Micca EP600 - Page 18

Thanks HokeySmoke. I won't try it then.

Has anyone used the Android app successfully yet? I hadn't had a chance to try it on the latest firware but on 1.0.3.9, I couldn't open the File Manager. I could use the arrow key to go to the Accept button on the initial screen but pressing OK does nothing. I was going to try to download the xtreamer's android jukebox to see if it would do a better job of managing network media. But I can't do that without the file manager.

Hello Jack,

since the Mede8er fixed the 23.976 issue with their player for 3D, is there a tentative date for similar fix on Micca?

Reason is - If I play 3d bluray from my Panasonic player, i don't get any cross-talk. But same iso played through Micca does have cross-talk. I am not sure whether this is caused by Micca's changing of the frame rate, but the cross-talk is definitely there and does not go away no matter what depth adjustment i do.

You have to understand that Mede8er have more $$ and better engineering / technical support than Micca. Micca has been out for a longer period of time and has fixed a lot of issues. So, I don't think there is an answer to your question besides Micca is working on it.

Micca relies on HiMedia for hardware and software.

crosstalk has nothing to do with 23,976

both micca ep600 / ep950 or med1000x3d has more crosstalk or ghosting than any 200$ blu-ray player

and i have a micca ep950, a med1000x3d and a panasonic bdt 220 , and a samsung bd-d5500 blu-ray players.

i found this issue with crosstalk watching "a turtle tale 3D " and the subtitles in my epson tw6000 (under repair now ) has loads of ghosting in subtitles.

i compare all 4 devices under same condictions and this issue was lot worse in micca and 1000x3d, and lot less ghosting in panasonic or samsung players

i still havent got my epson back from repair , to check if this 23,976 isnt a gimmick from mede8er, i already post in another topic to someone with a med1000x3d and a projector to check whats the fps that shows up in projector info.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1420605/med1000x3d-high-definition-3d-multimedia-player/150#post_22406166

because a user in mede8er forums with a espon tw6000 already mention in 3D that is med1000x3d displays 23,99hz, the same frame rate thats shows in my micca 23,99hz and tw6000 before went under repair.

http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,9013.0.html

i hope these clears that does media players are no better than a cheap blu-ray player in PQ ,sharpening, crosstalk , 3D, you pay what you get for...end of story

regarding the 23,976 in med1000x3d , i would not be so sure about it until is proved.... if micca can display 23,98 3D in info, why med8er can't display. 23,976 3D in same info..............yes i allways can blame the epson that displays 23,976 in my panasonic and samsung players.

Just bought the Micca ep950 and after several hours of diagnosing why my image appears so dark, I have finally come to the conclusion that it is my 3DA-1 as well. Looks like you figure this out months ago. Has there been any movement on this issue as far as a firmware update in the works or some other work around. Bought this specifically for the purpose of playing 3d movies across my network! Bummer.

I have an EP600 that was working fine until I tried to change locations. I have it connected via wired ethernet, but it will not recognize my network. The connection is fine and I have hooked up a laptop to make sure. When I use the network setup and "test the connection" it always comes back as "failed". on the network I have (2) laptops (wireless), (1) windows 7 PC (wired), (1) XBox (wired). any suggestions?

Looks like the new update fixes "incorrect video format on startup"

I'm going to try this one out

EDIT: Doesn't fix the problem.

EDIT: Doesn't fix the problem.
The incorrect video format on start-up referred to the issue where the initial boot-up splash screen, the one with the film-strip, doesn't show up on certain TVs due to incorrect output mode. On TVs where it doesn't show, the TV would complain of "incompatible mode" or similar message.

Figured it fixed something else but not my problem.

I'm still baffled why my 3D bluray player can output the correct video through the adapter and the box can't.. Stupid adapter.

Hi All,
I am trying to create a shortcut for a network drive (in file manager), is it possible?, if yes how can it be done?
i have searched the forum for the same question and couldn't find it,
Thanks from advance

I just got the EP600 yesterday evening and haven't had much time to play with it. But I believe you can press the red button on the remote while in the file manager.
I just received my EP600 G2 today (and upgraded to the latest firmware), and I was wondering in what sense this could be considered a "3d" player, since, as far as I can tell, it does not appear to have any actual "3d" capabilities beyond what every 2d player already has.

