I don't understand why they'd bother making a Vita version when they already have it as a PSP Mini. If it's not already compatible with the Vita, presumably it will be soon.

There's a new Angry Birds game coming out in a week or two called Angry Birds Space. That's what the discussion about a Vita release is about.

I broke down and bought a 32gig memory card. With all these demos coming out, plus the discounts via the PSN store, I didn't want to manage the tiny 4gig card that came with the First Edition bundle.

Anyway, IMPORTANT TIP: do not remove the memory card while the Vita in on! The system wouldn't turn off or on, the blue PS light stayed on and it didn't respond to anything. I thought I had bricked my system, and until I found the solution started to panic.

Also, another IMPORTANT TIP: if you think you've bricked your system, simply hold the power button for 20 seconds. It's a scary 20 seconds, but eventually a menu will come up with various options, including simply shutting the device down.

If you own a Vita, memorize those two tips.
Why would you remove your memory stick while the system is on? Did you do it when you switched to your 32 gig card?

I suspect most grew up with cartridge based systems and automatically turn things off before they remove something (Unless it's a disc). You basically do the same thing with flash memory on a PC as well if you don't want things to become corrupted.
Can you plug games in and out with the system on ?

I assume yes as its like an SD card reader.
But with a SD reader, you're supposed to turn the drive off before removing the media (Through the safely remove hardware button on the task bar of a Windows computer, for instance).

Interested to know myself just how it works on the Vita for game media after having just used a Vita at store demo stations.

Edit - The online manual isn't much help. All it says is to not remove a game or turn the power off when the card access indicator is blinking. So I presume you can remove and insert games when you're in the dashboard at least (Which I believe you can do with the 3DS as well, although you couldn't on a DS).

I meant PSP. My bad. But yeah, it still looks/plays horribly compared to phones, and everything else.

Yes, I've swapped games without turning it off. That's kind of the mindset I was in when switching memory cards - thinking of it as an SD card or USB thumbdrive. I don't turn off my computer/device when dealing with those, although it's not a bad idea.

I'm sure there's warnings about shutting down the Vita before removing the memory card in the device and/or mem card instructions, but such warnings definitely didn't jump out at me.

In fact, the Vita has become mostly an "always on" device for me. The only times I turn it off is to travel. Otherwise, I'm either playing it, or it's charging in sleep mode, looking at the people "Near" me.
This is going to seem obvious now but I'll mention it anyway. I turned my Vita "off" by pressing the power button and shutting off the screen. I then swapped out the memory card. Bad idea. I ended up with the same problem as DaverJ. I finally held down the power button long enough by accident and it gave me the option to reboot it. Looking back now, of course we need to shut the power off completely to swap the memory card otherwise the Vita will look for the memory it was using and not find it. Off means off!

Word has it tables bought for the PS3 version of the upcoming pinball sim The Pinball Arcade will then be free for the Vita. Nice!

Anyone else having problems of accidental pausing with Motorstorm? having a touch screen pause seems like a awful design choice. I have big hands and can't help be touch the screen at random times while using the thumbsticks. Otherwise great game is ruined from frustration of constantly tapping pause in the middle of the action.

I think the touch pausing is a great addition. Motorstorm RC is one of thoses games where restarting a race is quite common, and hitting the ressesed start button is a pain!

But yeah, there should be an option to turn it of in cases like yours.

a few Qs:

1) anybody know of a way to post pictures to facebook? I snapped a photo with the camera but can't find how to post it on somebody's wall. Neither from in facebook and clicking around nor from selecting the image in the Photos home screen app.

2) How to download PSP games to it that aren't in the VIta's PSN store. There was talk in previous posts of playing hte "PSN Outage free version of PSP LBP" on the vita. Maybe that was transferred a couple firmware versions ago and now the Content Manager Assistant is locked down to only officialy supported content?

I had PSP-LBP downloaded but not installed on my PS3, then hooked up the Vita to the PS3 via USB cable in port 1, and used Content Manager Assistant to copy from the PS3 to the Vita.

If that's no longer doable, then maybe it has been locked out? This was pre-launch, with the First Edition Vita.

Have you tried it? It is supposed to work, make sure you use the correct usb port, I read one works and one doesn't for Vita manager.

