Who knows what Black Friday will bring this year, perhaps you'll be able to find it for $20 then. Last year I picked up Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City and Red Dead Redemption game of the year, all of which had been out a matter of weeks, for $29.99 each. With Vita sales being what they are, I'd imagine you'd be able to find alot of games going for a 10 spot.

Do you mean "below mixed"? The original AC is pretty much the definition of a "mixed response," and its score is somewhere in the low 80s.

According to Sony's just-released financial report, Vita software is doing well. It's the hardware that's sliding. I imagine we'll see more buy-in deals like B2G1 and store-specific bundles.

I'd be interested to know the software numbers. Most of what I read on other gaming sites gives the impression that things are bad all-around. Vita must have a very good attach rate if that's the case, yeah?

The problem with numbers is the increased role of digital downloads. But here's a recent piece on Sony's financial report:
http://gamasutra.com/view/news/180685/Sony_Q2_improves_but_game_business_continues_to_slide.php#.UJK1U4U1bwM

The obvious problem with these numbers, of course, is that it's comparing PSP-only software sales to PSP and Vita combined software sales, but from Sony's perspective (and from the perspective of publishers), that doesn't matter. Improvement on their portables is improvement--especially if you consider that using that same comparison, hardware sales are down. The PSP hardware alone was selling better last year than the combined present-day sales of PSP and Vita hardware together. That's awful news for Sony.

Basically, what that means is that the Vita attach rate is much better than the PSP's. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why. But at least it offers some silver lining. And it may be enough good news to get more publishers on board, which in turn might slowly start to build Vita hardware sales numbers, which in turn would help Sony to bring the price down.

Hmmm...so we've got the inverse of what happened to PSP with Vita software selling while the hardware isn't. Interesting.....I'm sure the publishers would feel more comfortable with a healthier install base, but as you said as long as the 'few' Vita owners are buying lots of games, that 'may' encourage them to ramp up support. We'll see....I sold mine some 2 months ago because I just wasn't feeling it overall, there's nothing I feel compelled to play right now or can't get to some degree elsewhere. I'm happy to sit on the fence and see how things play out. Of course a lot of people are probably doing that, which is one reason it's not selling. smile.gif

I'd say the (re)buy-in point for me is $200 with a decent-sized memory card.

I'm in the same boat. I had one on indefinite loan and decided it was time to give the loan a "definite" end. wink.gif

Anyhow, I'm hopeful that the platform will turn around somewhere down the road. It sounds like more developers are interested. Once Sony can drop the price, they'll have software and features in place ready to greet the new owners. I may jump back in at that point.

GameFly had Resistance: Burning Skies for $9.99, but it sold out before I found out about it. frown.gif

Not to me. PSP hardware sold well relative to software sales in part to the huge software piracy "market".

Umm, that's what I was saying? PSP hardware sold but software didn't due to piracy, Vita hardware isn't selling but software is, due to absence of piracy *thus far*.

PSP piracy is one of the reasons that the new PixelJunk game is PC only. frown.gif

That doesn't make any sense. Only one of their nine or ten releases has been on PSP. The rest have been PS3 only. PSP piracy has had almost zero effect on them.

I think they're shifting to PC for the same reasons that everyone else these days is: flexibility in pricing and patching, bigger potential audience, self publishing, direct consumer access, etc. It makes less and less sense (and money) to go console exclusive.
I think the Pixeljunk people are making a mistake by ignoring their loyal audience. I'm pretty sure I own every Pixeljunk game on PS3 except for 4am, which was stupid. The truth is that Pixeljunk games are huge on PSN, on Steam they are just another 'indie' developer.

Anyway I'm getting a Vita soon.

They've had PC releases in the past, so I'm sure they're not going into this blind. Also, just because 1-6 has been announced for PC, that doesn't mean it won't be coming to consoles. I think they're following in thatgamecompany's footsteps. Both are studios that got their start through Sony. Both have been successful enough to be able to fund independent development and go multiplatform.

I don't see how that's a bad thing. And I don't think they're "ignoring" anyone. It's doubtful this game will remain a PC exclusive. But by building momentum on PC first, they can enter into their respective deals with the console platforms with some firm footing (a proven audience, financial independence, etc). Seems smart to me.

I'm a huge fan of their games. I don't see how a fan would see this as "ignoring" them. If anything, this works to fans' benefit. Increased audience. Increased production values. Increased support. Etc.

Pixeljunk already has a proven audience and financial independence - thanks to PS3 gamers.

If PS3 gamers can't play the game when it comes out on PC, I would say that is actually ignoring them, even if it comes out months later. If they release on both first, that's a different story.

PixelJunk 1-6 is currently PC only.

Here is one of the articles about PSP piracy.

Only one Pixeljunk game was on PSP (Monsters), the rest was on PS3.

Yea, we didn't get Pixeljunk Eden or Shooter on PSP because of piracy, but PSP piracy has literally no bearing on Pixeljunk 1-6 PS3.
And it shouldn't have any bearing on bringing them to Vita.

Exactly. Far too soon to tell.

You gotta wonder if there will be other $199 bundles for the Vita on BF. Maybe the AC bundle, or Madden bundle will also be $199. The other good thing about this, is that you're going to see a flood of COD vita games on Ebay for cheap. The same thing happened with Madden, and will most likely happen with AC once the initial demand gets saturated.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the white AC bundle at that price.

I've read that the bundle does not include the physical copy of the game (download code only)... not sure if true though.

People will sell the code on Ebay, if that's the case.
I don't know...seems kinda dumb to include a digital copy with a 4gb card that's just about big enough to hold the COD game.

Anyways, I'd be curious to see how this thing sells at $199. If that price attracts a good number of sales, that should clue Sony in that this is the maximum price people are more or less prepared to pay. With these bundles coming out now, I'm thinking the 'wi-fi' model at $249 is going away at some point. Obviously if you can get a White/Black Vita with a game and card for the same price as just the Black wi-fi model, people will go for the bundle even if they have no interest in the game being offered.

On the flipside, if sales are sluggish even after BF deals you have to wonder if the market simply has no place for the Vita aside from being a niche console with a small offering of 3rd party titles, 'B' team first party support, and PSN mobile. If this system has the capability to fully remote-play PS3 titles, I'd suggest they open that functionality up right now. I'm not sure what they're waiting for. I have a growing backlog of Ps3 games that, with family life, I've simply been unable to put a dent into. Being able to remote play these games on Vita would be a HUGE selling point for me.
I think the AC bundle includes a physical version of the game.

It does, sorry if I didn't make clear I was referring to the COD bundle. From what I've heard though, you don't actually get the proper AC case, but some generic plastic cover. Personally as a collector I hate that....

http://gimmegimmegames.com/2012/10/ps-vita-3g-gets-price-drop-to-179-at-target-comes-with-8gb-memory-card/

Target has already had a sale that is going to be tough to beat... even on Black Friday (3G + 8GB @ $179.99). The Best Buy COD bundle really isn't that different from their previous Vita sales (bundle + $50 gift card).
Yea, I found a Target with that system in stock but they wouldn't give me the price. Right after, the storm hit so I couldn't try again.
The Target link is showing a price of $279.99 when I clicked it just now....
Yeah, it was essentially a one day sale (when they sold out online, the price went back up).

That's what I paid for the AC bundle at futureshop 2 weeks ago. For $200 I have been really pleased so far, and the white just looks nice.
