It’s basically a PS4 extender with a bunch of other uses built in. Also seems to negate the need to buy a Vita for a ton of people.
Still, why can’t the PS4 just play Vita games as well? Seems they could make this device even cheaper if they just allowed PS4-Vita play and just streamed that remotely.
It probably will eventually, but writing a vita emulator for the PS4 isn't a priority right now.
I like where they're headed though. You just buy a "playstation" game, and it'll play on any of their three modern devices.
PS4 games play on PS4 natively, on Vita by remote play or gaikai.
Vita games play on Vita natively, on PS4 by emulation (eventually).
PS3 games on Vita and PS4 via gaikai.
PSP games on Vita/PS4 via emulation.
PS2 games on PS4/Vita via gaikai.
PS1 games on PS4 via gaikai and Vita by emulation.
And eventually, any device (PC, Ouya, Android, Xbox, whatever) will be able to stream anything via gaikai (assuming the platform holder doesn't block it).Edited by bd2003 - 9/9/13 at 8:07am