If you can find a used Wi-Fi Vita at GameStop, they sell them for $199.99 . I was at a Evil G today, and asked them, just out of curiosity, how much a used Vita goes for. I was kinda surprised to find out it was $199.99. That's a decent little discount off new, plus, there is the fact that the thing is only a couple months old. So, it likely wouldn't be all scratched up. With tax, it would cost me $215.49. . The downside, probably no memory at all. Not even a crappy small one.

I asked the dude if any of the gamestops in my city had a wi-fi, and none of them did. They did have one in a town about 45 mins (each way) from me. I'm kinda tempted to take a long drive.....

I've seen some on Craigslist for about $220, $230, but some of those deals included memory cards, and no tax added in..
Is there a demo for Escape Plan? I played it at BB but I can't find it on the Vita's PSN store...

I got my wi-fi for $182 ;-)

Someone returned it because they thought the volume button was sunk down further than the other one. Lol.

How did you get it for $182 ?

I've been looking on Ebay auctions with the Vita, and I've noticed that every once in awhile somebody will score a really good deal on a Vita. I've seen them go as low as $175 (shipping included). So, it does seem to be impossible to get Vita's below $200. I've made offers to some guys on Craigslist selling them, but they are focused in on trying to get $230 or $220 for one. My offers of $185 fall on deaf ears, lol.
Well, I ended up getting a Vita last nite. Found a guy on Craigslist that was selling a 3G Vita for $250. I offered him $190, and amazingly, he accepted. The Vita is in absolutely pristine condition, but the guy only had the power cable and the Vita itself. No box, manual, or anything like that. No memory card, no games. He also had a hard case for the Vita that he would have sold for another $10, but I decided to pass on it.

A different guy on Craigslist was selling a brand new 32 gig memory card for the Vita. He was selling it for $80. I offered him $69, and he said ok, as long as I come to where he was located. So I picked that up, popped it into the Vita to make sure it was legit and everything, and it was perfectly fine.

I've now spent $259 on a 3G Vita along with the 32 gig card. More money than I was hoping to spend, but I like having the biggest memory card and not having to worry about deleting stuff, and redownloading stuff. I honestly won't really be buying too many games off PSN (probably Stardust and Mutant Blobs), but I definitely want to get a ton of demos and stuff like that. I really don't care about 3G at all, but was willing to spend $190 on a regular Wi-Fi version, so I guess spending $190 on a 3G version is fine as well. Maybe it will come in handy one day down the line....

Since getting home with everything, I've been downloading all the various demos. One nice thing about just getting a Vita now, is the fact that there are tons and tons of demos on PSN now. So, I can try just about everything. Very exciting!

The only thing you are missing -- like myself -- are those weird AR cards that games like Cliff Diving use.

Stores arent allowed to sell returns as new... so a store by me has a clearance returns section.

Well, I remember with Eye of Judgement, you could just print copies of the cards on printer paper, and that would work. Haven't tried it with the Vita yet. What can you do with those AR cards anyways? Is it really worth the trouble?

I haven't taken them out of the wrapper yet. With the 3DS cards, I played with them for about 10 minutes and never went back.

So far the Vita has 3 games for the AR cards: Fireworks, Cliff Diving, and Table Soccer. I hear Fireworks is the best game of the three.

Here's a demo of what to expect from AR, but note a couple games in this demo aren't available yet:

The fireworks AR game is kinda neato. It's free along with a few other AR games.
Will gamestop and or Bestbuy trade in Vita games? I'm done with Dungeon Hunter and hope they will give me something for it. I can't belive I paid full price for that.

If GameStop can resell it, they will let you trade it, so yes.

However, they will give you pennies on the dollar for it. Throw it on Ebay or sell it on Craigslist. You'll get more $$$ back for it. I'm going to try to buy all my Vita games off Craigslist or Ebay. I'm supposed to meet this dude later today to buy Wipeout 2048 and Fifa Soccer. I'm giving him $22 for Wipeout and $24 for Fifa. That's $46 total. If I went to Best Buy and bought Fifa, it would be $39.99 plus tax, which is about $44. So, I'm paying two bucks more than that, and getting Wipeout as well.

On Craigslist, most Vita games are selling as low as $20, and as high as $30. Somewhere in that range. This one dude is trying to get $35 for Uncharted, but I seriously doubt he will get more than $30. If you look on Ebay, the final price ends up being a few bucks more than Craigslist it seems. For example, I would probably have to pay about $27 for Fifa on Ebay, instead of $24 on Craigslist.
I haven't seen that perspective on Fireworks before. Mine has only been top down.

