice, but I'm really sensitive to this. It would be a great feature to have!!

(The WDTV Live Streaming has this feature, but you can't set a default value... you have to change it every time you start playing a video.)
Lip-sync delay should be a feature of your AVR since it's the one doing all the processing. Are you sure your AVR doesn't have this?
Hi Jack@Micca,

Is it possible to flash the Mede8er 1000X3D firmware to the EP600 G2?

Sorry I posted the same question in the other thread, not knowing there is another one here.

It did not work on mine. I got a corrupt logo screen and non-responsive unit after trying to do just that. A quick re-flash back to the Micca firmware (using recovery mode) and everything is working again.

My AVR has the capability to add audio delay, but since the video is faster than the audio, delay is the opposite of what I need. I wish it did have that though... Maybe I should give Anthem a call and complain.