1. It does not appear to even recognize that a .mk3d video is even a valid file format.
2. It does not tell the TV to switch to 3d mode when a 3d mkv is played (eg, it does not recognize the 3d tagging like every other 3d player does)
3. It cannot play fullsbs videos (says its an unrecognized format. can only play halfsbs, which every 2d player can also do, since halfsbs is basically nothing but a standard sized video which happens to contain 2 squashed half sized images)
4. halfsbs gets really screwed up when trying to view in 3d, with some horrible bar on the left side of the screen, which makes it even *worse* for 3d than any cheap 2d player for playing halfsbs.

So, what is "3d" about this player which cannot seem to be able to play 3d movies? Was that nothing but some marketing trickery because (like every other 2d player) it can theoretically play a standard video which happens to be sbs (although it does a poor job even at that with the centering problem screwing up the screen)?

What gives?

I'm not aware of any way to do this, but maybe others know some special way that Micca has created. I presume you have a local disk attached and are trying to make a link from there? The file system is ntfs (at least on my disk), and while NTFS support symlinks and hardlinks, the Micca only seems to recognize hard links. Hard links won't get you what you want, however, as they only can link to things on the same file system (they're just additional directory entries pointing to the target file inode (or whatever ntfs calls inodes)). "Shortcuts" won't work either, as those are just regular files that are interpreted by Windows to point to another file. Those aren't a real file system capability.

BTW, hard links can be quite useful on a local disk attached to the Micca. I use them to create "categories", or "playlists" within the file system. This is easy to do from a Windows box, using the "mklink" command.

An example. Let's assume you have a couple of top level directories on your disk:
MASH
ChristmasShows

In a windows shell:

cd ChristmasShows
mklink /H Death_Takes_A_Holiday.mkv ..\MASH\Death_Takes_A_Holiday.mkv

This creates a directory entry in .\ChristmasStuff that points to the MASH episode specified as the target. The Micca does show this hard link in the listing. Note, the \H is required to make a hard link. The default, soft links, aren't recognized by the Micca.

I have some MKV files that go into unstoppable fast-forward whenever I try to search any point on the timeline, pause or fast search. I have to stop the movie and play from the beginning without ever using fast forward, reverse, pause, resume or whatever. These files play without problems on the WDTV Live.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I've personally ran into some files like these. Try remuxing the files with MKV Merge and see if that alleviates the issue.

I'm having a sort of odd issue with my EP600 G2. On a few titles, I've seen some, for the lack of a better term, "shimering" on high contrast edges. I'm using this box on an older standard definition CRT based front projection TV, so I'm displaying 480i via component. I see the same issue through the composite output. As a check, I also tried it on an HDTV via hdmi @1080p, and it is still present, but not nearly as noticeable there (although for the specific title I tested, the 4:3 image size relative to seating distance is lower, so this may impact how visible it is). This "shimmering" is occurring at all of the high contrast edges on a given scene, and all of those edges shimmer together. It almost seems like some kind of DNR or edge enhancement gone amok, but I have the DNR turned off in the menu. This isn't a major issue, as I only see it on a few titles, and always on very sharp edge transitions, like black objects on a bright white background. My content is all DVD muxed straight to MKV ( with makeMKV)..no conversion of any kind. Where I've seen this so far is on various Charlie Brown DVD's, and a few episodes of the Little House on the Prairie series (the pilot has a scene that exhibits the problem very well....one of the very first scenes as they're getting ready to leave the big woods - the light streaming through the trees). I've tested the plain disks as a control, and I don't see the shimmer, though I do see some normal compression artifacts on those edges. I saw this issue tonight watching Home Alone 2, again in a scene that had high contrast transitions. It was just a brief instant of it though, on one scene (at least that I noticed).

For now, I'm just looking to see if anyone else has noticed this at all before I go digging into the mkv tool I'm using, and the resulting container and video details.