Yeah I had the USB port issue initially. PS3 and Vita didn't see each other on 60GB PS3's USB port 4 or 3. When I plugged it in 2 it worked immediately.

The topic I'm referring to though is that of all the Minis and PSP games available form the PSN store on the PS3, only a portion of those are in the PSN store on the Vita. And of the Minis and PSP games that i've purchased and downloaded on the PS3, only a fraction of those are available in Content Manager Assistant to copy from the PS3 to Vita.

Of these games that I've purchased on the PS3:

PSP/PS3:
Unbound Saga
Pinball Heroes - Hot Shots Golf
Pinball Heroes - High Velocity Bowling
PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe
Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This
Patchwork Heroes
Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake

Minis:
TETRIS
Fieldrunners
Angry Birds
Flying Hamster
Blimp: The Flying Adventures
Fortix
Let's Golf
A Space Shooter for 2 Bucks!
Apache Overkill
Blast Off
IKARI WARRIORS
VANGUARD
MiniSquadron

I've only been able to download these Minis to the Vita:
Apache Overkill
Flying Hamster
Fortix
MiniSquadron
Blimp

None of my PSP/PS3 games are listed in the Vita store in the PSP Games category. What seems to be suggested, based on the LBP scenario, would be downloading the game on the PS3 again but not installing it, then try to use the CMA to copy it over?
PSP and vita games that you download to the ps3 need to remain in the capsule icon form or else the vita can't see them when you connect. If you install the game to the ps3 then you'll have to either uninstall it (never works) or redownload it (works for me).
Both the vita (screen lit up) and the ps3 have to be powered on before you make the cable connection. If I follow these steps I've not had any more trouble with transfering stuff. It would seem not all games are compatable.
Now the remote play feature I'm still confused about as NOTHING I have works. I can navigate the cross media bar and thats about it.

oh by the way I had to redownload using the manage download menu in the user accounts menu. Can this possibly be any more confusing?
Come on Sony I shouldn't need a diagram to get games on my system.

Are there any free videos to download via PSN? Movie trailers or stuff like that? Anything that shows off the screen? I was browsing around in the video section, but I didn't see anything that was free. Only thing I saw was "The Tester", and I could care less about that crap.

You would think that there would be a few music videos and maybe a few movie trailers that you could download to the Vita, so that you can kinda get an idea of how video looks on it.

Maybe there is, and I'm just not finding it...

There's some game trailers and episodes of The Tester (they're over 2 gigs though) under the Media category on PSN.

I go to http://www.iverged.com/category/trailer for movie trailers (download directly onto Vita through browser). Remember that Vita only supports up to 720p right now. Also, for some strange reason, certain trailers just won't play (Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus). I recently picked up the new IPad and compared the Avengers trailer on them. While the Vita is slightly less sharp, the colors are noticeably better.

Edit: Only some trailers have a download link (and I've noticed that some that used to have one, no longer do), so I recommend finding them on your PC first, because the Vita's browser needs a bit of work.

That's it! Thanks!
Update:

I re-downloaded PSP games on the PS3 and did not install them (left them in capsule form). By doing that I was able to copy several PSP games to the Vita (from the Vita's CMA) - but not all.
Successful:
Pursuit Force *PSN downtime freebie from May 2010*
Killzone Liberation *PSN downtime freebie from May 2010*
Unbound Saga
Pinball Heroes
Pinball Heroes - Hot Shots Golf
Pinball Heroes - High Velocity Bowling
Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This
Patchwork Heroes

Unsuccessful (Will not appear in CMA)
PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe
Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake

I re-downloaded minis on the PS3 but NONE OF THEM were found by the CMA to copy over. The only minis that could go to the Vita were the ones that were downloadable in the PSN store within the Vita.

And 1 more update: the USB cable works on all PS3 ports. You were exactly right in that one has to load up the Vita's CMA app and choose "connect to PS3" and it tells you to plug in the USB cable. Then plug it in and it auto-detects right away.

The missing games do make me wonder... Why no fat princess? Why no pixeljunk monsters? Those were 2 very popular games. Might it be because they are under remake/redevelopment for the Vita? Or might they (and other missing games) going to be compatible soon, like after one of the next firmware updates?