James,

I'm leaning towards a hardware issue, but I'd be curious to see if others have noticed the same thing.

Hi Jack:

Glad to see you back again. What's the status of the Alpha/Beta firmware that was being tested a few months back? I'm suspicious that you may have lost your firmware engineer, but regardless, what is the current state of firmware development? Does the firmware group have any type of roadmap on release dates?

Thanks,

Thanks Jack. We'll see if anyone else reports this. In the mean time, I'm going to play around a little bit with different encoding methods and other muxers just to see if it makes any difference for the content that exhibits the problem. I think I may be getting another 600 for Christmas for a different room, so that would also allow me to tell right away if it's something wrong with this particular unit. This is a great streamer though... especially for the price. I've really been happy with it.

James,

If you do get another one, that would indeed be a quick way to figure out if it's the file or the player.

I'm curious if anyone has used the EP600 and also used the Sidewinder 3, and if they could give an opinion of one vs the other. I'm ready to purchase a device like these but not sure which one to get.

Is anyone having success playing 176.4/24 FLAC files with this unit. Downloaded Dave Brubeck Take Five tonight from HDtracks in that format. No luck playing this sampling rate, file error. Is it just me?
I got my EP600 the other day and set it up a couple of days ago. It was very simple and straight forward but I've run into the strangest problem I've ever encountered. When I am playing movies (Blu-ray - M2TS files), via my external HDD, that are DTS the DTS pops up on the receiver's screen, but it definitely is not DTS (level) sound. I hope that made sense. The sound is low and a bit muffled. I normally would have my volume at -11 on my receiver to have it rock the room, but last night I had to take it way up to -3 and still not much of a punch.

I tried to compare the two mediums by playing "Kingdom Of Heaven" via my Blu-ray player and the Micca unit. I played the same exact scene for a good 5 mins and noticed a significant difference. I've tinkered with Micca's audio settings to no avail.

I am using an optical cable to connect the EP600 to the receiver.

This is my first Micca, and probably 7th media player. None in the past were the right ones for what I want. This one, so far, offers everything I want. A combination of DTS audio, M2TS playability, 3D, flawless rewind/fwd, resume play, etc. all in one box is just what I was looking for. I'd hate to have to return this one too if I can't get it to resolve this issue. If this issue doesn't get resolved in a couple of days, I am returning it.
I am returning this box on Monday. The support for Micca sucks. When I sent them an email (the only way to contact their support group) I get an automated response that they'll get back to me in 24 to 48 business hours. I get an email with a question, after 24 hours, to which I respond promptly of course. So, I don't hear back for another 24, or so, hours with a response that doesn't resolve my issue. i.e. They have no clue why it's doing that so their suggestion was to "test" the issue by purchasing another receiver with an HDMI connection. Really?? You call this tech support?? I am returning the item and Micca is not just getting a bad review on Amazon, but I'm gonna take it a notch up as well by reporting this elsewhere.

I understand you are having issue with optical output. Is there anyway to connect ep600 to receiver via hdmi and test it out??
I have a MyGica V5H which looks to be the same hardware. Even the menus look almost identical. Does the 600 allow 3TB or 4TB USB drives to be recognized and do you just use NTFS format?

Have you tried using the 600 volume settings set higher so you can keep the amp volume settings in normal range?

I've just got my EP600. All my media is on the network. I have no problem playing single media files and ISO images. But can't play a movie in BDMV folder. When I select a folder with BD file structure it's displayed as empty and nothing happens.

Is this a known limitation or something wrong with my setup?
I've just got my EP600., so far so god but I'm wondering how I can access the USB Attached drives on the network to copy files, is this possible or I need to unplug-plug in computer copy files and plug the USB again in the Micca?

Also with a Blu Ray MKV is displaying 7.1 DTS-HD MASTER on my ONKYO but if I play the same Blu Ray DVD in my Sony player it will show 5.1 MULTICHANNEL, what is the difference? I'm getting different distorted audio with the MKV and not as original intended? How I can get the same exact copy ripped to the Micca?
